The last US president to cut the federal corporate tax was Reagan.
Many of the richest American corporations paid no income tax in 2009, including G.E. & Exxon. U.S. revenues from corporate taxes as percentage of GDP are among the lowest in the world. Those European countries mentioned have very high personal income taxes which is why they have greater distribution of wealth.
When Reagan cut corporate taxes in 1986 it did not improve the economy for middle class Americans. The economy was already in high gear under a top marginal tax rate of 50%.

Also under German law, a corporation's board must have at least 50% of their membership elected by that company's employees.

The lowest unemployment rate ever recorded, 2.5%, was in May-June of 1953 when the top marginal tax rate was 91%.
The period of the lowest tax rates of the last 97 years was from 1925-1929 when the top rate started at 28% & by 1929 was down to 24%. That brief period of record low taxes was followed by the Great Depression.

In Switzerland the top federal bracket on personal income is 11.5%, 8.5% for corporations, and the country works marvelously. Socialists hate this strong decentralization because promotes fiscal competition between cantons and further tax cuts and privatization, so they asked for a referendum to create a minimum tax of 22% on people earning >250,000 francs. The Swiss said NO a few weeks ago.

Yes, Kennedy was so conservative that he led the way toward the creation of the hugely popular SOCIALIST program known as Medicare. High tax rates on the biggest earning businesses incentivizes them to hire more workers rather than pay that extra money to the govt.

California pays more money in taxes to the federal government than any other state. It is the wealthy liberal states like CA & NY that pay the cost of running the country. By the end of his first term, all of the troops would have been gone. It was LBJ that brought about the pointless war that was the Vietnam War with regards to American interests.
Yet he got us in the war then his VP continued the endless war in which nothing was accomplished. I don't understand why people thought JFK was a great president.
He didn't formally declare war or try to conquer North Vietnam. He was opposed to openly fighting in Vietnam. They didn't fight against the Vietmihn. His VP esclataed the war. He formally declared war fo no valid reason and increased the troops on the ground from 13000 to about 500000. You can't blame Kennedy. Blame LBJ.

Kennedy was still on a pontoon boat when they first started shipping provisions into Hai Phong harbor in the 1940s, while we were still involved in WWII. Vietnam predates even Kennedy.
Shipping provisions has absolutely nothing to do with a war. We ship provisions all over the place. Kennedy said he attacked because he was afraid communism would spread. Again, I'm just looking at what he did, and I don't see anything worth the praise that he received. Presidents who deserve praise are FDR, Reagan, Lincoln, and quite a few of the first 10 presidents.
JFK & his brother were in Vietnam in the early 1950s & they saw what happened to the French. JFK never wanted to Americanize the war like LBJ did. He never americanized any thing while he was President. He wouldn't use U.S. troops to support the Bay of Pigs. There were at least 2 secret diplomatic efforts he made re Vietnam. One seeking peace, the other was to try to save the Diem government. They were secret because he couldn't trust his own diplomatic corps, and others. Long story.
JFK was President during an extraodrinarily difficult time. You don't know what the climate was like. There was a lot of right wing acitivty and about the worse thing a politician could be accused of is soft on communism. The fact that he made speeches like his American Univ. Peace Speech and said some of the things he said to Big Business ("Mankind is our business") was extraordinary. LBJ got us into Vietnam. I don't blame Presidents for their mistakes as long as they try to rectify them.
While JFK cut capital gains taxes in Jan. '63, he also proposed raising the minimum wage, which, like now, was a contentious, liberal issue. But the post Missile Crises Kennedy is, in my opinion, a much more liberal president than the '61-62 version.
There are tapes of LBJ confirming this, since LBJ strongly disagreed with Kennedy on Vietnam. Kennedy was strongly considering pulling out of Vietnam, which was a huge policy reversal. Robert S McNamara, Kennedy's secretary of Defense, confirmed this as well. Oh by the way, bay of pigs was Eisenhower's idea, but was Kennedy's fault because Kennedy refused to provide air support. And please, Jellolion1. don't use Nixon as a source. The guy is a crook.
Kennedy may have come across to some as Hawkish, but he only did it to look tough on Communism (since the reps called him naive and weak). Even after the Cuban missile crisis, reps blamed him for being soft on communism because he cut a deal with Kruschev (hence AVOIDING nuclear war). His NSAM #263, to WITHDRAW 1000 troops from Vietnam, was kept quiet b/c he wanted to pass it in his second term (or else the reps would use that policy against him and call him weak).
True. Kennedy's civil rights bill which Johnson passed in 1964 gave the south to the reps as Johnson said. Hence, the south votes rep today. I think JFK was part of this process of change. We went from Woodrow Wilson conservative dem to JFK liberal dem. As for conservatives, god knows what happened there.
Established the peace corps, pushed legislation for civil rights (passed after his death in 1964), stood up to the soviets without firing a single shot or dropping a single bomb (even though the CIA wanted him to do it), preached peace and love as a way to defeat Communism (unusual for a President) in the latter years of his presidency, strongly backed the space program, and had legislation to withdraw 1000 troops from Vietnam, NSAM #263. Never happened cuz he was shot.
Man this president had some real balls, he served his country and served it well. He faced the calamitous issues of his time and they shot him dead for it.
One thing you have to admit, this guy was a Hell of a speaker. His only limit is the fact that his accent may confuse some people, but I can listen to this 50 years later and get a charge out of it. I can't say the same about Gore or Kerry. I like Obama, but Barrack never got to attacking his opponent the way Jack did.
Give him time. He had to walk a dangerous tightrope in order to win and already his every move, breath and fart are being scrutinized by the Limbaughs and Hannitys. JFK was the biggest hawk ever to enter the white house. He was to the right of Nixon on military issues. Nixon said JFK was dangerous and wreckless. Reagan's successful tax cut was the one that cut the top rate to 50%. That was the rate in '84 during the recovery that was his greatest success as president.
It was in 1987 that he cut the top rate to 28%. That cut created stock market bubble that burst in Oct '87 resulting in the first market crash since the last time taxes were that low in the 1920's.

