I usually listen to Classic Rock and Metal so I listened to Metallica's and Thin lizzy's version first. This is a very tight,well done and moving song that is by a large margin the best out there. I now have been listening/saving videos from The Dubliners the Dublin City Ramblers and others--I'm hooked.

It's actually what one might think, nonsense. This style of singing is common in Irish singing. If you listen to songs like Finnegan's Wake and the Spanish Lady you can here it along with a lot of others.
