yeah what a dumb ass idiot, mantis shrimp want to eat live prey. i can just see him looking at you from the tank wondering what kind of an idiot you are. then he decided to eat it only to humor you.
ummmm it might have ate it faster if you did not have a shishkabob stick that is the width if the eel poking around, and have the eel swimming actually
god, look at that thing. it's weird but i find that arthropod cute as hell.
if these colorful bastards weren't called thumb splitters, i'd be highly tempted to stroke them. as it is, i am highly tempted to buy one for a pet :p

glad to see someone on here not feeding their mantis shrimp live food those sick fucks, and i don't want to hear anyone say its just nature, no in nature the prey has a chance to escape in an aquarium it doesn't, like throwing a dog in a pit full of sharks
Well if they keep eating prepared foods the might get lazy and if they don't use there predatorial apendages they've been known to grow weak and even fall off. This is a true fact for smashers but I'm not sure about the spearers.
thats not so much true yes if there lazy as but if you own a mantis witch is a smasher you will know the endless Clicks of them hitting the rocks to make there homes bigger mines only 7cm by like 2cm and hes smashed caves in the rock all over the place
mantis shrimps can move their forelimbs at the same speed as a 2 cal. bullet. Just becuase the octopus is bigger doesn't mean it will win. Also the Shrimp showed the octopus off, so that shows how they are matched without a fight. but i still think they should fight, that'd be awesome.
actually mantis shrimp do come like that. its a relativaly cheap one. i picked up a 1" for 8bux.
Common Names: False Mantis, Rainbow Mantis
Scientific name: Pseudosquilla ciliata
Weapon: Spearer
Max Size: ~4
Oh and by the way: Relies greatly on predation of small fish, especially in aquariums. They are known for their ability to change colors to suit surroundings after only a few molts. Adults should be kept in tanks of at least 20 gallon
I got my 4" peacock mantis for free!!! It came out of the main display reef at my Local fish shop. They found it in the overflow box. The guy said they had been chasing it for years, and it just got a little too inquisitive one day and went over the weir, they got rid of a "pest" and I got an awesome new mantis!! He's in his own little 20Gal tank with a couple small feeder fish. I couldn't be happier with the price either!
didn't know that chartruse was a designer color for Mantis lol. What species is it? BTW The pole may have scared him. You can thread a piece of fishing line without a hook through the Sandeel's mouth and out the gill.
@Skeeeder I´m not american. You´re the one who is a retard here. Go get a life yourself. "Why you know what mantis shrimp is"? What the is that suppose to mean? Cunt.

My Arrowjauna or whatever the spelling eats fishes like a foot long. CUZ MY ARROW WHATEVER IT'S CALLED IS 6 FOOT LONG!! HAHAHAH! and his name is Shadow but the tanks soo huge like over 10 meters long!

They come in many colors, and they can't bite your hand, but they can hit it with their arms, which will hurt a lot.
They're also very interesting to keep as a pet, they're really smart.
Google Mantis Shrimp, and go into the lurkers guide of Stomatopods ( Mantis Shrimp), it will tell you everything you want to know.
SpacemanSpiff420 5 years ago
r thse rare?
ace93 5 years ago
No, Mantis Shrimp are actually quite easy to acquire if you know where to look for them.
Lots of pet stores won't keep them because they kill almost anything that you put in with them, and larger species can break aquarium glass.
If you want lots of info on these guys, just message me.
SpacemanSpiff420 5 years ago
lol uhh i wanna no are they always green and do they bite ur hand?
