  • Fucking cats ther were many at mental hospital i allways knew there was something wrong with that third world hospital

  • oh no. is this true?

  • WHEN I WAS 5 YEARS I HAD A CAT TOO.....I AM 17 NOW............IT DOESNT SOUNDS GOOD.

  • You is soooo stupid man! U dunt get Bipolar from cats Dumass! Is a Mental illness No a disees! ...de doctars mis diagnosed U! U dunt havs Bipolar...U has RETARDED!

  • Dooood! U is So Stupid! U canot get Bipolar from Cats, o from no animals..Is no a diseas, Is a mental illnes! ...Wat u has is no Bipolar! de doctars Misdiagnosed U!!! Wat u has is RETARDED!!!

  • @borichica33mar Wow you, excuse me "u" R so eridite! I is cnvinced!

  • Where did you get your information from, this sounds interesting but there are so many different schools of thought when dealing with bipolar, it's just hard to believe anything anymore.

  • @movadoband The Center for Disease Control. A fly by night outfit :)

  • Kill all cats!

  • Every theory needs to be considered, researched, discussed and checked... let's see where this goes,

  • @kerrileewolf Excellent answer. Since I posted this, they have also found the same links to schizophrenia, published I believe in Science magazine a couple of months ago.

  • Don't insult us with your nonsese. The is not, nor will there ever be a cure. If there is one, you can have my dose. The only doctors that are dumber than surgeons are psychiatrists. Well boys, why don't we make up a bunch of shit as we go along(YEEaaaaaaahhhh).

  • @stormymonday1864 Awesomely persuasive. Glad you're wrong though.

  • This video angers me.

  • @TransientSylph why?

  • Google: Dr. Peter Breggin and learn the truth about psyche-meds. What Big Pharma doesn't want you to know. See his testimony before Congress, and check out his books: "Medication Madness: A Psychiatrist Exposes the Dangers of Mood-Altering Medications" and "Brain Disabling Treatments In Psychiatry" If you go nuts when you get off meds, it's because you're in WITHDRAWAL from a dangerous drug. See: "The Gerson Therapy", "Healing Cancer From Inside Out", and read "When Healing Becomes A Crime"

  • @Silenus6 Be careful of this one. A friend of mine went of her meds a couple of years ago listening to people like this and killed herself. Going off your meds has a real effect, its just a real BAD effect. Think about how you were at your worst before meds...thats you without meds. It ain;t the meds buddy.

  • @cliffatgoogle Yes, the withdrawals from the drugs can be even worse than the depression w/o drugs. Weening off the drugs can be the most dangerous part, and needs to be done carefully and responsibly. Many psychotic episodes are triggered by doctors taking their patients off these drugs too suddenly. Patients who never exhibited psychotic features may exhibit them in such instances. This is what happens when you play with brain chemistry. Definitely take your time getting off the drugs.

  • @Silenus6 Once we understand how the drugs work, and the intended function of them in the first place, we need to stop taking them and deal with the issues naturally (we can do it), but you are right, we need to do it gradually and make sure we remain stable during the time we titrate off these toxic chemicals.

  • This video is totally nuts and has no scientific bases whatsoever!

  • @IgorMorais666 yes it does, google is your friend.

  • @IgorMorais666 Yeah, I say that every time I see stuff from the CDC. I bow to your logic.

  • Yet another conspiracy theory....

  • 0:53 - 1:07 made me laugh, ALOT.

  • @bianca1the1cat Glad you liked it :)

  • @CliffBetweenTheLines The Cat looks excactly like mine :D

  • @bianca1the1cat It took me a long time to discover my cat was a Turkish Angora. Check it out if you haven't already :D

  • @CliffBetweenTheLines The Cat looks excactly like mine :D

  • omg i could've gotten bipolar from a cat's ass. very intriguing.

  • This has been observed throughout the natural world, there is one that makes door-mice stand high on fences so that owls will prey on them very easily. viruses that seem to rewire the brain and nervous system to inhibit all natural behaviours. these all tend to have a predator/prey relationship

to relate this to a human pshycological condition is poposterous. to suggest that mood swings (NOT behavioural changes) can be controlled by a virus is outrageous.

  • lol. lets blame cat dung for bipolar. wtf ppl.

