  • I remember Mom playing this music growing up ... I just remembered the music ... loved it ... years later - I can see these ladies were beautiful and classy ... true American history here.

  • M E R A V I G L I A !

  • The Supremes will be remembered as

the most sophisticated solo group ever existed. I quote this matter before need a producer and writer to a movie about Florence Ballad and the Supremes also Marvin Gaye. The reality about there lives.thanks for sharing.

  • God i bet this was so much fun to film :D

  • The Suprems was the only African-American pop music group ever to survive the British invasion since 1964.

  • haha i did this song for a talent show lol~~~ craziinesss!!!!

  • loooooove this

  • I am replacing my therapist with this. For Real.

  • @GosseBosma hahahahah I cannot be more agreed with u, This song has just kept me hanging on =)

  • the day of my birthday...only, way before.

  • she moves in a funny way

  • Supremes RULE! Luv and miss ya Flo!

  • @Drillin4Oil flo had a boyfriend roger pearson..

  • you can't hurry LAAOVE. never noticed that til few months back

  • Diana was definately a professional. She did not let an earring ruin the show. She actually looked better with the one earring too. You go girl!

  • this song is just timeless! im only 17 but its definatly one of my faves :) Miss Ross is just pure class! i actually didn't notice the earing part - i only realised after that it was missing - that was so well done she didnt miss a beat!

  • is Flo there?

  • @Jelliclecats56 yes she is pause at 0:16 she's the one on the left with the side swoop bob

  • at 1:50 Dianna Ross's earring comes off!

  • Mary Wilson always did it for me.

  • It's amazing trick with the earring! So smart how she handles this little mishap.

  • @Exultedagain Just like an expert, she knew exactly when it was going to fall, caught it, held on to it, then when she bowwed down she through it back, its almsot liek she rehearsed it lol i love it.

  • Diana is beautiful here.

  • I like how her left eye is completely covered by her own hair...bet that was annoying :P

  • @lnichoalds If a whole generation of emos can get used to it, I guess it can't be that bad:P

  • Florence is definitely the prettiest of the 3.

  • @tamoomoo2

    All three girls looked stunning.

  • popular black female celebrities, and i've never heard of there being much fuss overr it. yet so many decades later a black man happens to get elected president and we act like he fought off armed KKK legions to pioneer this concept of equality.

    am i missing something?

seems to me like one way or another there is some bullshit going on.

  • @waldoman7

    Huh?

    What page are YOU on?

  • @TheReturnOfStephen....

WOW.....NOW I REALIZE WHY SHE's MISSING AN EARING

  • fierce.

  • florence was so beautiful.....when ever i watch a clip of the supremes on youtube my eyes immediately go straight to flo

  • Love how beautiful...classy...& sexy Flo was in this vid.....the glory years.

  • what would we call her? a transexual.. she looks like a freaking man.

  • the biggest american group of the 60's!

  • hold up? did she lose an earring? lemme rewind.

  • They looked gorgeous and classy. Makes you long for that era again. Motown did a great job presenting their acts...especially, the Supremes.

  • when i was a kid back in the day, coming up in the 90s my dad use to say that the music in the 60s and 70s was better than r and b at the time. I thought he was crazy. Now that i'm older, mid 30s, I understand exactly what he meant. And HE WAS RIGHT!

  • It's Diana's birthday today! : )

  • all the smiles are phoney! Too bad they weren't smiling behind the scenes

  • RIP..... to my FAVORITE SUPREME- Mrs. Florence Ballard Chapman (1943 - 1976). Shout out to the other supremes Diana Ross and Mary Wilson also. Miss Flo, may you rest in peace. Your life meant A LOT more than you thought it did. Someone won an Oscar for portraying a sequel of your life and that is such an honor that we, your devout fans, wished you could have seen, but at least your children and grandchildren did see that. Thanks to Peter Benjaminson for allowing us to hear your words. RIP FLO

  • @mrsrod07 I second that! Great comment, I've heard some of her solo stuff, I LOVE her voice, very gritty and soulful.

  • Why does diana always look like she doesnt have a neck? Dont get me wrong I Love diana lol!

  • @JordinSparksFan08

i think it's her posture when she sings

and i love Diana too lol!

  • Diana looks like she is anorexic. She always told Florence that she was fat but Flo looked and sounded the best. Motown records really screwed Flo over

  • when i watch this second time i noticed she lost her earing it took me 40 more times just to find out how she caught it

  • Comment removed

  • See she lost it but can't see where it went...!! Fab video!

