  • god bless luke i'll have a whiskey for ye brother!!!! sydney australia

  • Luke Kelly & Thin Lizzy represent Irish music. Fuck those sad attempts of beatin' these lads.

  • @slapshot37GNR While this is good. Metallica's version is better. Suck it. Nuff said my nigga.

  • @MrCrucifyMe Yeah, riiiiight...whatever floats ye'r boat.

  • How does he not mute a fiddle with a beard like that?

    Happy St. Paddy's Day!

  • awesome !! Luke your voice will live forever !!

  • 1:15 anyone notice how loose Ronnie's strings are?

  • @BoxingMadLad It may have something to do with how he strummed. A personal preference--or an aging set of strings (or loose or old tuners).

  • @BoxingMadLad Now that you mention, his strings ARE loose. I wonder if they were tuned down a bit.

  • luke and the dubs at full pelter, cant get any better, period.

  • The greatest artists in any genre of art made their craft look so effortless, that is part of their genius. Look how easy Luke made something that cannot be even be close to be replicated look, in every single song that he ever recorded. That is the mark of a true and pure artist.

  • Some men live forever no matter how much time they spend here.

  • the classic lineup of the dubliners. this is how this song is meant to be song.

  • only he could sing with that much passion

    nobody can better him

  • the greatest version of this song ever

  • God almighty I love that sound of Luke's foot hitting the stage. King of kings the man was.

  • i too, Luke O Kelly, take delight in the juices of the barley.. thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • Agreed, The Dubs were great, but Luke was/is very very rare.

  • Some songs sound better with the Dubliners and some sound better with just luke Kelly It's just how it is.

  • Wouldn be the same without Luke tho!!

  • its dubliners-whiskey in the jar, not jus luke kelly. jus cuz he sings it dusnt mean its all him for fuck sake, der all legends and dey shud all get praise!

  • nobody is debating luke as a singer but without the background music this wouldnt be half as good

  • Best version i have heard. The passion is unreal.

  • FAJNE :)

  • Any other version of this song, to quote Wilde is like eating cold mutton. Luke Kelly owns this song.

  • Is Right :)

  • He owned every single song he did. He was that good!

  • Amen to that. It makes me feel a little bit better when I sing, because I can say, "I'm no Luke Kelly but neither is anyone else."

  • G DAY LUKE, GREAT SONG AND YOU AND YOUR GROUP DO IT WELL,I LOVE THIS KIND OF MUSIC AND HAVE MANY OF YOUR CDs I WOULD LOVE TO COLLECT ALL YOUR LIVE VIDEOS. LOVE AND PEACE TO YOU ALL Roger Valentine

  • This is the very best singer ,i could listen all day.Luke Kelly should be considered one of Ireland,s National treasures.Heavens gain.

  • Metallica may have modernized this song to a heavy metal version but the Dubliners and Luke Kelly's is the best I ever heard.

  • I usually listen to Classic Rock and Metal so I listened to Metallica's and Thin lizzy's version first. This is a very tight, well done and moving song that is by a large margin the best out there. I now have been listening/saving videos from The Dubliners the Dublin City Ramblers and others--I'm hooked.

  • @Barrie562 Metallica stole it from Thin Lizzy

  • @stragin its depressing isn't it? a band like metallica covers it, and makes no clear reference that theirs is a cover of thin lizzy...

  • @Barrie562 Thin Lizzy was about the same. Sure, Metallica will always have that "metal up your ass" image, but they're no less passionate performers. I don't mean to imply that you stated they weren't, but Luke Kelly is my favorite, too. And, I think The Pogues did it, too.

  • @zackepple I like this song no matter who sings it, and I'll have my own version up soon

  • @Barrie562 Cool.

  • Cool video

    I love this song

  • i'm not agree, this is the perfect version.

  • Thanks for posting this video. A first-class act in top form, at the top of their game. Luke is sorely missed.

  • they left a verse out.. why??

  • great

is brea liom luke kelly agus an dubliners

  • can't get enough of this song, and the dubliners for that matter! great folk music

  • maybe the best vouce ever. the great luke kelly rip

  • Deffo the best voice ever russel :)

  • hail hail

  • There are some bands who with twelve tracks, sound nowhere near as good as this.

  • not a great recording, but despite that they still sound amazing, especially luke.

  • Brilliant singing by Luke.....the Band was awesome as well!!!

  • i have to get me a banjo :)

  • They're amazing instruments

  • Love the flute

  • whistle*

  • lol ya nuts!

  • Oh man! The voice, cant say no more....The man IS IRELAND!

  • Question: what's the nature and origin of the phrase "whack for me daddy"? ;->

  • I'm sure 'whack' meant tobacco or something in them days. I could be wrong though - only what I got told!

  • It's actually what one might think, nonsense. This style of singing is common in Irish singing. If you listen to songs like Finnegan's Wake and the Spanish Lady you can here it along with a lot of others.

  • Dead right it's nonsense, people nowadays just presume words from many Dubliners songs, but courtin' means going out with and is still used in certain parts of Dublin today!

  • i love luke singing this song. this is the best verion. i remember the seeing it on the david frost show. i think it was 1968.

  • fucking awsome! great!

  • lol no chance !!!

  • no,

  • My favorite Dubs video. Kelly sitting bolt upright and proud, Drew's doing the bass and the rest looking and playing so cool. Thank you.

  • Savage Song. lol Wish I had some of these but at least

we can Trust you to upload them. Thanks again Kelly
