Its a hard song to sing, and Jordin did it Live, and very well... Probably if she was in studio, she would do it even better, don't know! But you can never know how Barbra would manage to sing it live, cause she never had the courage to do it! (as well as Memories, which Barbra never sung live)...

Well there were a few pitchy points, and sometimes shrieky... but goddamn I remember this was probably the boldest, hardest choice of song that entire season.  And I doubt anyone on AI from any season couldve sung it better. Very good considering the difficulty level.

What a freakin' hard song to sing!!! No one will ever be able to nail those notes with the clarity and commitment that Streisand did (save say Celine ), but Jordin did very well!!!! She's a fantastic singer! I could listen to this girl sing all day.

the problem with american idol and any other singing competition is that you will always compare their performance to the original and you shouldn't. just listen to their performance as if you've never heard that song before

But sometimes it's impossible to pretend that you never heard the original and quite difficult not to compare the two versions. This is especially true when an AI performer chooses the signature song of an extremely famous singer like Streisand, Whitney, Mariah, etc.

Yes, the problem is also if they chose an unknown song they will generally loose on the popularity vote. I think as long as they don't butcher the song they should choose the most recognizable song that is vocally challenging, but within their range.

Streisand is the voice of her generation and she was nearly 40 when she sang this....jordin is an 18 year old girl who probably didnt know this song before she rehearsed it for the show. She did a very appealing version of it and put some nice touches on it.