JFK was himself a Keynesian. His chief economic advisor, John Kenneth Galbraith, is the most famous of Keynes' disciples & JFK's tax cut is a textbook example of Keynesian policy.
Any Econ 101 course teaches Keynes' idea that cutting taxes during a recession is correct, but this is assuming that you have a responsible tax policy to begin with. What we have now under the Bush era tax laws isn't responsible tax policy. Clinton raised taxes by 8.6% in 1993 to 39.6% & the economy boomed.

The economy is more export-oriented and unemployment in the EU core countries is back to low early 1970s levels. The German economy is booming like never did after re-unification. In 2008 they cut the federal corporate tax by 10 points, to a flat 15 percent. Also did the Swedish and the Austrian, who are booming too. The last US president to cut the federal corporate tax was Reagan.

Many of the richest American corporations paid no income tax in 2009, including G.E. & Exxon. U.S. revenues from corporate taxes as percentage of GDP are among the lowest in the world. Those European countries mentioned have very high personal income taxes which is why they have greater distribution of wealth.
When Reagan cut corporate taxes in 1986 it did not improve the economy for middle class Americans. The economy was already in high gear under a top marginal tax rate of 50%.

Since China and others became central actors in the world economy, every single european country has cut the corporate tax. In Germany, the guy who decentralized labor/capital relations, fought unions, deregulated business and slashed taxes for medium and big companies, is called Schroeder, a socialist. Corporate tax rates in Europe are dramatically lower than 10 years ago.

Even though Germany still has very personal high tax rates compared to the U.S. & they have pursued the huge govt. intervention policy of "Kurzarbeit", they still have much lower unemployment & a much healthier economy? Also under German law, a corporation's board must have at least 50% of their membership elected by that company's employees.

By 1991 the US economy was still laboring under the effects of that low tax rate though Bush41 did sign the tax increase raising the rate to 31%.
1991 marked what was at that time the worst economy since the Great Depression.
In the post war years, 1946 until Reagan at no point was the top rate lower than 70% and it was under those high tax rates that we had our best economies. At no point in that era did we have a stock market or real estate crash, financial crisis or severe recession.

Again. I will make it simple for you. Name one time in the last 100 years when the US economy has emerged from a recession with a top tax rate as low as it is now.
The lowest unemployment rate ever recorded, 2.5%, was in May-June of 1953 when the top marginal tax rate was 91%.
The period of the lowest tax rates of the last 97 years was from 1925-1929 when the top rate started at 28% & by 1929 was down to 24%. That brief period of record low taxes was followed by the Great Depression.

In Switzerland the top federal bracket on personal income is 11.5%, 8.5% for corporations, and the country works marvelously. Socialists hate this strong decentralization because promotes fiscal competition between cantons and further tax cuts and privatization, so they asked for a referendum to create a minimum tax of 22% on people earning >250,000 francs. The Swiss said NO a few weeks ago.

