I think in some part, maybe large or small, is caused by poor diet more specifically from drinking a lot of soda, whether it's caffeinated or not, diet or not. I know a few people who are supposedly bipolar, and don't take their medication, but all they ever drink is soda and they rarely eat anything. One of them even smokes a lot too. Lots of psychoactive chemicals there.
If Lincoln had the opportunity to have proper medications, he probably would have not been assassinated. His thinking would have been so much better and he would foresaw the danger.
I don't know what to make of this guy. I spent most of my life jacked up until I was diagnosed Bipolar and treated. I still have highs and lows, but not nearly the destructive behavior that I exhibited before! I hate taking medicine and dealing with it, but it;'s better than being a freaking psycho like I used to be!
@ellillydope so true i was diagnosed with marijuana induced phsycosis and put on rispiridol which caused me to have the exact symptoms of what they were trying to treat yet all that was wrong was i had severe mental breakdown due to lack of sleep and stress and after i was off the meds and fully normal they still tried to send me to clinic to put me on anti phsycotics after i was released due to having no signs of what they wanted to teet
Bipolar disorder is not caused by medications in children, it is triggered by them. If bipolar is not real, explain the fact that much of these children have it in their family history. Many of these children would probably be fine until they hit an older age and something stressful caused it to surface. Take these kids off their meds and their bipolar will not go away. Observe them in their 20's without meds, you would be a fool to say they simply exhibit extreme behaviors .
I would do anything to get rid of my bipolar disorder. My bipolar depression experience is that of having the flu, muscle aches, heightened sensitivity to light and sound, headache, confusion, inability to make decisions or concentrate. How do you explain the suicide rate of bipolars? You are a contributor to stigma, which keeps people from getting help that need it. As far as I am concerned, you have their blood on your hands. Why dont you use your "so called" degree to help someone?
@marleneelyse I totally agree with you and I to have a bipolar condition that makes me feel all sore, with muscle aches and heightened sensitivity to light. the good news is, I am on two new medications and I am feeling better that I have in about 10 years. This so called Psychologist,. is a fucking QUACK. He is not educated in the field of medications, he can't even prescribe medications. He is a joke, a left over Hippy Dippy acid dropping FREAK left over from the 60's
what does this guy think about mental telepathy and spiritual turbulence? I have found psychiatrists always tend to keep quiet when it comes to thigns like mental telepathy which does exist yet they immediatly label somebody as hearing voices form other realms as whacko. some buildings have a history of spiritual turbulence. psychiatrist will deny the existance of supernatural occurences. im not saying their is ghosts but i think we can communicate telepathy but not controlled
I don't like how casual he is about this...I get the feeling that he really does not believe that this illness is valid....it making sick....goodbye......I can not listen to you anymore.....
This is self righteous garbage. Come and live in my Bi Polar shoes, just for one day and tell me to drink more water to solve the problem. It will never work! I bet your one of these cretin's who doesn't believe in vaccinating kids as well.
Its so easy to judge and persecute humans with tools that dont tell us exactly whats going on with the brain and how it works with the mind. The mor we dig holes into path ways that are not truly understood, which of corse costs more money in therap and less money in pharmocology) the worse it will get.Understanding from a post of observation without harsh judgement or pre concepts from badly educated profeesionals is essential to a reveiw in the development of our understanding in MENTAL HEALTH.
labels create behaviour which in turn can produce neurological changes. The human mind and body is a continous on-going process of adapting to environment in order to survive. Anyone can be conditioned to do anything almost. Is it not possible that the patients in the experiment have been conditioned by psychiatrists and drugs to create this anomaly in their brains? I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle, science has a part to play but I would never believe it as gospel.
maybe the majority are just sheep(for a good reason) and the minority have bipolar, which means they can either radically shift the world with their ideas or go mad with no-one understanding them.
