Speaking from a technical sense here,...I have but one question. Okay, what is really the purpose of switching the Leslie from fast to slow at certain points in the song? The organist at my church does not do that,...she leaves the Leslie on fast at all times.
Thank you dera sister for doing this and putting this on U-Tube you have made me very happy here in Ireland. See you in Heaven and I can't wait to see what you will come up with there.
Great. You did a wonderful job. I think your footwork is suberb. Reminds me of the revivals i used to play in tent eetings using a Hammond with one or two Leslies. Super. PTL.
Is that a bass guitar playing along with her, or is she tapping the bass notes with the foot pedals. I was going to say, if she's hitting those notes with her foot pedals, thats mighty impressive! Thanks for posting this!

I have no idea what the problem is with those other retarded commenters who can't stop talking about Jesus or whatever, but this is well-played and you got great sound out of that organ.
Your music is soooooooooooo inspiring. Love that music and the good ol' Hammond organ that you play. Excellent, keep up the good work, and organ playing.
has this organ been modified?? this could be a time when my musical ear stinks, but it almost sounds like the motor is being stopped, rather than the leslie put on slow mode
@adam62385 Actually, most organs don't have a 'slow' setting. The leslie is either not spinning or spinning fast. The 'slow' setting wasn't added until later productions of the hammond. Nowadays most organs have all three, but there is some hard-wiring involved in making that setting available, which organists today take for granted.

I have an A100 that's sounds awesome just like yours....had a B3 for years but wanted to try an A100; love to year ya play; keep it up and give us more vids!!
I have a 52 yo Hammond C3 with JR20 speaker + Leslie 300 which came with both hand switch and foot switch. Not wishing to put holes in the organ, I velcroed the foot switch to the top of the volume pedal and acuate it with my toe to change the rotating speed. Note how distracting it is to see an organist slap the hand switch with resulting "snap" every time that happens. My foot switch is absolutely silent and does not require me to move my hand from the keyboard and most others do. John
Jen: you get as much out of the A-100 as I have ever heard but I would give anything to hear you behind the wheel of the greatest organ of all time . The GREAT OLD B-3. The A and the M have same tone generator as the B and any Hammond is better than the rest. They are still making the B-3 on custom orders and if God ever blesses me with about $20,000.oo You will have one! ! Your music takes me back to where I came from so thanks for keeping pentecost alive and well in my heart ! !
The A-100 IS exactly like the B3, accept it has built in speakers and reverb. Which is more then a B3. You can take the keyboards, amp, etc. from an A-100 and it will fit perfectly into a B3 cabinet. Just no speakers. Anyway, Jen sounds great.

As for the A-100 .. well, nowadays the best "B-3" you will find on the market is an A-100, as they have generally lead a quiet life in somebody's living room, and have not had nearly as much wear as the B-3s and C-3s (which are generally used and abused on stage or in churches)
I agree with you because my church has a C3 and we've had that organ since our church was first built in 1971. But it still sound wonderful. There's nothing like the sound of those old tonewheel hammond organs!!!
Love your style. I'm a piano player and began playing organ at church out of necessity. I've just learned on my own. I would like to see some instruction on draw bars and sounds. I think what I'm playing now is a Hammond RT3 and it's intimidating. Is that something you could help us novices with?
Amazing. I strive to have this style when I play... one of my favorite hymns and one of my favorite songs to play with the worship team. You've inspired me.
I am from the old Pentecostal times, I was raised with these amazing songs, nothing today csn compair to them, they draw you into worshipping our Lord and Savior

