ihearu2 is right. Also, "In God We Trust" and the "under God" part of the pledge were not added until the 20th century. The original leaders of this country wanted us to have a secular system. Religion was to be practiced seperately from government.
The religious right somehow refuse to study history and the fact that this country was NOT started as a Christian nation. It is time to read some Thomas Paine, Ben Franklin, George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. We are a country that is supposed to be free for ALL people, regardless of race, gender, or religion. Freedom of religion means it MUST be kept out of schools. We have many many religions in this country. We absolutely CANNOT play favorites and create a theocracy.
This is a quote from the article "Common sense" proving our founding fathers were indeed Christians "As the exalting one man so greatly above the rest cannot be justified on the equal rights of nature, so neither can it be defended on the authority of scripture; for the will of the Almighty as declared by Gideon, and the prophet Samuel expressly disapproves of government by Kings" what about the Decelerations of Independece? its quoted "endowed by their Creator" that referred to God the Almighty
Neither of these indicate that they were "Christians," although some of the founders certainly were. If you check into the various beliefs of the time, you'll see that those who were deist rather than Christian used the terms you see in the Declaration of Independence, which by the way is NOT the Constitution or Bill of Rights (actual legal documents of the US).
I am American and I stand for freedom. In God We Trust was NOT the motto when this country began. It was E Pluribus Unum until 1956 when the Christian zealots decided we needed to make things "better." Teddy Roosevelt was AGAINST this new motto.
Hey didnt this guy also do the song for Team American World Police. "Freedom isnt free, its gota heafty... fuckin...fee..and if we dont chip our buck O five who will?"
Yes it was, it was based heavily on christian morals the only thing they hadn't done was declare that it was a christian state. The point of that was because most of the original colonists were Puritans, Quakers, and etc. where they left Britain to escape religious persecution, no jews were around yet.
actually its both because you dont have to have a religion so in a way we also have freedom FROM religion...thats why im glad im in america where the christianity declines every year.
You foolish man, I will turn in my grave when the day comes were america prohibits Christianity. When america turns away from God so will he, and I will laugh in heaven at the future America, because its not the america I know and love
Don't worry, lorndarken. One day those Boobahs you're still playing with will say more than three lines and you'll be a big kid. However, you have to stop eating those mushrooms you found in the forest first. Good luck.
thats a surprise, country music and christian patriotic music.. what a hugh surprise. i thank you god for being there somewhere, where ever you are, oh and by the way can you tell me ending to the story of jack and the bean stalk, after all god, you did kill that giant , and steal the golden guess egg. :P weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee , imaginary friends are soooooooooo cool to have faith in, dont you agree ?

That's right, but what you fail to understand is that we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

freedom of religion wouldnt be possible without freedom from religion..
Picture it with colors... YOu want the color blue but someone else keeps on pushing the color red on you. Same with christianity...
Freedom of religion is not possible with out freedom from religion..
