I take it you've never played the campaign mode of M2:TW. Not to mention how massively more complex actual battle in the TW series are. Limited ammunition, fatigue, morale, flanking and so on. Compared to that, the AoE series is downright primitive.

The Janissary Corps is one of history's great military contingents. No doubt. But, like the Egyptian Mamelukes, it was comprised of slaves.
Its men were not Turkish (apart from the officers), and they mostly consisted of Armenians, Macedonians, Greeks and Russians (of Viking and Norse ancestry).
Incidentally, the Turks have always been a powerful military people, and still have the second largest army in Nato (after the US).
