  • omg i love this version actually my friend realated to davy crockett

  • Baur

  • Davy Crockett was found with numerous stab wounds; this is indisputable. He probably died as all the others did, bayoneted by every passing Mexican soldier. Santa Anna ordered that the wounded be finished off. It is doubtful an unscathed Davy was brought to Santa Anna so that the Generalissimo and his lieutenants could have the pleasure of running him thru with swords. But because of Davy's wounds, Pena 's account, however implausible, is not ruled out.

  • Are these the Mellomen? Sounds like a disney recording but not quite the soundtrack.

  • @trolleycoach Yes, those are the Mellowmen, with Thurl Ravenscroft bringing up the bottom. The did quite a few Disney themes during that period, including Zorro.

  • Susana Dickinson saw Crockett's body lying between the chapel and barracks as she left the scene. I guess it comes down to who you want to believe concerning how Crockett was killed.

  • If he had actually seen David Crockett executed at the Alamo, it seems that de la Pena would

have made note of this in his diary. He did not. Therefore, the obvious conclusion is that he

obtained it from another source while writing his history in later years. That source was likely

an incorrectly copied American newspaper article, in which misplaced punctuation changed

the meaning of a reference to Crockett's death. Perhaps the pen truly is mightier than the

    sword?

  • Revisionist historians, of course, point to Jose Enrique de la Pena's diary as conclusive

"proof" that Crockett surrender. There is a major problem with this logic. The lieutenant did not

mention the execution incident in his original diary, the one he actually kept while in the field

with Santa Anna. The execution story only appears in his later history of the war, a manuscript

he prepared from numerous sources - including American newspapers and his own original

    diary.

  • I'm only 15

, norwegian but i remember the song from when i was a kid. Does anyone know from where??????? NOT FROM THE TV SERIES FROM THE 50's!!!

  • @SargeHarkness The movie "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" from 1955

  • Comment removed

  • He wasn't killed at the Alamo, he was taken prisoner after the battle and then executed by the Mexican Army. Get your facts straight. Davy Crockett ftw!

  • @randomlaughable Read more The problem, however, is whether de la Pena actually saw this. His published account, which

was prepared in part from a diary he kept during the campaign, includes not only his own

memories, but a great deal of information from other sources as well. Among the sources he

consulted in writing his history, which was penned years after the campaign, were American

    newspapers of the time.

  • Davy Crockett's tears cure cancer.... too bad he's never cried.... EVER

  • @skierunner Haha, that's what I say. they seem to be a lot alike, there are so many stories about him that are just tall tales.

  • sounds like he's saying Betty, Betty Crocker!

  • remeber it well yes sir my pa used to call our elder brother this

  • The Mellomen were a popular singing quartet active from the late 1940s through the mid-1970s. The group was founded by Thurl Ravenscroft and Max Smith in 1948. They were sometimes credited as The Mellowmen were featured frequently on Disneyland Records. The Mello Men, or The Mellow Men. The Mellomen sang "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh", The Ballad of Davy Crockett and the introduction of Zorro. They performed the elephant's singing voice in Jungle Book.

  • I've been trying to get this information for awhile...thank you for posting this! The short Disney series had a huge impact on me as a child...never had the chance to hunt but did finally become a soldier and shooter! Much appreciated!

  • I think every little boy from the '50's wanted to be Davy Crockett!

  • @Moonwalkinthruheaven Well I was a little girl from the 90s and I thought I was Davy Crockett :). Haha I got it from my dad, instead of him buying me movies like Cinderella he would buy me historical movies like this. I loved every one of them but this was by far my favorite!

  • @x3uhohitzmorganx3 My dad was the same way, only books and movies he approved allowed, and virtually no other entertainment. The guy was a bastard to the day he died but I am grateful for his principles on entertainment :p

  • There is a country rock group that sang the ballad of Davy Crockett and I can not remember the groups name either it was ZZTop or Lynyrd Skynyrd. Does anyone know?

  • @smokingSara The Kentucky Head Hunters sang a version.

  • I wonder why the TV show only lasted 1 year?

  • @WWEChampion16 It only lasted one year because it was a "peace tready" between ABC and Disney. ABC gave Disney millions of dollars to help fund Disneyland along as advertising for the park. The TV show helped ABC ratings. Once the park was completed and the loans paied off the show was yanked but relationships betweent the companies were still good.

  • Fess, I will remember you in my heart!

  • Does anyone know who sings this version?

  • This is the version used by Disney on the sunday night episodes. Probably studio musicans from years ago..

  • The Wellingtons featuring the great singer Thurl Ravenscroft.

  • This version is by the original artists that sang it for the sound track of the television show and movie. They are commonly misidentified on digital music sites as the Wellingtons. They were the Mellomen and featured Thurl Ravenscroft as the bass singer.

  • Oh. Thanks for clearing that up!

  • @bulldog1447 johnny horton
