you know, everyone is talking trash about michael hayes and his opinions, but realistically, he's kind of the voice of reason in the debate. he knows what he's talking about.
Not really. I think JR, Mick and King are more like the voices of reason while Hayes is fighting WWE's corner. I like Hayes but he seems to be kind of hostile towards Eric here.
that's his demeanor in all of the legends of wrestling forums. he won't let anyone make statements and not fully explain themselves or try and sidestep. he was originally in wcw back in the day and obviously with his experience, saw that the wwe was a bit more ethical in how it handled the monday night wars.
The only issue I would have with Michael in this show is when he talked about how horrible it was that Eric was trying to put WWE out of business. But I doubt he or any other longtime WWE employee shed any tears over the WCW talent who weren't picked up by WWE after Vince bought them out.
good point. however!...vince did make an attempt with entire roster to hire them (except those who burned him bad: jeff jarett, etc.) most of them made the choice themselves that they didn't want to go over to wwe and that is their problem. i remember seeing buff bagwell once on wwe and couldn't wait to see what they'd do with him, but he chose not to stay as many of them did. he did try.
also, vince never tried to put wcw out of business with any unethical behavior or in any way. they were around for years and he never took any cheapshots, etc. he believes in healthy competition.
I very much doubt Vince saw WCW as real competition until Eric started going head to head with him on Mondays. To Vince, his sports entertainment vision was superior and WCW was for "rasslin" fans. Eric simply fired the first shot. Just like he doesn't really see TNA and ROH as real threats to WWE's U.S. monopoly, and he's right. It'll be interesting to see how Vince reacts, however, if and when TNA goes live on Mondays, which is their ultimate goal, and actually starts gaining ground on WWE
that may be but again, even in the beginning of the monday wars when wcw began creating a stir and slowly close the gaps with ratings, never once did vince take a cheap shot, mocking or making any reference to wcw until bischoff began giving away raw's results. had biscoff focused solely (and behaved like an adult!) on his product rather than the wwe, things would be different. he even said that himself.
also, bischoff called mcmahon numerous times when wcw was winning the ratings and left messages on mcmahon's voicemail rubbing it in that he was winning and would be putting him out of business. what's the point in that when he wasn't provoked?
Is this on the record somewhere, because I've never heard this before. If this is just one person's say-so, I gotta take it with a grain of salt. One thing I will agree that was absolutely, unforgivably atrocious was "Oklahoma." Some fans feel that anything and everything is fair game in wrestling, but mocking a man's serious medical condition is just pathetic.
ABSOLUTELY! i had a little spat with someone on here about mocking JR's condition for a while because i felt the exact same way...it crossed a line that never should have even been put in the sand. anyhow, vince mcmahon and others behind the scenes stated in random and different documentaries and interviews that biscoff did that to him numerous times during the 83 week streak. in a completely separate and different interview, bischoff was asked about it and he shamefully admitted he had.
Hayes is to much, we can't really get all of the true details of the story bc he keeps interrupting. And of course Brett Heart would have a huge contract at that time.....He Brett Fucking Heart. Had been with the company since the mid or early 80"s, bet vince didn't take a pay cut lol.
are you mental? vince nearly went bankrupt during the monday night wars. i can guarantee you he probably didn't even get a "paycheque" for a while! he was the owner of a business during that time before the company went public...meaning he only received whatever was left over, which for the longest time, was nothing. why else do you think he did the announce table? why else do you think he became one of the main characters?
these michael hayes character is a dick rider!!! he talkin like bishoff is the shit!! he LOST!!! hayes need to get off bischoff balls that lil bitch!!WWF IS 4EVA! BUT THIS WWE SHIT IS GAY!! Michael Hayes needs to learn when to shut the fuck up. He couldn't stop running his mouth that's why he got suspended for those racist comments on Mark Henry. What a prick!!
Since you explained your point with such crystal clarity, allow me to rebut.
The people on these shows are sometimes encouraged by their producers to exaggerate the drama (though not so much that it's obvious because this is a legitimate talk show, not a match.) It's adds to the entertainment so guys and gals like yourself have a villain to hate and keep you watching.
Hayes is the "heel" in this one. You're not supposed to like him. You obviously don't, so he's doing his job. Get it?
Well, I don't Hayes personally so I can't comment on him being himself. I only know what I'm hearing is meant for entertainment so I don't take it too seriously.
You're taking it seriously enough that you think people on the panel have set roles they're playing. It's just a discussion group, like The McLaughlin Group or The View.
micheal hayes would out party the boyz, but get to the point, hayes its not mid south and biscoff not a von erich, the freebird were cool, but this not badstreet, but the birds were not in the monday war, buddy roberts, bam bam gordy, garvin did not make a apprence on either show, could the freebirds make it in the nwo,i dont think so

