  • The 70's were the greatest!

  • I was 5 years old, staring at a television set, watching Neil Armstrong take that first step on the moon...and, my friends folks had a radio on that was playing this song. Needless to say, this song will ALWAYS have a very special place in the corners of my memory that'll never fade.

  • only reason to be happy to be old is i remember all the songs back then cuz i was there LOL

  • Classic song.

    I love it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Great Memories of Singing This with My Mom :) Funny all the great non-words....I'm sure I had them all memorized at the time...lol...

  • Oh my god this guy's voice is just unbelievable!!!!! This song will go down in history and Oliver's version is my favorite despite actually seeing Hair on Broadway 100 years ago.

  • this is an ok version of this great song. but for my taste, i go straight to the horse's mouth and listen to the recording on the original broadway cast album of hair -- a much better rendition in my view. (from the "for what it's worth" file....)

  • I played this 45 over and over barely a teen. Such a happy pure song!

  • One person does'nt have starshine in their life : )

  • I've never heard it in this key before.....sounds good!

  • I love this, it has been my morning song to my kids for many years!!

  • Dont know why,but this always brings a smile to my face and a tear to the eyes!

  • ill tell u pure artistc brilliance the songs that are forever great have that in common ....play it again....k

  • Soooooo glad I grew up during this time.

  • @inkdclown You and me both. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

  • @WMJCPA <3 All of us "Old" flower children should get together and form a club. I'm almost 78, and still grooving to JCSS, Hair, and others of that Gem-Era.

  • i wish i could go back to those times.great tune i really miss those days gives me goosebumps

  • and we had flowers in ours heads

  • doesn't music from this era make Lady gaga's bullshit seem that much less worth the attention?

  • Pleasant memories of hitcing a lift to my gal. check out the film "the Dish

  • OMG!!!! I don't believe I found this song here! I used to listen to it at my grandma's house! It was part of my uncle's record collection, and of course, it's in "Hair" but not with Oliver...super!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Takes me back...way back. You could just disappear for the entire day with your buddy on your Schwinn, or hike anywhere and everywhere. You would pack a lunch wrapped in wax paper and drink from a Thermos full of Tang, Zarex, Funny Face, or just plain old water (you didn't 'buy' water back then.). If you had a few cents, you could go buy a Coke or a Fanta. Damn...what a beautiful time period to be young enough to not really have adult worries yet....

  • EPIC! Thank you!

    Cindy/Columbus,Ohio

  • "Good morning sunshine, the earth says hello" this was one of Johnny Depp's first lines in the new "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Good movie.

  • Okay, for all you bent dicks just trolling through and dissing lyrics- it's about hearing and enjoying the music (melody, etc) and reminiscing- some music was not written for its lyrical value. Jesus.

  • from Hair wasn't it ?

  • Is it this a re-recording?? I fear it is.

  • Certain music evokes strong memories, this is one of my favorites. It reeks of innocence and love and magic, those who don't appreciate the nonsense syllables will never get the real beauty of this song. Do you criticize babies for their nonsense sounds? Not everything has to exhibit meaning to BE meaningful. I love the sound of a babbling brook, I don't criticize the brook for saying nonsense... it has its own sense. The fault is in you not the song.

  • excelente musica, que nos transporta para o passado.

  • THAT WAS ..WHAT WE NEED... SO NOW

  • RUDJE 3O TENIA AÑOS SIN ESCUCHAR ESTA CANCION ES MAS SIEMPRE CREI QUE LA CANTABA SCOOT MCKENZIE GRACIAS POR COMPARTIRLA ES UNA CANCION PRECIOSA

  • and Earth was cared for, and the stars* shone on us, and love was the word, and we said "Make love, not war", and we were happier: we were young and immortal, and hippies were to change the world...

  • and Earth was cared for, and the satrs shone on us, and love was the word, and we said "Make love, not war", and we were happier: we were young and immortal, and hippies were to change the world...

  • linda... muito linda.

    uma canção maravilhosa.

impossivel ñ ouvir e não se apaixonar por ela.

    obrigado por tão bela melodia.

  • Godawful song

  • @bluespiral58 Not a musical lover I take it.

  • I crank this to up to "11".... when I'm not listening to death metal.

  • heh, this song is from the musical Hair, blame them for the lyrics, not oliver ;)

  • Brings me back to the time when there was not so much goodbye and farewell , and we all tought we ever stay young .

    Beautifull song .

  • Rediscovered this song after far too long. Yippee, I can live again!

  • I remember hearing this song back in 70 and 71. Beautiful song, i love it.

  • Worst lyrics ever.

    Gliddy glub gloopy

    Nibby nabby noopy

    La la la lo lo

    Sabba sibby sabba

    Nooby abba nabba

    Le le lo lo

    Tooby ooby walla

    Nooby abba naba

what the FUCK is that horseshit, too wasted to write real lyrics.

  • @xnightofragex Are you just going around to all the videos for this song, putting it down? You shouldn't be wasting your time doing that. Plenty of recent songs sound like the artist was wasted when writing. Many people have HAPPY memories with this song, they don't need you messing up that experience. Thank you.

  • @Beatles7373 Giddy Glub gloopy come on that's like he didn't even try, the rest of the song isn't that awful, but that part ruins it.

  • @xnightofragex maybe...what of it? wheres YOUR HIT SONG????????

