I would rather not buy Sarah Palin's book in order to prove to myself that she is a liar.

The cost of wind power per kilowatt hour is actually slightly less than that for coal, about 4 cents. The real cost of coal power is offset by government subsidies. Why not subsidize sustainable sources of power instead? Fossil fuel dependence also has the unquantified but very real cost to the American public in the form of increased prevalence of drought, hurricanes and erratic weather.

Although Alaska is in a position to benefit from oil dependence and global warming, most Americans will suffer if we do not seriously start to transition into renewable and sustainable sources of power. Solar will soon reach efficiency to rival the cost of coal and biofuels from non-food sources (like algae) are making huge strides. The problem is not that sustainable energy is too expensive, but that the political will is lacking to give it a jump-start.