I am a die hard WWF fan (refuse to say WWE), but are these guys really looking for Eric to apologize for being more successful? Hey, the guy did a great job back in the late 90's. The WWF was getting stale, why is that Eric's fault. They should stop crying and give him credit where it is due.
you are absolutely right. the wwf (I also refuse to say WWE) should thank eric bischoff, because he forced them to create a more edgy product (the attitude era), and when they did the fans started tuning in more to the wwf, and wcw was headed for the toilet, because the whole nwo thing started to get stale, and bischoff and his boys couldn't get the thing turned around. its stupid that these dudes are still bitter.
JR is brilliant. They had the perfect goal: create new stars. Just how many times did they repackage Davey Boy Smith before they realized it was futile.
he had good wrestling ability but he was horrible in promo delivers, but hey... he could have gotten better in the years. But lets note how it was possible to do that when you had the Rock, Jericho, Austin, Undertaker, and HHH?
It's amazing Bischoff gets interrogated for trying to put WWE out of business.
How many wrestling companies did McMahon put out of business when he was nationalizing wrestling with WWF in the 80s? I mean, give me a break. Bischoff should say "yeah, I did try. So what? Your boss has put more people out of work than I ever did"
Not every territory but most. It's exactly what Vince explained on his own DVD: The people who ran those territories weren't used to competition. And why would they be? That was the POINT of territories. But that's why Vince thought he had a shot. He offered to buy out most of them on his cross country tour, they rejected his offers, then he bought their top talent. So their businesses eventually suffocated.
It's not wrong for Vince to have done that but what's wrong with Eric doing the same?
Exactly. The territories weren't used to competition. They had a gentlemen's agreement not to play in each other's playground. One example was World Class. Fritz von Erich could have nationalized since they were a hit all over the country, but he was married to the territory system that was dying. That still angers me since I prefered WCCW back in the day over WWF/E.
TNA Needs to rise to the occasion and take WWE to the limit. WWE has been weak with trying to push Edge and John Cena as top guys but these guys just dont cut it.
I don't quite agree with JR when he says something like "how many times can you repackage the British Bulldog". No offence to JR -- best play-by-play guy in the business -- but British Bulldog never exactly NEEDED to be repackaged. Guys like Shawn Michaels, Triple H et al have never needed it over the years and Davey Boy's talent would've carried him through.
Oh of course I agree. Davey's talent, his charisma, his willingness to put people over, can never be repackaged. Even today, Davey Boy would be a convincing world champion, way more so than Edge, C.M. Punk and (no disrespect intended) Rey Mysterio
wwe needs another big rival to compete with because it raised its game and made wrestling far more entertaining to watch, mcmahon has got to relaxed and rich, he doesn't care about the product anymore just the buck!!
Another point, WWE didn't make Austin a megastar, Austin did. They capitalized on an opportunity that came at the right place at the right time. If it was up to the WWE, Austin would've been forgotten a long time ago as that guy that was the Ringmaster.
Bischoff is right about the NWO making stars out of Hall and Nash. Hypothetically speaking, if they had gone back to the WWF in 1998, they wouldn't be called Razor Ramon or Diesel.
Some of these comments are extremly entertaining for how naive they are. WCW was always a badly run company, it was chaos. However through that some very clever men headed by the best of the bunch made the NWO and did its best to make the best show week to week. However despite that WCW would still be pushing the NWO and the 80's guys to this day had they won, and if people want to live in the past be my guest. WWE is stale because it has to no WCW, no goal. I just hope someone can be that again
Damn, I wish WCW would have won. I actually liked WWF a good bit during the Monday Night War but I think Bischoff would be running a far better promotion today than the shitty WWE.