Yes, Kennedy was so conservative that he led the way toward the creation of the hugely popular SOCIALIST program known as Medicare. You can see his brillant argument for this great liberal program in the youtube video, “Kennedy at Madison Square Garden” parts 1&2. It's one of his greatest speeches. This massive increase in government spending now accounts for about 12% of the annual Federal budget.
Reagan himself called Medicare socialism & campaigned against it.

The Federal budget originates in the White House & can't become law without the president's signature. Those balanced budgets were made possible by the boom economy that followed the tax hike on the richest Americans made by Clinton & the Dems. No Republican voted for that tax hike. High tax rates on the biggest earning businesses incentivizes them to hire more workers rather than pay that extra money to the govt.
The point of liberal policy is to give business greater incentive to hire.

California pays more money in taxes to the federal government than any other state. It is the wealthy liberal states like CA & NY that pay the cost of running the country. It is our money that supports those moocher red states with our tax dollars. He put the civil rights bill in congress and donated all his salary to charity. No President has ever done that. RFK did the same thing & his salary was a lot less. You can actually hear Kennedy's ambivalence about a coup in Vietnam. You can actually hear him say that he doesn't want anything to happen to Diem. More tapes are coming too. In response to some of the below, JFK was a very popular President throughout his presidency. The only drop in popularity happened when he proposed Civil Rights legislation to Congress. Nixon was so moderate that he advsied JFK to drop the bomb on Cuba during the Cuban Missle Crisis and during the Vietnam War he and Henry Kissinger were planning to drop the Bomb on Cambodia (a major source of arms to the Viet Cong.) They decided not to because of massive anti-demonstrationsn in D.C.

Kennedy was removing all the troops from Vietnam. When he was killed there were 13 000 to 15 000 American troops serving as advisers to the ARVN. By the end of his first term, all of the troops would have been gone. It was LBJ that brought about the pointless war that was the Vietnam War with regards to American interests.

He didn't formally declare war or try to conquer North Vietnam. He was opposed to openly fighting in Vietnam. They didn't fight against the Vietmihn. His VP esclataed the war. He formally declared war fo no valid reason and increased the troops on the ground from 13000 to about 500000. You can't blame Kennedy. Blame LBJ.

JFK & his brother were in Vietnam in the early 1950s & they saw what happened to the French. JFK never wanted to Americanize the war like LBJ did. He never americanized any thing while he was President. He wouldn't use U.S. troops to support the Bay of Pigs. There were at least 2 secret diplomatic efforts he made re Vietnam. One seeking peace, the other was to try to save the Diem government. They were secret because he couldn't trust his own diplomatic corps, and others. Long story.

JFK was President during an extraodrinarily difficult time. You don't know what the climate was like. There was a lot of right wing acitivty and about the worse thing a politician could be accused of is soft on communism. The fact that he made speeches like his American Univ. Peace Speech and said some of the things he said to Big Business ("Mankind is our business") was extraordinary. LBJ got us into Vietnam. I don't blame Presidents for their mistakes as long as they try to rectify them.

There are tapes of LBJ confirming this, since LBJ strongly disagreed with Kennedy on Vietnam. Kennedy was strongly considering pulling out of Vietnam, which was a huge policy reversal. Robert S McNamara, Kennedy's secretary of Defense, confirmed this as well. Oh by the way, bay of pigs was Eisenhower's idea, but was Kennedy's fault because Kennedy refused to provide air support. And please, Jellolion1. don't use Nixon as a source. The guy is a crook.

Kennedy may have come across to some as Hawkish, but he only did it to look tough on Communism (since the reps called him naive and weak). Even after the Cuban missile crisis, reps blamed him for being soft on communism because he cut a deal with Kruschev (hence AVOIDING nuclear war). His NSAM #263, to WITHDRAW 1000 troops from Vietnam, was kept quiet b/c he wanted to pass it in his second term (or else the reps would use that policy against him and call him weak).

True. Kennedy's civil rights bill which Johnson passed in 1964 gave the south to the reps as Johnson said. Hence, the south votes rep today. I think JFK was part of this process of change. We went from Woodrow Wilson conservative dem to JFK liberal dem. As for conservatives, god knows what happened there.

Established the peace corps, pushed legislation for civil rights (passed after his death in 1964), stood up to the soviets without firing a single shot or dropping a single bomb (even though the CIA wanted him to do it), preached peace and love as a way to defeat Communism (unusual for a President) in the latter years of his presidency, strongly backed the space program, and had legislation to withdraw 1000 troops from Vietnam, NSAM #263. Never happened cuz he was shot.
