  • For those who inquired the chant is called Hulihia ka mauna and you can find the words probably in pele and hiiaka book that you can order from Edith Kanakaole Foundation or maybe hawaii's volcano national park :) thanks

  • i think the person who commented about "asian people" needs to research migration in Hawaii and the plantation era...this will explain why we asian, no one gets the choice to say whether or not we want to be asian or not. WE ARE NATIVES, because we say we are...its not our fault the UN won't recognize Hawaiians as an indigenous people...

  • I'm not American, thank goodness. I'm Samoan, a polynesian.

  • um....O.K

  • Mean da Mana in dis Oli.

    Mahalo for sharing

  • Aia `o Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole, ka alaka'i, ma loko o keia wikio? Was that Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole , the leader, in this video?

  • @Kailoa36 That is correct, Such a beautiful soul.

  • So wonderful and strong. I love all people. I want to see more of us celebrating our culture, Please it's not a who or what is better it just is. The Kanaka Maoli and other indigenous people around the world must speek loud because we have been squashed in the past so some of our songs are lost but the heart of who we are beats fast and true and will not be denied. I live on the other side of the world, but my soul is moved by your beautiful chant. Thank you and keep going!

  • I all the time like to watch this video...

  • MAHALO!! Very good edit + camera work.

  • someone knows what's the name of the chant ? what are the lyrics ?

  • Um, actually the real Hawaiians have no Asian in them.

  • @okesaita So true. Please, everyone, do research on this. History is amazing!

  • @okesaita then again there are mixed Hawaiians too... Hawai'i is also a melting pot of different cultures...

  • @chuckpalalay I know. I just don't like to see asian-looking "hawaiians" because the hawaiians are polynesians, not asians. Too many japanese, filipinos, and now koreans "invading" that beautiful island paradiese. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm just saying what I think. When I first arrived in Hawaii in the early 80s, I was so shocked and very disappointed to see so many asians there.

  • @okesaita ~ Kanaka Maoli are disappearing because of this. These locals do this to make money not to connect with there ancestors. They are born and raised to do this because this is what tourist pay for. Only people that perform Native American chants/dances on the mainland are Native or at least part....Would be funny to see a bunch of white or black people acting like Natives : )

  • @jasonapotts Yeah, I know. :(

  • @okesaita Wow. So it's okay if you to "Invade" but not Asian people? typical American exceptionalist bullshit attitude.

  • @okesaita somebody smarttalking....

  • @okesaita That would be called "Pure Bloods" But so you mean i not Hawaiian cause i not pure? If that's the case FUCK YOU This "Non-Hawaiian" in your terms: Was Born & Raised in KEAUKAHA HOMESTEAD HILO, HAWAII 96720......You can google it.... (;
