@dsplodge86 1. If it was a boat you wouldn't have the same problem with the waves. 2. Because of the sickness he was probably unable to orientate himself quickly enough to be able to make it to the open edge of the raft.

Bear obviously didn't realize the foil pouch onboard the raft also has food rations for 4 people for 3 days, 6 litres of water, anti seasickness pill + sick bags, an epirb distress system, A fishing kit, first aid kit, VHF radio, safety knifes, Whistle, Heliograph, Torch, Raft repair kit, thermal blankets, coit and rope.

Ohh and the flare kit he did manage to find which is strangely also inside the foil pack with all the other standard liferaft survival equipment.