  • @xnightofragex Thumbs up for you my friend, for taking the time to type out those nonsense syllables. I for one appreciated it, as I chuckled right along with you. Hey, these lyrics arent so bad... have you heard some of today's latest rap songs? LMFAO

  • HEARD THIS SONG IN VIETNAM

  • @JAYDOBBS1 Thank YOU.

  • let there be Peace

  • linda essa musika, é dos anos 70. me responde quem souber.

  • This song never leaves my i phone, i change my play list ever so often but this song is a constant.

  • great version, but this isn't the single version, that was on am radio.....i think....this is maybe the alternate album track, or a different vocal mix, Oliver is great....

  • We had to sing this gem in music class back in the 70's. What a mess we made of it. It was still fun.

  • Best version for me, but not the original, which was from the musical 'Hair'.

In a similar vein, Duncan Browne's 'Journey' is lovely

  • One of the immortal recordings of song in America.

  • May of 1969,i watched my dad take off in a jet plane for 3 weeks to join his fellow world war II buddies on a trip to europe..I can still remember like it was yesterday driving away from the airport that i was going to miss him something awful and this song was on the radio of our new 1969 amc Rebel.Man was i ever some glad to see him come home.

  • Why is it, despite never having lived in those days, do I miss the times when music was good like this?

Ah, the curse of being born in the wrong decade.

  • @MeXLuffy You miss it because you have good taste and because you sense the magic that was in the air at that time. I was in my mid teens and sometimes I can almost touch it again.. but I can't quite get there. I do know that it was very, very special time to be alive; the good (this music) and the bad (Viet Nam). But don't forget that you are alive in another special time. These days are magic too.

  • @x1307x ,WOW...some one that knows how it really is,I almost can as well, scarey 'cause I'd really go back if I could.

  • @MeXLuffy I would like to appeal to god for that mistake !

  • @MeXLuffy You should have been born in 1880s or 1890s so you could have fought in WW1!

  • @zipsrule WWII should never have happened. The West committed suicide. TOTALLY unnecessary. Don't believe the lies.

  • @ThusSpakeDenise But I wes refering to WWI.

  • @zipsrule I didn't read your comment closey enough - but my answer still stands. We never would have had WWII without the insanity of WWI.

  • This is a magical song, so sweet and sincere. I especially love all the little percussive sounds in the background - genius!

  • 12 yeras old and on my way to the baseball park with my friends very early on a weekend as we did every weekend riding our bikes. Had the "transister radio" on and listening to music like this to begin our day. 40 years later.... still can picture EVERY minute.

  • This my all tine favorite song takes me back to a magical time!! Still makes me get goosebumps...

  • I'm quite shocked a white man sang this. I always had him down as being BLACK.

  • Rediscovered this gem whilst watching "The Simpsons," as Homer pops some illicit subtance; but of course the song transcends any drug-related matter.

  • @BigJiggety In another episode, he sees Mr. Burns and believes he is a space alien. The town gets involved as do Mulder and Scully from X-Files and Leonard Nimoy (Spock). The town sings this at the end.

  • The swedish singer Björn Skifs (Hooked on afeeling in top of Billboard 1974) made a swedish versio0n of this, in he name of "God morgon stjärnljus". It was a real good version and i really want to hear it again. Alebeit i like this origial very much. This is the real break between 60ths and 70ths.

  • Haven't heard this song in a long time, really warmed my heart today...

  • Haven't heard in a long time, warmed my heart today.

  • I was in hight school, my glorious days

  • A very nice song!

  • I was only 4-5 years old, but mom used to sing this to me when it came on Sesame Street, back when SS was only on in New York! I sooo remember this on the TV and mom dancing around the apartment singing it.

  • Reminds me of my gloriously miss-spent youth! Believe me, it is worth remembering! LOL And it had a heck of a sound track!! Thank you so much for posting!

  • Oh i love this so much!!!!

  • Ufffffff!!!!!! que recuerdos tan buenos.....

  • I watched the late, great "Oliver" William (Billy) Swofford perform this in a small club in Chapel Hill, NC in the late 60's. This piece and "Jean" were great tunes in their day, just like NOW .... RIP, Billy ....

  • Great Song but he sounded Just like John Denver and i wonder why he dropped out from spotlight of fame i guese we will never know! I remebered this song Was on The Brady Bunch movie some year ago!

  • Me encanta ! Qué recuerdos me evoca esta canción!

  • heh?

  • This such a beautiful song! I pity that the lyricist couldn't have come with something better than a spate of glossolalia that substitutes for what could have been a wonderful chorus

  • saw him perform at my college in 1982, great talent and friendly

  • I just can't understand why Oliver didn't become one of the superstars of the 60s and 70s; he had talent, and he had charisma - he had a poignant quality.

He will remembered, though, by his fans, of which I am one.

  • is he dead?

  • I heard he died about a decade ago at the age of 55 of cancer.

  • GREAT! tnx!

  • Good evening! This is one of my favorite songs! Grettings from Mexico!

  • This version is the best sounding recording of any I have heard!

  • This version is different fromt the stereo Lp mix--is it the mono single mix? I can hear some differences, like the fact that it's a different vocal and there isn't any echo or multitracking on the vocal track.

  • kissed my wife to this song in 1969-1970, still wondering !!!

  • Aww that's sweet. I love this song!!!

  • I didn't realize how much I liked this song. Very pretty

  • The earth says hello!!!

  • LOVED THIS WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.

FROM THE MUSICAL "HAIR"--libretto sucked but the MUSIC was GREAT! I never realized HOW great until I look at it in Retrospect.

  • precious golden oldie, beautiful melody and pleasant memories, nice