Cena and the trash they are promoting flatout sucks.
Yeah, I think if WCW had been able to get its backstage shit together [and I mean REALLY together] it could easily have won. Take the Turner organization, add booking that is compelling and logical. Keep an eye toward developing long-term stars, who can work athletic, entertaining matches. Give them full benefits, bonuses for the best match [Shaw did that-very popular with the boys] and input into character [not to interfere with long-term booking]. WCW had the resources to do ALL that....
"McMahon is going to run faster when someone is chasing him". This is a great quote from Foley because we all see what happens when nobody is challenging Vince with the product he's putting out today.
Hayes may be a moron but he makes the best point of this segment though. The real winners of the Monday Night Wars were the fans. If you were actually watching wrestling in 1998 it was unreal, you were flicking your channel every 2 minutes.
Eric's wrong and partly right... Razor and Diesel were so over with everybody before they returned... plus you had main event stars from the Biggest and most important (WWF) that main evented for years before that for many PPVs and hanging out with the WWF Champ Shawn Michaels.
Put Hall and Nash out of WCW and they just went to ECW or something (first tim they left WCW), and if they came back, no way would they have the same impact.
is it just me but unlike alot of the other roundtables this one seems alot more serious and full of tension. hayes really seems to dislike bischoff. but you cant fault eric for doing what he did to make wcw competitive.
As a read on the book "The Death of WCW", the reason of the WCW's sucess (and failure) was the nWo taking over the WCW. At first it was new and fresh, then overtime, it turned predictable and stale. WCW had a good thing going then had to screw it by doing the same good thing...over and over and over!
You don't see WWF shoving DX down our throats because in the WWF you had more like the Austin-McMahon feud, The Undertaker, The Rock, etc. The "attitude" era was a shot in the arm WWF needed.
the reason why that tna wont succeed is because there is no "war" anymore. vince and the wwe dont care about tna, it's just the place where they talent they fired goes. tna now is pretty much getting the same ratings that ecw on tnn would get. i think tna will hold out for a few more years but it wouldn't surprise me if they went downhill within 10 years. 2007 and this year were not very good years for tna
75 thousand? You was offered that less then your original contract? that much Hayes?Fuck me you was lucky i wouldnt have payed you 3.75and thats by the Hour.Bischoff did the right thing cause if you turned up instead of Hall that night on Nitro nobody would have given a fuck and laughed at you.
TNA at the rate they are going will be lucky if they make it to their 10 year aniversary. They're good I look forward to impact every week and at times they are better than WWE STORYWISE then it gets stale and the cycle begins again.
they always skip what was going on when wcw was successful, with the Sting/NwO angle, goldberg's rise, lex luger beating hogan on nitro, the giant developing into a name, DDP's rise and benoit/jericho/guererro getting noticed by the fans.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's a shame. King has made a living calling Bret's parents some ridicilous names and fueding with him when even Cena can wrestle better than King. And Bret did take a paycut A significant one.. 1.5 million dollars a year to stay with WWF king. I wonder if Shawn, or King himself were even offered 3 million dollars then would they have stayed. HELL NO. They would have left like Nash and Hall
in hindsight now, thank god wwe, then wwf didnt go under because given how wcw was starting to come apart in just a matter of 4 years had wwf gone under and then wcw imploded still, the whole business as we know it would had gone under
Yeah but i think Booker T is having alot more say-so with what his Character does though.. I am going along with it too.. It might be interesting to see where it goes.. just as long as he doesnt start demanding people to kiss his feet and crap..

