This may be the greatest thing I have ever seen. I had tears in my eyes, it was so wonderful. There's just ON in this performance, GOING OFF, ROCKIN'!! Just, wow. Thanks a million! :)
I know jimmy and robert are fucking brilliant musicians and performers but you have to give sooo much fucking credit to one of the best hard rock/metal rythem sections ever! john and john (lol just realised there both called john)
It's funny how Jimmy starts humping his guitar around 3 minutes into the video, because in that documentary called "it might get loud", he described the guitar as being like a woman. XD
In Seattle, I did not see Zeppelin in 68 when they were an opening act for Vanilla Fudge, but I had a girl friend who did, and she said they were terrible.
I saw Zeppelin in 69 at the Aqua Theater in Seattle, and they were great. They had no radio play, but those who owned the album wanted to see them. Lots of bikers there.
Then Zeppelin got a hit on the radio, "Good times bad times".
They have been popular ever since.
Later I saw them again, once in the Arena and once at the Colosseum.
5:07 I'm almost positive that's a still photo somewhere, it looks EXACTLY like one ive seen tons of times, if so, then this performance must have been in colour somewhere.
@ar15xm15e2s haha ur the one arguing against an opinion that im sure everyone watching this video would agree with, and when did i say im "einstein of music"? lol i just gave an opinion and you started to argue against it for no reason, yea and say im not mature then come back with that...haha
@ar15xm15e2s how can i tell your being sarcastic overe a text?? lol and i said people watching THIS video would agree, cuz its a zeppelin video and the people watching will most likely be fans therefor supporting my claim that john bonham is the greatest, and in this vid hes lyk 21 and look at what he can do, he was taken from this world 2 early and at that age would still beat peart, JB was a beast, thats what he's known for, and im sure every drummer would agree with that
@ar15xm15e2s see that's why your whole argument started on this vid. Noseha1r made a comment and then you came out of nowhere, challenged him, than called him a fucking retard. That's just not even called for. Why even go out of your way to do something like that on a Zep video? It's immature as hell. And Bonham has been consistantly ranked the best drummer ever by dozens of critics, magazines, polls, and drummers alike.
@demravager yea i think we fucking settled it. what do you do all day? just sit on your ass and read comments. also how are u calling me immature for doing the same thing ur doing right now?
@demravager wtf? dude its no big deal.. just my opinion. and i was just kidding in the first place. I really dont care who els anyone likes, they can like who they please. i just wanted to throw in someone who i think is great. hes not bitching about it so idk why u are
@ar15xm15e2s Yeah yeah, I get what you're saying. Neil Pert is great, but Bonham is the Beast. I mean seriously though, you should know how Led Zeppelin fans get. There's no quarter when it comes to defending how good the band is, and it's particular members.
and you have to remember he was just a studio musician before zeppelin, probably not used to the whole live thing.. but he still is in my top ten bass players..
I only realized right near the end that it was Dazed and Confused. LOLOLOL I havnt listened to the first album for ages. I forgot there was a massive breakdown in that song HA. FUCKEN ZEPPELIN RULE for ever. BEST ROCK BAND EVER!!!! PERIOD.
with the passing of Les Paul, I feel that other iconic figures will soon pass too. not to be duplicated....ever again. you're watching THE golden age. so much of what came after iconic bands like Zeppelin were contrived, cookie-cutter, caricatures
maybe they've moved on from music... there is more to life than entertaining people... the world is evolving including the genius that exists in the human form... it (MUSIC) payed it's part, now something else is calling them.
teens back then did not rock the fuck out...! it was unheard of.. people watched and listened to the shows, not just zep.. but all gigs... like i say it was a turning point for social gatherings..
cool. thanks!! i have yet to hear a snare with that much character. i used to think it all had to do with eq when mixing was done in the studio but, i think you're right about the touch that he had when he played. his ghost notes sounded so full and rich. what do you think? do you think he was influenced by Elvin Jones? in some of his licks i hear parts of Elvin Jones' solos. I guess that would explain the swing feel that Bonham played with.
This clip is obviously in black and white but the official 2003 DVD release of it is in color. Was this clip "colorized" for the DVD? Does anyone know? Just curious.
typical for the tv show crowd, when u see who else was on the show (and indeed the radio and the gigs etc at that time, this was a turning point for musical history!
If you meant the audience was dead in their seats, i was thinking the same thing. Just a few short months / years later they'd be screaming with excitement.
@lpycb42 Its always funny watching The Zepp and The Experience perform during the early days(60's-early 70's), cause the crowd are always looking freaked out...LOL
Does anyone know where this is? or perhaps the date of the show... I think it's the July 29 1969 show with vanilla fudge at the Kinsmen field house...???
LOL, Led Zeppelin is the best band ever and everything, but imagine someone who has never heard of zeppelin, who watches this video. I mean just look at plant
man if I would have been in that audience I wouldn't be able to force myself not to go crazy during this! Must be freaking robots sitting there. But Tv-shows are often pretty lame from the audiences' side.
I don't think the audience even knew what to make of this kind of music in early 69'. Back then they would open up for bands like Vannilla Fudge, and Iron Butterfly, and just blow their clumsy asses right off the stage!
Yeah remember this was 1969 heavy metal wasn't even created yet. So there was no such thing as heavy metal fans at the time or mosh pits or anything like that. That culture of hard rock fans wasn't around until the 70's. These people probably thought they were going to see the Monkees or some shit.
Zeppelin was way ahead of their time with the type of hard driving, kick ass, rock n roll that they played. The type of music that Black Sabbath put out in 1970 totally blows me away also. I mean, where did that stuff come from? Other than the lyrics that Jim Morrison wrote for songs like "The End", 1967, to my knowledge, that type of music didn't even exist. Does' anyone know where Sabbath got their dark roots?
They felt that the early blues rock that they played need something else. It was that music needed a horror genre like movies. This became heavy metal.
Agree entriely with your sentiment...but don't forget Deep Purple! Together these 3 trailblazers blew apart popular music and set in motion all the Hard Rock and Metal that has come since. Respect...
they all worked in a factory. the noises they heard there day in day out inspired them to make like sounding music. the rough metal sound is also a consequence of guitarist Tony Iommi's accident on the last day at work in the factory. he cut off some of his finger tips and had to "loosen" up the strings cause he couldn't press them that hard anymore. all of that resulted in the black sabbath metal sound.
Thanks! It's funny, I'm 40 yrs old, and have heard all of this good music all of my life, and I am still amazed at the raw talent of groups like Zep & Sabbath. Especially how they just kicked ass right from the get go. I also never realized how talented guys like Joe Cocker, and Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull were, and the great stuff that they brought to the scene, until utube
I think ozzy and co thought if people go to see films that scare them, why not make scarey music and thus, Black Sabbath was born. Plus they liked heavy blues
think I was born too late !