  • @Roberus65 I have the original, they cut out part of the song and video she actually catches it without looking or missing a beat to the song as it falls off. It's so subtle you barely notice.

  • @Sergeant26 maybe it was fake and she didnt notice.... just sayin

  • look close and you'll see she caught it in her hand! :)

  • Diana's earring falls off at 1:52. She catches it in the crook of her elbow & drops it into her left hand. At 2:35, she tosses it to stage left.

That's how to handle a 'wardrobe malfunction'.:)

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1

    No lie, that was trick!

  • Wow. It's amazing how fast she reacts to catching the earring. You don't even really notice it unless you're really looking for it.

  • @Garotte72 OMG yes, Diana is a freakin' PRO MAN.

  • I'm guessing they were clip on earrings, and they look really heavy, so I'm not surprised they fell off. But you're right, she did a really good job of taking care of it.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 haha nice! she does it fast to, i could barly see it

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 She was in the zone - most poised pop/soul star ever.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 Holy shit that was smooth!

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 I noticed that when I first saw this on the DVD. So smooth and professional. And she didn't even blink. Total perfection!!

  • Florence Ballard was so "deliciously" beautiful, with an angelic voice. Always puzzled me why barry gordy did not showcase flo's talents more, she had both the physical and inner beauty and graced the stage with impeccable grace. RIP FLO you are not dead, you just made yourself....... invisible and your music lives on.

  • Great voices, and hips, but what happened to Diana's earring?

  • really they were amazing.. and diana was and is amazing singer you can just hear it in this soon.. waow

  • Question.....

Mary Wilson was the hot one

Flo Ballard had the best voice

Exactly HOW did Diana Ross rise to the top?

  • @dave4248 ...her voice was the l i g h t e s t out of three...so she was chosen to be lead singer...but yes Mary and Flo were just as talented

  • What does lightest mean? To me it means most apealing to the ears. Why is so scarry to say Diana's voice was the most pleasant to listen to.

  • @swso2000 I never said or implied her voice was not the most pleasant...in fact...saying it was the lightest was almost a way of saying it was the most "pleasant" - but of course that is up to personal preference...I said Diana's voice was the lightest because it was...her tone was light in her lower register while piercingly fragile (in a good way) in her upper...

  • Dianna gave the better blowjobs...Duh!!

  • @goofywilly i guess looking at poor Flo she musy have swallowed a lot of something lol

  • Wow, I love how smooth she was when she just caught her earing without even looking at it. If you don't look you wouldn't notice until you saw her ear without it.

  • LOL michael jackson got his facial jobs to look like diana ross. she's still prettier.

  • i love this song

    ~Val

  • For those of you wondering, the earring drops at either 1:52 or 1:53. I'm not sure.

  • I wish ppl wud get off Dianas back!she had something Florence did not and that is a unique voice.Yes Florence cud blow, but there are millions of singers that can.Diana was a PERFORMER of the rarest kind, and thats why she is known as thee SUPREME, the end

  • fcuk that. flo is working them hips in this video , my my my , Diana is cool, no problem but flo is working tonight.

  • @MJBKfan4ever If all you say is true Diana could have started out as a soloist, and we both know that wouldn't have been possible. Diana is a creation of Berry Gordy and Motown. With the same attention, who knows what Flo could have become or Mary for that matter. Your right; diana is a performer, a star. That is her draw. a unique voice is another way of saying can't sing. HDH knew how to make that unique voice sound like something marketable, that's all.

  • unique is another way of saying original. HDH figured out her tone quality on accident and they turned itinto gold after that. Watch HDH interviews they have much respect for her talent. That voice to motown and black music to another level. We all should respect that

  • Someone who sings out of their nose is not original. Mary Weiss of the Shangri-las was hardly a good singer, but she sold records because Shadow Morton knew how to produce her, same as HDH with Ross. It would be illogical for HDH to say anything that can be construde as negative about Diana; they made a fortune off her. I love Ross, I just purchased my tickets to see her in Atlanta, She's more about being star than being a singer. And she is a superstar, a diva, but not a good singer.

  • @carolinaguy321 The truth is there is no point in argueing about a singers voice. What sounds amazing to me may just sound nasal to you. To each his own. My knee jerk reaction is to defend the voice I love so much, but that's the great thing about art everyone hears or sees it from their own perpective. PEACE.

  • I agree with your sentiment on art. In fact, I recently used the same reasoning to explain visual art to someone who had never been to a museum before. Yes, let's just say we have our own ways of appreciating Miss Ross, and just enjoy what she has to offer each of us.

