Ocean phytoplankton absorb CO2 and produce about 30% of the atmosphere's O2 (oxygen) by photosynthesis. But approximately 1/3 of man-made CO2 is absorbed by the oceans causing ocean acidification.

However, when oceans get too warm they will stop absorbing more CO2 and will start giving off all that previously absorbed CO2.

That's called a tipping point.

Then it will be too late. When that happens global temps will rise about 10-20F (maybe in just 20-50 years.)