That is my theory, but I would still rather be a sheep than go down the very dangerous road of bipolar.
if you got it you know, your life is in shambles, homelessness, addiction etc. it.'s easy to say it is mind over matter, but its really not being able to cope on this planet so you go within
he's 100 percent right on the thyroid / bi polar thing. twelve years of not being able to find the right meds for my bi polar was cured with one pill every morning after meeting an endo that had been practicing for over forty years and understood my symptoms were hashimotos . 17 medications including 1200 mg of seroquel each night ===now i take 118mcg levothyroxine each morning
well the more psychiatrists there are the more they have to diagnose to keep a job, write more scripts, keep the drug companies happy and their pockets full.
It's easy to stand on the other side of the fence and comment on the grass but you wont know what it feels like until you leap the fence and feel it under your toe's . I have the bipolar condition which is fairly mild now and i enjoy my life due to medication . I dont have a PHd Doctrine from some fancy university , however i live with this disorder every day and i embrace all of the goods things it can do for me . I walk on that grass, thats on the other side of the fence ........
@TheWezid Exactly!!! My ex-wife is bi-polar. And she is rich. And extremely violent in her mood swings and severely depressed despite all the medications and therapy. And the best part is the psycho is raising our kids. And if anybody isupset with me calling her a psycho, she literally testified to "punching, kicking, biting, throwing, me and the kids" for years during and after the marriage. But she's also a connected attorney and got sole custody despite me being a great involved dad.
Funny how that guy has a Ph.D. and i see ALOT of people in the comments who know more on the subject than this guy does proclaiming it as a "trend" and a "missing link". It's rusted-minds like these that stop progress and come up with proper solutions, instead discarding it as something which it is not and denying the issue.
He's totally full of crap, I've seen people with bipolar disorder. Granted, there may be some that are diagnosed that are just being children, but people really do have this disorder. It exists. It's not a freaking trend.
I was just in the mental hospital for suiciside, they told me i need medication, i told them with respect, i have no ilness, just a broken heart. i do not take medication now, cause its all about yourself, don't let people tell you need medicine. Look inyourself, and there is always a way, and if anybody ever just wants a friend to talk to feel free to email and will help u with what i can while also on my road to my own recovery
sorry but drugs do not always work or help. and yeah drugs are over prescribed. the drugs r dangerous!.i wish there was more research in herbs .real bipolar is not brought on by drugs. and cant always be treated w/drugs.it does exist tho.i fell like it is over diagnosed .The doctors want to hang a label on the patient.
There's a small and excellent online depression support group called Depression Hangout that is always open to anyone who is struggling with mental health problems (not just depression). It's run in its own chaotic way by its members who meet regularly in the chat room and it's a great place to seek and provide help and support, make new friends and even just have a laugh. (We all need that too!) To join just go to depressionhangout-dot-blogspot-dot-com.
So called schizophrenia? What does that mean? Were you going to trash Kay Redfield Jamison? Some of what you say is true but if you talk bipolars off of their meds and pretend it's make believe then you're a fkn idiot. Matter of fact, I'll go with fkn idiot for you.
@MyTouched Brain dsyfunctions... ADD , ADHD , DEPRESSION, schizophrenia, BIPOLAR are seriously BULLSHIT! where was that diagnosis Before technology ,What we eat could cause the systoms but I believe it's all theory and his Proff so he knows what's his talking about ! U the idiot btw u dont have mental illness ..... Money , people will make up the biggest load of nonsense to get it. What is it with people and branding things to explain the oddness of humanbeings, who is normal?
Can anyone awnser this: I went to the doctor because I thought I was bipolar but the doctor says he thinks im just depressed. Was on and off sick claim twice. And then beginning to get a constant feeling that Government is after me. and refuses to go back to the doctor.
it's unbelievable how long this man talks about nothing..before he comes to something., then ducks and never seem to get to his point. I guess this is how he gets around.
@MrNetZip you may start showing paranoid symptoms, i talk from experience. just try and think about how and why would the government be after you? theres almost 6 billion people in the world, why would they be after you? calm down. and if you feel like losing control ask for help, mostly to people around you. dont keep quiet.
