i usually get air for my tires at shell and have tested their guage against my own guage and they are consitently correct, no difference. i'm sure to test with my own guage at any gas station where i get air now because of this vid
As soon as someone drops an air gauge, its immediately out of calibration. Now imagine doing that a few thousand times - you're lucky its not more than five pounds off. Nor do gas stations make the majority of their money through the selling of gasoline - its all about that little mini mart where profitability comes from. There's a reason you dont see gas station owners driving bentleys.
The gas station near my house is the same way. Im preaty sure that it takes more gas to move a car with flat tires than ones at the correct pressure. It's all about making money.
It's for this verry reason that we don't use fuel alternatives even though there are countless numbers of efficient combustable liquids. People who complain about gas prices are told that its the global economy in disary, but who detemines the prices? Is it the world, or is it our country? Their greed determines what we pay and we're forced to play along. Welcome to America, Land of the Fearfull, Home of the Uninformed, IN CASH WE TRUST.
Might just simply be that this particular gas station's pressure gauge is faulty. Have you told them? Test more gas stations, and see if you get the same results.
One more thing. How do you know for sure that your own gauge is showing the true pressure?
I think I'm going to get a digital gauge (or two for redundancy) and test more stations, yeah. I just hope I don't have to buy something at all of them to use the air.
It's just a guess, but I suspect gas stations probably do that so that customers will spend more money on gas, making a bigger profit for the gas stations. Doesn't make it fair, but I suspect that some if not most gas stations don't like to make gas really cheap for their customers.

If the tires aren't inflated enough you waste more gas.
Why?-because there is more drag when you ride on tires that are deflated-flat rather than tires that are full- round.
Stay cool, man.
Peace.
