From what I understand the Palestinian objection to a "Jewish state" stems from the non-Jewish >%20 Palestinian population living as Israel which would be further disenfranchised by framing the issue in this way. Recognizing a secular state of Israel would seem a wiser course of action and likewise for a secular state of Palestine.
