I'm a Canadian too (Born in America)! I've always loved Weird Al's sense of humor. I'm not offended in any way by this song. I think it's fucking funny as hell. Hockey is without question a popular sport here. It's everywhere. As far as how people talk here Canada has a lot of American but still retains it's British and French roots (Zed, about/aboot etc.). It's a great land to live on and i'm proud to walk on it!