  • yeah, thats like blaming colds on germs, geez

  • sliver rods will fix that, look up blue man and listen to what he takes everyday, some thing called sliver c----- something that kill viruses. check out. I tried of have this....

  • I have been diagnosed as bipolar and I love czts. After seeing this I can't help wondering if that's just me or a reaction to a virus.

I have heard of a similar cyclic virus between birds and slugs. Curiously, infected slugs live longer than normal although they are regularly peched at by birds.

  • That explains those crazy cat ladies who are caught with 150 cats. :-o

    seriously though, informative video.

  • Thank you for making this video! There is so much speculation about the legitimacy of Bipolar disorder, it's good that you've shed some light on a possible physiological catalyst for the condition as many skeptics stress it is a myth.

So are owners of cats much more susceptible to contracting the Borna disease virus? I've lived with cats all my life, and I have Bipolar disorder.

  • Only the uninformed and self important speculate on its legitimacy, and their opinions are seldom useful on any topic :) However, as I state in another video, many are misdiagnosed with BP who don't have it in the first case, which muddies the water.

I think cats are so common in our society that every child is exposed to them, whether in a sandbox on a playground or whatever. It is the feces that carry the virus.

  • Thank you. Well I'm pretty sure I do have it, and I'll try to keep your info in mind for whenever I come across a skeptic.

This has been very helpful to me ;)

  • Gee, you convinced me. (not) The science says otherwise, that's why this vid has references to the actual research by established sources and not just cryptic remarks, but thanks anyway.

  • a great video

  • I thought you must be joking, but actually, states with big cats, like bobcats and cougars have higher suicide rates, although the methods are the typical gunshot to the head or hanging, not sudden seeking out of cats. But then, rats are too small to manage a long gun and unable to get handguns. Or tie knots. So their suicide options are limited.

  • Interesting theory, still it brings up further questions.

  • What on earth is the CDC up to now?

What Heidi had to say is a classic case of Bipolar disorder.

She had meningitis early on and most likely was traumatized by it.

Further, most of those with Bipolar have a very high EQ..i.e. very caring, affectionate and loving individuals.

PTSD comes in all forms. It is the stages of PTSD that need to be addressed because if not treated will lead to physical stresses later on which some idiot called bipolar to cover the medical industries A**!

  • Hey :) Have you seen my video "Can You Think Your Way Out of Bipolar Disorder?" Bipolar is an exclusively physically caused illness, and unlike PTSD and many other illnesses, can't be caused by emotional trauma. It is a result of physical damage to the brain itself, most likely to the hypothalamus. Unfortunately other illnesses have symptoms that mimic bipolar leading to many misdiagnosis and confusion such as your statements. Take a look at that vid for more info.

  • even if this is true, and scientists find a "cure" for bipolar disorder, they will never make it available on the market. major illnesses, the ones that affect millions of people everyday, allow drug companies to stay rich and powerful. when was the last cure discovered for a major illness? with all the science and technology available to us, why do we only find ways in which to "treat" illnesses with more medications, etc.? (AIDS, cancer, bipolar, paranoid schizophrenia, lime disease).

  • Pharm companies are greedy, I'll go with you on that one. But they are not evil, they are just driven by the bottom line. I guarantee you that a company that finds a cure for any of the diseases you listed will IMMEDIATELY steal the entire market from any treatments out there. That would be like candy to them. It's not always a conspiracy...sometimes cures are just hard to find or we don't know how yet.

  • "In recent years, bipolar disorder has been found to be a physical disorder, not an emotional disorder."

ALL emotional disorders are result of a physical or environmental disorder of some sort, so they're one and the same.

  • I disagree fundamentally. An emotional disorder, whatever the cause, is still an emotional disorder and one without a physical cause. It is the difference between diabetes and a fear of heights. One is physical, caused by damage to an organ. The other is caused by wrong thinking and can be cured by therapy.

  • had to come back again, it's so good

  • Thank you :)

  • I don't think there is one single cause of a mental illness because the brain is highly complex. If it were as simple as a virus, then what about the genetic component? Could it be a combination of genes interacting with environmental stimuli or stressors such as viruses?

  • As I see it, the genetics are what makes one susceptable to the virus in the first place. Not everyone is susceptable to the virus damaging them, that trait would be the genetic link as the virus damages members of one family and leaves another family unscathed when infected.