@waypor1 I like that one mate. I feel like that but feel extremely lonely in my search for truth. Michael Tsarion references Carl Jung's work in this way.
after having been on these meds for about two.half yrs now..have been through years of physical and sexual abuse.. im 24.. i also apparntly have bpd.. for sure have had bulimia for 12yrs..im not thin..im drink alot... i dont wanna b part of the problem but.. what does one do..im going to treatment for the first time.. ive always drank lots of water.. and i sleep ALOT because of my seroquel dosage..im literally leaving in 10 days..so glad i cam across this..opened my eyes to some important issues
wow thats like me for sure.. add.. meds when i was a kid cuz i was too energetic and social .. and couldnt sit still i wanted to talk and play or w.e.. i got put on that about 12.. but only for about three months cuz my mom was like noo im not giving my kid this anymore...things got wayyy worse..we flushed all my meds down the toilet.. after that i was almost insane at times...wow now im on seroqeul..and zoloft.. but it makes sense to me how ive lost all my passion... and almost feel worse
it's very easy to believe what consensus believe. most people will never veer from this consensus reality but there have been some throughout the ages who've campaigned against the popular held misconceptions of their age in the name of truth.
Psychiatry has made millions off of using the label bi-polar . Thats what it's all about , right ? IF the pshrink could help somebody with a little simple encouragement good or IF the pshrink could give somebody a Label and a choice of pills . More people end up being fed . All because of one simple little label and pshrinks have lots of simple little labels that they voted on .
I know someone that "used to be a friend" and I can't get him to take medication so I had to disengage with him and now he's really going on the deep end and I've called the police and the police won't take is his weapons away and he has a gun permit and has manic episodes where he can lose control and get violent. The police tell me to call mental health hospital and the hospital says to call the police.Does anyone know what I can possible do to keep him from going on a rampage.
working on my doctoral thesis, I had highs & lows. during winter break, my parents had me go to a DR who after 1 test said I was bi-polar & wanted me to take a bunch of meds. I refused & my parents & this doctor had me Baker-acted. They made me take meds & they changed my way of thinking & now I have dropped out of school. I can't think the way I did. I am angry & hope my brain will goback to the way it was. This is dull & uninspired & I hate everyday now >.<
I am a college student diagnosed as Bipolar. While you made some excellent points in this video, especially the examples of children on uncessary/dangerous medication, I think you need to also realize that Bipolar Disorder can be very real.
Changes in diet, exercise, sleep, vitamins, and so on are beneficial. But still, sometimes it really is a disease. I am a competative NCAA runner, eat healthy, take vitamins, sleep 8 hours a night, yet my meds and my God are what really balance me out :).
I suggest 100% Cure Rate for Bipolar any type of Depression if You get the Proper type and Proper Amount of MAGNESIUM.
They been Leaving Magnesium out of Fertilizer for over 80 Years, Soil is Depleted, Cows without Magnesium Blocks will die if they grazz New Grass after a Frost

I have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and I do believe that it is VERY serious. I have at different times in my life been very suicidal and homicidal throughout my teenage life. Yes I have been on many medications, but there is no doctor out there that can just know exactly what you need. That doesn't mean to stop medication. I have tried other things... diet & exercise, therapy, coping groups, ect. I have not found anything that helps me more than my meds. It is a constant battle and is REAL!!
Been on the planet 43yrs,,well just..lol.had BP symptoms probably 20yrs,ues to self medicate for yrs drugs/booze,,,my evaluation now is this isn't a "disease" our brains are healthy but in MRI are too "active "in parts,I for one know my abusive upbringing, selfish lovers, ex husband+more importantly becoming very phys ill,,thesse were my triggers,1 day I just snapped+tried to overdose.I'm moving away for my "sanity" its THEY around me who are barking mad,I KNOW ME,but do they?,,lol thanks Sophie
good nutrition and excercise is the best medication for curing any psychological disorder. What you eat is the fuel that drives you. Crappy food = crappy feeling.
Theres been cases where children with (ADHD) simply had their diets changed and sure enough there behaviour changed for the better...

Thankfully, I am finally 6 months free/sober of 'medications' after 10 years.
Ages 15-25 and several labels. I am so happy, healthy, free, and I enjoy good peer relationships, reading, I am in love with a wonderful man, I love running through the woods, and I am painting unlike ever before.
Thank you Dr. Breeding, from the bottom of my heart.

