They tried to "update" the sound & arrangement - would not call it shitty but the original is much better I have to agree plus it is live. I think the Bluecaps sounded live very different in the 50's than on record since they did not use the upright bass but an electric one because it was easier transportation wise& needed less room (plus it was a relative new invasion-do not forget what now is nostalgia was once modern or even avantgarde :-)
This was released just before I entered junior high. This, and "Summertime Blues" came out about the same time. Of course, you realize that this is not the original version. Poor Gene never achieved the success that everyone thought he would. Made a go of it in England but never could follow up with anything big here in the states. And, like many others died too early.
"Gene Vincent was a musician decades ahead of his peers. Earthier than Elvis Presley, more sensual than Jerry Lee Lewis, sexier than Buddy Holly, Gene was the embodiment of the libidinous, defiant tension upon which rock 'n' roll was founded and continues to flourish. In rock history, it was Gene Vincent who first donned the all black leather stage gear that's since become a punk rock and heavy metal hallmark".
He surely was not "earthier" than Tupelo-born Elvis who covered songs of bluesmen like Crudup, A. Gunther, Roy Brown,Kid Emerson.Link Wray was dressed in leather long before Gene & the leather dress for Gene was btw an idea of a british impressario who was surprised how "tame" Vincent looked compared to his energetic Rock&Roll sound.I have to agree that early-Gene had a better sound on record than Jerry Lee (and especially Carl Perkins) equal to Haley,Holly&Elvis
@2011framat I said that in rock history, it was Gene Vincent who first donned the all black leather and silver medallion stage gear that's since become a punk rock and heavy metal hallmark. Link Wray is an underrated rocker.
This is a British TV show (look at the Marconi MK IV cameras), with the typical "clean" kinescope image (the film rate exactly matched the video frame rate). I have seen other clips of this show. I wish I knew what it was.
I would like to get a copy of this,as if my memory serve's me right, there's Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis on the same film .I can remember watching this when it went out on tv in the 60s.

@topi625 A burst (Peptic?) ulcer. He was very hesitant to go to the hospital for treatment , until it was just too late for them to do anything.

Certainly not a premiere of the leather outfit. He had been wearing it since 1960 although this version dated from 1962.

Actual LIVE performance on British television - and premiere of his leather jacket, leather pants and gold chain outfit.