  • @carolinaguy321 I think she IS a 'great' singer!!No,she isn't in possession of a voice that can do all that 'yodelling' that many singers overindulge in (like say Mariah, who sings 10 notes where ONE would suffice)!!And many times a singer with a very supple voice box 'yodels' so much that the actual melody line from a song gets completely lost, whereas in Diana's case you can hear every word she's singing AND follow the WRITTEN melody line too, which makes her (to me) an awesome vocalist!!

  • @sheltv100

yeaa!! its cool..and the asymetrical haircuts 4 da women like mary j blige wears...cool throwbacks

  • luvv der dresses and earings

  • Wonderful

  • lol, didnt notice that earing-thing till i read the comments, rly amazing

  • The most gorgeous, sexiest, and maybe

most talented singer from Detroit was

the one on the far left, Blondie Ballard.

There's never going to be another.

  • man you aint neva lied, I been watching the video like five times watching them hips...........I aint lying , I sware I aint lying

  • I'm AMAZED at how nonchalantly she caught that earing!

  • very talented. can catch while singing and also see with one eye.

  • This is my very favorite video on YouTube.

  • "did diana loose her earring?"

One earring falls off at 1.52.

  • yeah and she reaches over and catches it! awesome!

  • did diana loose her earring? wow i jus noticed that

  • Maybe David Letterman has it.

  • yeah and she caught it!!! watch closely, awesome!! the show must go on!! lol!

  • The Supremes were at the top of their game with this song; it was their biggest hit. Four weeks at number one! And they all looked SOOOO gorgeous here! Loved Mary's smile, Flo's wiggling hips and Diana's fierce wig! OW! --- But yeah, not too long after this, things started to go downhill for Flo. BG's plan to keep Diana at odds with Mary and Flo to control the sum of the Supremes' parts was in full effect by this time.

  • This is the period when Diana Ross was getting all the spotlight, and they soon became Diana Ross and The Supremes.

The other 2 knew they were becoming redundant when they were just singing 'ooooo baby baby, ooooo baby'. And just got a couple of wiggles and one close-up on camera.

They were all gorgeous. But Ross was being groomed for a solo career.

  • I didn't know it's their song , i always thought it's a Phil Collins song from the 80's , well that's a little of a shock to me to find out it's actually their song.

  • its crazy how some of the styles they wore back then have come back in todays artist like (rihanna etc.) i like it!

  • MrKwEsk91, one style from the 1960's I think is coming back are the style of men's wear. suits with narrow lapells and smaller ties.

  • Florence knew she was going off!!! luvmesum florence

  • I saw this clip about 15 years ago and I was thinking that they looked so strange, what I find is so funny is that you can put that look together today and nobody would look at you funny becasue that is the look once again in 2010 the make up lashes and wigs.

  • hardly

  • Flo's voice was the best but she didnt qet the spot light which is sad but i still love them

  • it must be hard to sing and smile

  • Wow, that was an awesome cover-up... I wouldn't have noticed had no one said anything about it.

    Awesome song.

  • Ms Honey was fierce when she caught that ear ring without batting an eye. Regardless of what she may be or have done, Ross is a Diva and I love her for her star appeal.

  • What princesses and what a sound

  • Diana Ross was the worst-looking and worst singer of the three, but she was the Queen Bee.

Mary and Flo had the best voices and best figures.

  • i TOTALLY agree

  • you are right. not a big supremes fan but this song & a few others i've enjoyed. this was a nice no. i felt the camera stayed too much on d. ross. we've missed flos' & marys' wiggles, smiles, & etc.****

  • Love The Supremes!! What Fun to listen to this Today!! Love Diana's voice and Flair for Fasion. Unstopable!! Was. Wonderful meeting her Back n The Day at Studio 54 NYC!! Truely a Lovely Lady!!! Thankyou Supremes and Diana for Decades of Splendid Music!!...

  • where on earth is her neck!? lol love this song

  • Mary Wilson was the best thing that ever happened to the Supremes. All three were talented and their harmony was unmatched. But for me, I'll take Mary anyday.

  • They killed it here ... get it!

  • i wonder why they never let Florence sing, in my opinion Flo sounds better then diane/or diana

  • Check out Flo's Love Ain't Love. Great song!

  • This is so magical!

  • Great performance, Diana looked Anorexic.

  • Flo and Diana are certainly attractive, but I can't pry my eyes off of Mary Wilson. Elegant Goddess!