Yeah I had unspecified chest pains as a child, so they gave me a bunch of chest x-rays 45-50 yrs ago. Now I wonder what the hell they might have done to me. In 20 yrs we'll have people wondering what medicine might have put them through in the 80's thru 2010.
ADHD? Try having smaller class size, instead of one teacher for 28-31 kids, and see if the kids do better with more and better attention form the teachers. Jesus what a country we live in. There's money for drugs, but no money for teachers. An outrage.
I personally was diagnosed in 1995 as a high school student. I'd never had ADHD and no history of mental health issues. I did, however, have the symptoms that classify bipolar from schizophrenia or mood disorders. I've abstained from medication for the last 15 years, using alternative methods for treatment. October 2009 I had an extreme psychotic episode that resulted in my losing my job and a long recuperation. Now I'm learning about traditional medication and participating in counseling.
After I moved to MI, I saw a doctor for migraines. He asked me How I came to live in MI and i explained that my daughter lived here, the result of a long distance relationship. The doctor then asked if I usually "up and leave my home and move to another state" i said "i didn't 'up and move'" but he said "i think you are bi-polar" and prescribed a mood stabilizer. He effectively took an act of love and responsibility for my baby girl and turned it into a brain defect. I never saw that quack again
Reeding, is every mental disorder a function of psychiatric drugs ?
I liked a few of your videos, but get real. I doubt a large percentage of "bipolar" cases were the result of medication to treat other mental illnesses. IT MAKES NO SENSE
There is pathological evidence to prove that bipolar is real. Most people with it self medicate before they get legal prescriptions.
I would take meds if my illness was bad enough to effect my life, and I wouldn't if it was well managed differently.
I am beginning to think it is better to just give up than to try meds. Nobody can stand to be around me for more than a week. I'm 37 and I don't want to be alone anymore. I don't know what to do about this...dammed if you do, dammed if you don't
The diagnosed as 'bipolar' people I have met in my life have all been VERY smart people, genius in fact :)
They are extra sensitive people, I love to hear their philosophy, they FEEL more than the average person, a LOT more and they actually have a CONSCIENCE :) and can be very selfless individuals and VERY VERY caring.
If you resist, suppress, or demonize "bipolar" you will never heal. The healing process is often painful and more than a few of us have undergone severely painful experiences that society tells us to shut up about. Psychiatrists seem to have succeeded when they are able to dull the *behavior* of a person, but they do this exclusively through the use of prescription drugs which amount to no more than a chemical lobotomy. I'll chose my own drugs, thank you ;-)
i can agree with him on one point, however the manifestations of bipolar disorder are real, i've seen a lot of people that really fit the profile, and a lot of people using it as an excuse.
very true, its a very complex thing to understand because you have to talk to how the person sees things. im sure that u have felt symptoms through your life outside of manic phases. its a cycle of things.
i have been battleing biplor type one since i was a child now im 22.. and i can tell you honestly it is a very hard thing to go through people often say that medication works but not for me
@clinicalpsychology22 I have combination schizophrenia and rapid cycling (bi-polar). That means one moment I could be musing on my toilet making faces out of the wrinkles on the shower curtain or making faces out of raindrops, cobwebs, smudges, etc. I get a bit more catatonic than paranoid, but I still get extremely nervous in crowded public places. I just wish people wouldn't look at me and mind their own fucking business.
I know you understand me than...not to sound crazy or anything.. but I hallucinatine all the time..I often talk to myself and talk loud looking at walls like someone is there..when im in that state of mind..im not even aware of what im doing then I snap out of it..when I get distracted..I been doing this for many years..there not a day that goes by where i dont hallucinate...
Don't cite Lincoln. His unnecessary war freed no one. It caused the deaths of 620,000 Americans, maimed millions, and destroyed 40% of Dixie's economy.
This guy is the psychological equivalent of a holocaust denier.
I too want to punch him in the face, and if he saw a few bipolar patients instead of look at outward, anecdotal data, then he would certainly pull his head out of his ass.