Give them full benefits, bonuses for the best match [Shaw did that-very popular with the boys] and input into character [not to interfere with long-term booking]. WCW had the resources to do ALL that....

Hayes is wasted in this interview!!

"Every monday night was the superbowl."
Best quote ever and that was an absolute fact. Wrestling will -never- be bigger and better than that point in time.
Jinzo9988 3 years ago 5
"McMahon is going to run faster when someone is chasing him". This is a great quote from Foley because we all see what happens when nobody is challenging Vince with the product he's putting out today.
Conner2029 3 years ago 4
I must be getting old but I prefer listening to these guys than watching the current product thats out there.

who cares if hayes is jackass everyone like him are good wreslters but jackasses
darkrazor23 3 years ago
But Hayes wasn't a real great wrestler either. Terry Gordy carried him
Hellfireblogs 3 years ago 2
Hayes sounds effin LOADED!!! lol
htowntx08 3 years ago 2
This episode should have been included as one of the dvd's that was released last week.
wwehurricane1 3 years ago
This is the best 24/7 I've seen yet, thank you for posting.... why doesn't part 2 work anymore??
roylucier 3 years ago
Hayes is one bitter asshole.
ukcat54 3 years ago 5
When Hayes & Flair are on these things they really get on my tits.
SiMags 3 years ago 2
what comes around goes around. Vince did this to all the territories in the 80's. When it happens to wwf they gripe.
spenben 3 years ago 5
hayes is right the wrestling shows were the best bac in 1996-1999 it was the best being a wrestling fan.
version1010 3 years ago 3
Nobody likes Hayes. Take the hint and take him off. He ruins it by talking over everybody.
FartScrap 3 years ago 4
Hayes may be a moron but he makes the best point of this segment though. The real winners of the Monday Night Wars were the fans. If you were actually watching wrestling in 1998 it was unreal, you were flicking your channel every 2 minutes.
shawn13174 3 years ago 2
Hayes is completely snockered.
MeatPantz 3 years ago 3
it truly was the greatest time to be a wrestling fan. clicking back and forth between raw and nitro was awesome.
seandroid 3 years ago 2
Eric's wrong and partly right... Razor and Diesel were so over with everybody before they returned... plus you had main event stars from the Biggest and most important (WWF) that main evented for years before that for many PPVs and hanging out with the WWF Champ Shawn Michaels.
Put Hall and Nash out of WCW and they just went to ECW or something (first tim they left WCW), and if they came back, no way would they have the same impact.
at1212b 3 years ago
is it just me but unlike alot of the other roundtables this one seems alot more serious and full of tension. hayes really seems to dislike bischoff. but you cant fault eric for doing what he did to make wcw competitive.
KingofGeeks101 3 years ago 2
As a read on the book "The Death of WCW", the reason of the WCW's sucess (and failure) was the nWo taking over the WCW. At first it was new and fresh, then overtime, it turned predictable and stale. WCW had a good thing going then had to screw it by doing the same good thing...over and over and over!
You don't see WWF shoving DX down our throats because in the WWF you had more like the Austin-McMahon feud, The Undertaker, The Rock, etc. The "attitude" era was a shot in the arm WWF needed.
JML101582 3 years ago 2
Yup, alot more balanced... this is due to one main reason... Vince!

i literally think hayes is drunk.

I want TNA to Succeed but they have too many issues to really be a contender. IF Ring Of Honor gets a TV deal...it's over for TNA>
michiyoyoshiku 3 years ago
the reason why that tna wont succeed is because there is no "war" anymore. vince and the wwe dont care about tna, it's just the place where they talent they fired goes. tna now is pretty much getting the same ratings that ecw on tnn would get. i think tna will hold out for a few more years but it wouldn't surprise me if they went downhill within 10 years. 2007 and this year were not very good years for tna
0Mike0Banks0 3 years ago
I hope TNA and WWE can go to war against each other
dcp93 3 years ago 2
Never happen. The WWE's budget is way to big and if Vince ever has an inkling that TNA would try to compete with him then he will squash them.
livewire109 3 years ago 3
75 thousand? You was offered that less then your original contract? that much Hayes?Fuck me you was lucky i wouldnt have payed you 3.75and thats by the Hour.Bischoff did the right thing cause if you turned up instead of Hall that night on Nitro nobody would have given a fuck and laughed at you.
suckyamomma30 3 years ago
i belive tht tna in about 5 to 10 years mite be a serious competitor for WWE
Borat108 3 years ago
dude tna will never be competition 4 wwe tna's highest ratings ever are still lower then wwe's lowest ratings ever
pwned369 3 years ago
TNA at the rate they are going will be lucky if they make it to their 10 year aniversary. They're good I look forward to impact every week and at times they are better than WWE STORYWISE then it gets stale and the cycle begins again.
I like TNA but they will never be another WCW
michiyoyoshiku 3 years ago 6
ur 100 percent rite dude
pwned369 3 years ago
they always skip what was going on when wcw was successful, with the Sting/NwO angle, goldberg's rise, lex luger beating hogan on nitro, the giant developing into a name, DDP's rise and benoit/jericho/guererro getting noticed by the fans.
nightwingv1 3 years ago 4
got to love bischoff he's not gonna let p.s run all over him, bring back eric

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It's a shame. HELL NO. They would have left like Nash and Hall
mattthedamon 3 years ago
i have to disagree. i am of the opinion that, because vince made shawn and gave him the oppertunity to be the best that hewould have stayed loyal.
vampirehunterme 3 years ago
in hindsight now, thank god wwe, then wwf didnt go under because given how wcw was starting to come apart in just a matter of 4 years had wwf gone under and then wcw imploded still, the whole business as we know it would had gone under
chriskoob 3 years ago
Getting good, we are now getting to the Montrel Screwjob incident.
Yeah King Booker suxed, TNA is doing something else with Booker T now that I dont really approve of but I'll go along with it.
B44501xRacerEX 3 years ago 3
Yeah but i think Booker T is having alot more say-so with what his Character does though.. I am going along with it too.. It might be interesting to see where it goes.. just as long as he doesnt start demanding people to kiss his feet and crap..

Lol king booker, my least favorite character, I actually liked Booker T but not king booker.