  • i can somewhat agree rihanna does sumwhat look like florence

  • it was in this video that I realized how much RnB singer Rihanna resembles Florence Ballard. I hope someone does a movie about Florence Ballards life and give her the notarity she richly diserves.

  • she (the lead singer) lost an earing at 1:50-1:52 watch closley at her right ear lol mwhahahahaha

  • yea! what happened to it? I didn't see it fall or anything.

  • Diana's right earring falls off at 1:52. She catches it in the nook of her elbow, right below her right breast, and immediately drops into her left hand. You can still see it there between 2:05 and 2:25.

At 2:35, in one quick movement, she chucks it across the stage.

That's how you handle a "wardrobe malfunction".:)

  • i see it now. thank u.

i had to watch it again to catch the movements. I laughed at the end, that sure is how to handle a wardrobe malfunction.

  • fav song by them

  • Flo & Mary look great. Diana's wig... not.

  • Great Sound Beautiful girls first division

  • Thanks for this precious live footage of my favorite Supremes song. Too bad it's the Ed Sullivan house band instead of the Funk Brothers underneath.

  • DAMN!!! flo was sexy! gr8 clip of the most famous gospel recording of all time! but check out the unreleased version on the supremes box set limted edition set! will take your breath away!!!!!!

  • Great posting

  • THE BOSS ! Without motown and its artist the music industry would have been dull.

  • Was this in color when this was on tv back in the 60s, just wondering.

  • yes it was. color was just blooming @ that time.

  • flawless,perfection, and sheer beauty!!

  • didnt diana drop an earring and catch it?

  • yes!!!!!

  • She drops it behind her. She does not catch it. Its not in her hand when she ends the song. Want to see the greatest "grab" in rock and roll history??? Nancy Sinatra drops the microphone and catches it at her knees in THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING on the Ed Sullivan show.

  • yes she caught it and threw it off to the side when they started the symphony album medley.

  • wow, beautiful. i had a crush on mary wilson growing up in the 1960's.****

  • @d4seasons she was hot

  • i felt that mary & florence were much prettier than diana. i also wanted to mention that the camera focused too much on diana. it should have been all three on camera mostly. those were cute dance & hip moves. we may have missed a lot. i'm in tears when i see florence.

  • @d4seasons especially in the love child performance on ed sullivan

  • But would Simon give them a thumbs up?

  • Yes, a seamlessly choreographed video filmed in "cutting edge" Technicolor, no less...

  • Technicolor was a special colour process for film, which began to be phased out in the mid-1950s, whereas this is amazing 1966 colour television videotape :D

  • Was 1966 the peak year of their success as "The Supremes?" This mid-60's era on Sullivan seemed to feature the best staging and camera work on them as a complete group rather than just "Diana Ross" with two nondescript back-up singers. Great frames, like the 2-shot at 00:17 of Flo and Mary, and the wide shot at 00:50 of Ross shimmying into center spot, flanked by he other two. Great choreography, great use of tambourines, and great blue sequin halters. All three ladies are delicious.

  • I saw them at the Minnesota State Fair (circa 1967?). They drew a great crowd even though Minnesota was somewhat "homogenized" back then. Great sound! Great talent!

  • u do have to look hard 2 c diana catch that earring lol

  • i enjoyed the ending they worked out for this performance.

  • Love this song, I love the supremes!!! in the 60's my aunts and mom they are Native American, styled there her after there's I see pictures with the hair-do's and they all loved the Supremes backed then...

  • I really wish that VH1 would begin airing the Ed Sullivan & Cher Shows again, as opposed to the "reality" shows currently aired by the channel.

  • i love the spirit, especiallly the the other 2 girls(back up?)

  • @TooFastTooGood

AH! Those two Girls singing are Florence Ballard and Mary WIlson. The Best Supremes!

  • Not only did Diana Ross effortlessly catch her right earring, she also then chucked it across the stage at 2:36, during her initial bow.

    Brilliant execution, as always!:)

    LOL!!

It's really not your place to try to dictate to anyone how they should appreciate anything, thanks.

    You're dismissed.:)

  • I've never seen this performance before. Its brilliant!! You are definitely right there stlyrface. Those girls are wonderful and move well.

  • the first time that ever i saw this performance wres in a betamax cassette on 1977...

    i love it

  • YES!! Did you see Diana catch that earring at 1:44?? Of course not. lol My girl is SUCH a vet. :-) Smooth...