  • Thank you so much for this video. It gives hope. I suffer from bipolar type 2. When I was 3 years old I had meningitis caused by a virus. I always thought that the meningitis was the cause, but the doctors said they never had heard of meningitis as cause of bipolar.

  • Just because the docs haven't heard of it doesn't mean it isn't the case. I have a rare memory problem that is caused by a rare type of migraine. Me and a guy in Switzerland have it and hardly anyone else. My docs looked hard for months trying to figure it out, and finally *I* figured it out. As far as the meningitus - bipolar link, I don't know enough to say, but its possible I think.

  • i heard that Britney Spears got this disease, the bipolar disease. Why??!!

  • According to this theory, if she does have it it may be due to damage she sustained in a viral infection while a little girl.

  • She was labeled bipolar as a result of post part depression that went untreated.

  • this is a first class video, an inspiration to me!

  • Thank you, i am glad you found it to be so! :)

  • I just cant wait for the day that they find a cure so that my daughter can live a good life incase i am no longer here for her to relie upon!

  • Every day that passes is one day closer to that cure, and every advance like this one is one step farther along the path. I really think it will happen one day.

  • Dear Cliff

Could you please direct me to your sources - I am really interested in learning more about this - I honestly have never heard of this theory or the even more staggering stat of male suicide being as high as 33% - that is staggering and apparently in desparate need of a great deal of more attention. At the end of the day when my denial subsides I have never believed the theory everyone has a perfect brain.

  • :) The primary source for me was the Center for Disease Control's article on Bipolar Disorder. Item2006 above gave more specific and newer references as well. The 33% number reflects the fact that males tend to use more drastic measures (i.e. guns, bridges) where females use more benign methods (i.e. pills). AVERAGED suicide is 20%, but the great preponderance of deaths are male (33% vs. 7% in the numbers I have seen, making 80% of actual deaths male if that is true.)

  • Cliff:

Thank you very much for posting this - I suffer with the disorder and have been told a number of reasons - genetics - and may be stricken on its host by life threatening or extreme stressful life circumstances. I am still searching - one day I accept the diagnosis another I defy the mere idea. I only wish we could know for sure. Stats suggest the suicide rate among bi-polar is as high as 20%. That is a very sad and extreme statistic.

  • It's worse...males it is 33%.

The way I see it, unless you prescribe to a theory like this one (which has a great deal of proof so far) Then you have to accept the "perfect brain" theory that says everyone has a perfect brain and we can all be well. Sorry, I can't do that, this is real life. Things break.

  • Cliff

Actually I have heard there is indications of the disorder dating back before Christ - and the sufferers seemed to gain relief from natural occuring water springs containing lithium salts.

  • That would make perfect sense, as I myself obtain some release from the same source :) Cool fact!

  • It's not funny to have a disease or a virus.

  • Got that right. I have immense compassion for anyone suffering from any illness, whether viral or otherwise. I can identify on the problem sleeping thing, my hat's off to you my friend.

  • I have problems sleeping at night that's why It's not funny to have I.V.S. It's not funny at all. I should not of rushed myself.

  • Bipolar is one of the biggest controversies of our time. I was Dxd with BPD, had the worst symptoms for 15 years. Meditation, yoga and tai chi beat bipolar. Symptom free for 10 years now. They will not find a gene, a virus, an ameoba, or a protein for BP. It's a brain thing. Also, you can't say its a body problem without proof. Interesting video regardless.

  • Actually, it does appear to be the Borna virus. Go to the CDC site and read the article. They can give the virus to apes and the apes get bipolar from it. People with bipolar test positive for the virus at a rate that would be consistent with what would be expected for a 100% level. Heredity appears to pass along susceptability to the virus. Tests are ongoing.

  • SFJane

I have read about your success - I can only say I am very happy for you. In my case I have tried everything but stand on my head naked in public. I do not like labels and believe they can be self perpetuating however in my circumstances although as you have suggested no particular gene has been identified - the symptoms run high in my geneology and have shown similiar results in twin studies. Thank you for sharing your methods and wish you all the best and continued success=

  • I have read about the twin studies. My mom is BP. She only told me after my second suicide attempt. My sister broke down at age 20, dxd BP Rxd LiC. On the other side of family an Aunt went on Prozac in the 90s. I hear you. But.

