No offense to David Bowie but I don't see why people compare this band to David Bowie. This band is hot and they know more about music and creativity. I like them much better. No comparison.
Peter Hammil's creative ability is unlike anything seen on Earth since Mozart or Franz Schubert, the guy has written roughly 33 hours of music in his life
NG.G.G.KIMG CRIMSON,YES, GENESIS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT MILESTONES OF THE WHOLE PROGRESSIVE ROCK..IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WHO CARRIES MORE GLORY..... ***** !!!!!
One of the greatest songs ever written,,,,from a songwriting point of view it's as close to perfection as any rock song could ever be.....semi-opera,semi-medieval fairy tale and fiendishly mystical....Peter Hammill's world is a tapestry of history past and existential explorations...the green fertile landscape of the by-gone glorious days of old...the symbolism and the metaphor is all there...I LOVE THIS MAN,,,and Fripp is THE best guitarist
It's extraordinary how compelling this song still is for me after all these years. I've been listening to music now for over forty years and many different genres and this song still enthralls me. It's sublime and edgy, earthly and spiritual, timeless and spacey. Wonderful.
maybe there are some artists who play only new or very recent material , in the name of innovative idealism, and peter hammil is still doing new stuff, but given the realities of touring and audience expectations it would seem perfectly acceptable for van der graaf to perform a quality song they rarely play, even if it is from " the past " their recent sets have consisted of about 40% older material. and judging by group and audience reactions, there is no problem detected
this song is awesome....very strange, very unique, although i can't help but relate it to Jethro Tull. But anyway, anything that Robert Fripp is associated with will become a legendary staple of greatness.
This doesn't remind me of Tull in the least. Why do you relate VDGG to Jethro Tull?Is it only because there is flute playing? They are both great bands, but in their own unique ways.
Yeah, but Hammil and co. were never interested in living on past glories. What would be the point of getting together to play music? Live in the past?

This album is a night listening favorite of mine, picturing the bleak and scary images of Hammill's lyrics. This song in particular gives me shivers!

I wish they would do this and pioneers in over c live when they tour again instead of average new stuff and 70s reform medleys