How can you explain people not sleeping for 3 days straight, taking a cat nap, and repeating the process for months. That is not normally possible! there is something biologically wrong there. I've experienced it first hand (not as severe), I should know.
I agree with children taking medication.. I'm 28 and self medicate with alcohol.. 1 gallon of 80 proof whiskey every couple 3 days is my average. ontop of the alcohol I'd cut and burn myself when I'm sober to get relief. may sound alittle weird to you all but for me I cant "cope" with it thus I sought out medical advice and so far .. drugs haven't worked 100%. but I have only been taking them for 3 weeks now the suicidal thoughts have mostly gone. but the anxiety and self hate is still there.
Actually lincoln was noted as a famous DEPRESSIVE. If lincoln were to see a psychiatrist today, they may or may not consider him bipolar but it is certain that his severe depressions would have been the focus of t reatment. And, I think, if lincoln could have treated those debilitating depressions, he probably would have liked to. I have never heard of lincoln referred to as afflicted with mania. Having revolutionary ideas is not mania. Being psychotic and nonfunctional is mania.
I believe we should be wary of giving drugs to the very young, however, I feel that way about all drugs. I would never go to this guy for anything - ever. Those who think BPD is simply about being happy and sad are absolutely mistaken. People with BPD can have total breaks with reality i.e. crazy - experiencing hallucinations and delusions. Their mood swings can be so great as to be manic and suicidal within the same hour. Try talking to someone having pressured speech.
yeah my problem is that there is no chemical test 2 tell if someone is bipolar or not other than a multi choice quiz ie no brain scan/ blood test [ as far as im aware]
If you look up John Medina (personal website)... under "publications" there is an article he wrote about using genetic markers to determine if bipolar is evident via blood test. I'm quite positive he is of a reputable source.
Prescribing drugs to children unnecessarily is very wrong. Speaking in absolutist terms is also wrong. This man cannot prove that all bipolar cases are psychology-related alone. His example where 100% of the subjects were already prescribed drugs before developing bipolar is obviously not a balanced representation. To say that 100% of all bipolar patients were on meds before going manic is a ridiculous statement. I'm not defending the drug industry, I'm just saying "Think For Yourself".
I know a kid who controlled his so called bi-polar disorder by drawing pictures and writing rap lyrics he still had episodes but he made a quantum leap in in his behavior during the six months I knew him.
thank fuck someone agrees with me the bipolar is horseshit, it really annoys me that these people r surposed 2 get s'pecial attention' bcos they cant control there moods, someone in school slaped me across the face and got away with it bcos they were 'bipolar' in actual fact they were a twat lol
Kid, think before you speak ok. The number of bipolar people who commit suicide each year is huge. If you don't know the pain and distress this disorder can cause, then quite frankly you have zero right to an opinion.
people kill themselves anyway? wether they're bipolar or not? gay people kill themselves, teens kill themselves, the reason is irrelevant really, + btw i've been depressed and then i've been really hyper, just like everyone else on the planet, some people probably r a bit more extreame than others, but to giv it a name and 'solve' the problem by filling someone up with pills is INSANE.
@TuRdSandwitch18 Clearly you do not understand the complexity of bipolar. Sufferers are not merely hyper, they engage in risky behaviour, have delusions, feelings of grandiosity and wake up the next morning depressive which can be equally as dangerous causing extreme feelings of low self worth, anger, etc. Bipolar carries a 13% suicide rate, that's to high to discount. Look at charlie cheen - grandiosity, risk taking behaviour, feeling on top of the world, drug use hes textbook manic.
@SibbyOrourke The lady interviewing Charlie Sheen was far more of a nutbag than sheen. She is a brainwashed robot that she feels give her the right to judge and condemn Sheen. Sheen is not judging or condemning anyone. The people who feel the god given right to judge and condemn are really the crazy ones like urself. But shhh, its a big secret that only the elites who control the world are aware of.
@JacobsJaffa "She is a brainwashed robot." Excuse me if I'm wrong, but is that not you judging her? Couldn't be, that would just be hypocritical. From someone who lives with a person with bipolar, he seems a textbook case to me.
@SibbyOrourke U missed my point. She was interviewing him from a position of judgement, what gave her that right? And please think very carefully before u answer.