  • cont- jodyrea

I spent 10 years living in solitude and focusing on healing my mind. That is a cure no one tries and why I make videos. To tell you there is hope. I would never ever want a genetic or chemical cure for this. If bipolar is really in every cell, then it is us. We are it. I am not ashamed. If you get past the dark side bipolar is a gift and I love myself and would rather live flawed because that is what I am.

  • cont- jody

I am so confident in meditation as a permanent cure that I have an open offer to any university to image my brain while I am meditating. I was mentally ill as a child. fMRI and PET scans are showing the brains of people with active mental illness for years are changed. Scans of meditators show growth in the psycho emotional control centers. The cure is staring at scientists in the face. Rebuild the brain with meditation.

  • Dear Jane

I agree a whole lot in what you are saying and it makes a great deal of sense. I have often felt that it is not us and our sometimes symptomatic behaviour that needs attention - but rather acceptance - I have battled the darkness all my life but the bigger battle has been gaining love and acceptance for who I am good "bad" and indifferent - I try not to use the negative connotaions - once again thank you Jane and I would like to talk some day if its alright with you?

  • of course jody, please feel free to email me anytime :)

  • Thanks both of you. SFJane, you are right in that things such as meditation can effect a real physical change on our brains. On the other hand, I don't believe this illness is a result of a genetic market as such, only the susceptability of the initial damage is genetic. Thus, like no two burn victims are the same, no two of us are either. Some have damage of one sort, some of another.

  • (cont) As a result I don't believe any avenue, meds or meditation or other therapy, is a cure-all for ua. Some respond to meds well, some as you can control it without meds. All are different, all unique.

  • (cont) BTW I also agree with the "good" side of the illness being worthwhile and even more than worthwhile, a point I have met with great resistance on. I want to do a vid on that one day.

  • Nice video! Does that mean I should stop sleeping with my cats????

  • LOL

  • ECHOBELLY, GOT IT. GREAT VID.

  • There's a music montage to this song as well, take a look at my vid list :) Enjoy!

  • What music is used, it's great!

  • The music was the best part. The rest may be stretching it unless the virus affects the pituitary gland. There are some studies that mercury accumulates in the pituitary gland also.

  • I haven't heard of the virus affecting the pituitary gland, but then again, almost all of the studies I have seen point to the operative structures for bipolar being the thalamus and hypothalamus, not the pituitary. Thanks for the comment :)

  • I liked everything about this video, music included.

  • I love Echobelly, and no one in the states has heard of them :)

  • Hi Cliff, you did an excellent job in composing this accurate educational video. I think, it is important to notice that the video does not rely on just one recent study tooting some genuine "new" results (you may improve the info box). It refers to a review article entitled "Borna Disease", authored by Hatalski et al. and published in Emerging Infectious Diseases in 1997. The article you recommended is certainly a good point to start reading, as it provides a [tbc]

  • [ctd] sound overview on a body of literature data which accumulated since a possible link between Borna virus and - in particular - Bipolar has been suggested (Rott et al. 1985, Science). As far as I can guess from a non-expert rush through more recent publications, the central question of causation or coincidence has not been settled yet. However, the Borna virus trace clearly remained under serious consideration and its high potential continued to trigger vivid research in this direction.

  • hmmh... there should be two parts. I'll try to post it again.

  • Both parts are here :) Exactly right, and thank you for adding the details.

  • According to the statistics on your video, as with any virus, apparently the person with the low immune system is the one this virus will affect. This makes sense from what I have been hearing on YT. Lots of the ppl with eating disorders are, also, bi-polar. The ED lowers their immune function, thereby making it easy for the virus to take hold. Again, I am right back to preventative, natural medicine to stay healthy--keep that immune system up to par! Thanks for the info.

  • My take on it was that the susceptability was genetic, since bipolar runs in families...but then again, so does ED. What is the status on determining if ED's are behavioral or genetic, I wonder? Perhaps the low immune system, as related to that part of the brain, is inherited?

  • interesting video, will look up bipolar disease to get an idea of wat it is thanx for posting!

  • In a nutshell, Bipolar Disorder is a combination of periods of depression, periods of mania, and sometimes periods of both at the same time. Sometimes Bipolar Disorder can be only one symptom with a mild instance of another.
