I have loved this video ever since it first came out... and the reason that I loved it didn't even have anything to do with the fact that she is wearing underwear which certainly made an impression on a boy that was my age back then.
So I totally get the profound appeal of this, but am baffled by it, as I am baffled by all the most beautiful things, and right then, I guess, by the nature of beauty... who would plan to be so roused that you say "grrr, makes me want to f---" whether or not there's anybody around to f---. Most often, for me, there's no such person around--at least not appropriately appealing enough. Still, I love his song. Go on, while I enjoy the music, and regret my involuntary tumescence...
This is one of those songs like Pixies' "Tame" and even Pulp's "Pencil Skirt," and most of PJ's ouvre... Yes, I said ouvre, make way for the pretentious fuck:Man-Size is one of those most rarely beautiful songs that underscores the counterintuition so basic to the aesthetic--I mean, what rational person would predict that they would like a song that makes them so f-cking ineffectually aroused, as I am at each listening by her (PJH's) strange, severe charisma...