Your words "textbook case" just confirm ur reliance on "the system"
I understand ur need to rely on the system if u live with someone who is bipolar. But in my opinion bipolar is a myth that is used by others to understand someone elses behaviour to protect their own sanity.
@JacobsJaffa Everyone judges everyone, it's human nature, sad but true. Either way it doesn't have much to do with the issue at hand. There are neurological differences in people with Bipolar such as a 30% increase in grey matter, particularly in the areas effecting memory and decision making, so it's not just a blanket term to explain peoples behaviour. There are actual differences in brain chemisty and thus how their minds function.
"Everyone judges everyone, it's human nature, sad but true" I dont think its sad, because its part of our human animal defense system, it is sad in the sense that we are not aware that we are only judging to protect ourselves. I would be very careful before I accept the brain chemistry theory if I were you, as the brain is the least understood of all the organs by science. New studies have just been released that state Einsteins and Newtons active creativity mimics schizophrenia
@JacobsJaffa It was actually Aspergers syndrome Einstein and Newtons brain activity mimics. While causing social difficulties Aspergers can also have benefits. Those with the syndrome often having above average intellegence and one charecteristic of the syndrome is the fixation on a limited amount of topics, which is beneficial in the persuit of science. There are neurological difference between people with Bipolar, such as the presence of 30% more grey matter than usual. It's not just a label.
@Sibby "Bipolar means 30% more grey matter." I never 100% believe flat scientific "facts" like that. The human mind and body is so complex science could never fully understand it. Im sure in the experiment in question they were the results, but I promise you anomalies exist, just like with every scientific experiment ever conducted. For example I promise you there are people out there with 30% more grey matter that are not bipolar. Do you believe that is possible?
@JacobsJaffa I think even if it didn't make them bipolar, it would at least see some sort of effect, and definatly predispose them to the disorder. A possible explanation for the genetic link? There have been numerous studies done all showing abnormalities such as brain tissue loss after episodes making the condition progressive if not properly managed.
@SibbyOrourke you obviously come from a scientific background which I respect. I do see the purpose of science in trying to help. But do you think there is a whole "grey" area about bipolar where the diagnosis and medication could make symptoms worse as opposed to someone who was never diagnosed in the first place? excuse the pun.
@JacobsJaffa My science expertise extends to a highschool biology class and a general interest in the subject so I'm certainly no expert. But I've seen medication work wonders and make peoples lives a lot more bareable. On the medication they function perfectly, take it a few hours late and they grow anxious, unreasonable, paranoid, not to mention angry. Don't find yourself in rush hour traffic with someone who forgot their meds haha. Learnt that yesterday.
@TuRdSandwitch18 People with bipolar have 30% more grey matter, particularly in the areas of the brain responsible for memory and decision making. Acting like it's just trying to put a label on strange behaviours is just plain ignorant. Having been depressed doesn't make you an expert on the topic. It's not simply depression and hyperactivity. Bipolar I sufferers experience psychosis, 13% of those with bipolar commit suicide, that's no coincidence when you consider the torment they suffer.
@SibbyOrourke So 13% of the population that was expected to potentially kill themselves actually killed themselves. What about the rest of the population that has not been diagnosed with anything? How many of those people killed themselves? Were they normal because they were undiagnosed, or were they "mentally ill", but just undiagnosed?
@HelloAgain151 Many people with bipolar go undiagnosed, as it is a difficult and lengthy process to diagnose as a history of mania and depression needs to be observed. And no, they weren't normal because they were undiagnosed, why would a person kill themselves unless they were depressed, whether due to their environment and lifestyle or a mental disorder. You're view point on this seems closed minded. Clearly you've never had much to do with someone with bipolar. I live with one.