Read a comment that you knew Don Whaley--I knew him well. I am in Asheville, NC and yes there is only ONE organ--the Hammond. Keep playing and post more songs from the Red back book
I grew in a Cristian church and that's one of my favorite songs of all times;never gets old and sounds great especially on the organ.Great job playing the organ. You seem to have a mellow sense of playing style which is very rare these days.God bless you and keep playing away.
i really love your song and the way you play that hammond organ i must have watched it over 35 times or better you must be pentecostal or apostolic i can tell your saved and holy, from Elder:Leonard L.Washington,Sr. Cincinnati,oh-
Remember children Jesus does not have a skin pigment, thank you! We love the Lord just the way the Lord loves us! This sound kind of makes we want to shout HALLELUJAH...if I can spell it. Say Amen somebody!
Always been around Baptists with no beat. The bass is just for harmonics/chords right? :+} So thats how I've learned to play anyway. I play mostly by ear , I don't read music all that well. Love It keep it up!!!
She's good. Just needs to loosen up a bit. You don't need to read music. Listen to others play the Hammond but not crazy self-motivated stuff, just people who play unto the Lord. This instrument itself will inspire you.
I know what you mean and I've been to plenty of black churches being black and all and for a white girl she does sound rather "churchy" she had to have grown up in black church to learn that style because it certainly isn't taught formally.
Nah. This style was once very common in white holiness churches throughout the south. They probably learned it from chruches in the north who were integrated or fellowshipped with black holiness churches. Really! And besides, this organ just makes you play that way.
I do love you technique. You're in the key of F correct? Hard to tell over computer speakers. You think you could do something in C? Believe it or not I have a hard time with that key. If I'm and B and we need to do a key change, I'll jump over C to C#
i am a baptist church organist.. not to sound funny... BUT... She sounds like she belongs in a African American Baptist Church.... plays better then most African american musicians I know
Thanks for sharing....this is the way I'd like to hear all organ music in church and how I'm sure Heaven will resound. Keep up the good work. Please share the Hammond registrations and make more videos and recordings, but for sale. Keep up the good work and God bless.
It seems like in a lot of your posts that you are down on the Holiness faith. I was in the Holiness faith for several years. God gives us each convictions that are personal. Just because a particular denomination believes certin ways does not mean others may not have the same convictions. I personally don't see why you have to wear alot of make up. Who are you trying to impress - God? He sees us how we really are - He sees the heart.
I never played organ so I wonder what is the left hand doing when always reaching over and hitting that "switch"?? Love the playing... I've always loved Hammond organs. So this is an A-100 not a B-3, which I guess is the only Hammond I am familiar with. LOVE IT, KEEP PLAYING, THE LORD IS SMILING IN YOUR FINGERS.
Yes as quoted above the "switch" controls howfast the tremolo is moving in the leslie. Certain Organs do not have this switch. When players play on such they usally use the left hand to play a simple bass line on the uper row of keys.
You are fabulous! You take me right back to the South Henderson Church of God and Brother Ralph Day's great organ playing! Thanks so much for sharing.

I know what you mean and I've been to plenty of black churches being black and all and for a white girl she does sound rather "churchy" she had to have grown up in black church to learn that style because it certainly isn't taught formally.
manb4war 4 years ago 3

I love this! I keep playing it over and over so I can sing with it. You're in my key :-)

Thanks for sharing....this is the way I'd like to hear all organ music in church and how I'm sure Heaven will resound. Keep up the good work. Please share the Hammond registrations and make more videos and recordings, but for sale. Keep up the good work and God bless.

Thanks for posting this video. My grandmother was an organist and played very much like this lady. This video reminds me of her.

I like it! Give us more of this stuff, please! Could you also play "down by the riverside" in that style? (I know, I am too demanding ;-) )
Greetings from good old Europe!

Great sound, can you tell me the stop settings. Do you have any more videos, or tapes of you playing. I have two H100 types, with Leslie.

That's not a brother...they don't let their women wear makeup in the holiness church.

What does holiness have to do with her playing?

I never played organ so I wonder what is the left hand doing when always reaching over and hitting that "switch"?? Love the playing... I've always loved Hammond organs. So this is an A-100 not a B-3, which I guess is the only Hammond I am familiar with. LOVE IT, KEEP PLAYING, THE LORD IS SMILING IN YOUR FINGERS.
Yaco38 4 years ago
that switch adjusts the rate of tremolo in the organ sound.
StevenGSR 4 years ago
Yes as quoted above the "switch" controls howfast the tremolo is moving in the leslie. Certain Organs do not have this switch. When players play on such they usally use the left hand to play a simple bass line on the uper row of keys.

You are fabulous! You take me right back to the South Henderson Church of God and Brother Ralph Day's great organ playing! Thanks so much for sharing.