@SibbyOrourke I agree with you completely, in the sense that I think you maybe perhaps missed my point, but it doesn't matter...........also, I have been diagnosed as having bipolar by 4 different pdocs, so......in your last statement, you're the one who seems a bit closed minded. And presumptuous. I'm just asking questions and seeking other points of view on diagnoses. Sometimes I get sick of hearing "You are this, and you are that, and our statistics show that you are likely to blah blah blah"
@1388dimevader I suspect I've got septupular disreorder type IIX with comorbid hypercycling delusions of robotosity....I'm ahead of the game like that.
i cycle everyday on meds. i have suicidal thoughts and dep with in 2 -4hrs. if i could shoot some dome ass people and get away with it i would. or ill be locked up i my house for days or hours wanting to take my life . bipolar sucks.
I find Dr. John Breeding's "so called" extreme states of mind philosophy too simplistic an approach. I do find some of what he says very good and true and respect him challenging the drug only treatments. I think it's important to use any and all methods and treatments necessary to function, survive and thrive.
I was diagnosed bipolar when i was 9 i was on a combination of drugs that either made everything worse or just didnt work at all. I stopped taking my medication 3 years ago because of that...i also found and started using cannabis. In my opiniont is the best mood stabilizer on earth, its natural and way better for you than the drugs the doctors shove down your throat...ppl need to be like me and become educated, not medicated.
haha man if I only knew you..i been bipolar type one since i was a child..and i tried many medications..and i started with cannabis..and i 100% agree with you that its the only thing that worked for me...people who have bipolar are more prone to insomnia and cannabis helps me with that to..haha you took the words right out of my mouth..lol
Dr. Breeding has some ideas I think are just plain wrong, BUT he's not trying to sell you anything and although he represents an extreme view on one side of the spectrum, all you'll hear from psychiatrists and therapists nowadays is MEDICATION CHACHACHA... they're an institution that is set in it's ways and they'll take your money with offerings of false hope, then turn their backs on you when it turns out their suggestions didn't work
THIS GUY IS DANGEROUS! Though his opinions may apply to a small percent of cases he is doing real damage to the mental health community by applying his logic to the majority. I sure hope a vulnerable person isn't persuaded by this "Doctor" to stop taking their medication. This guy is professionally reckless!
I couldn't agree more! I'm bipolar and meds saved my life. It took years to work out the right combination and those years were living hell with countless suicide attempts and so much reckless behaviour. But once I got it right, my life was great again, I'm normal. I have a job, can make decisions, live regularly and most of all, I'm happy! This guy is destructive with what he's saying. The illness is REAL and needs TREATMENT. How dare he. I know the lows and the highs and they are hell.
That sounds like me too. I'm bipolar and it took years to get the right combonation of drugs.....actually right now I am just on lithium. It was hard for a few years and I tried committing suicide many times....but you can get a life again with a little luck and a lot of work.
thank you so much for responding! i have bipolar as well (sry this is random, but i read a book that said like instead of saying "am bipolar" it can help to say "i have bipolar because like, you wouldnt say "john is cancer" anyway, that helped me, because i knew that it there's hope and it wouldnt consume my life :) sorry, i dont mean to criticize, its just something thats helped me but ya. its great to hear that i'm' not the only person who thinks this guy is crazy!
(hopefully my last post showed up..) but anyway, thank you so much for posting your story. reading it has helped to hear that there's like, hope. I can definitely relate to how its just paralyzing because I'm a college student and basically had to drop all of my classes this year. but thank you so much, it is really a blessing to be reminded that it can get better
Actually, it is the psychiatrists who are the dangerous ones. They DO NOT know what meds to use and merely use patients as a chemical dartboard until something sticks.
I was diagnosed bipolar 17 years ago. I tried the meds for 7 years. Most made me sicker or crazier than I already was.
Then I discovered that a dietary change could make a difference and I tried it. Within ONE WEEK I was stable, clear-headed, happy and sleeping regularly. And this has worked for everyone I know who tried it
The Czars of normal have decreed that all behaviors, no mater how necessary to emotional and physiological growth, should be controlled using drugs.
If a kid is intellectually higher than his class -and he therefore finds the school material boring do to its lack of challenge- the school will diagnose him as ADD, simply because he's staring off into space or doodling pictures.

Why dont you use your "so called" degree to help someone?

what does this guy think about mental telepathy and spiritual turbulence? I have found psychiatrists always tend to keep quiet when it comes to thigns like mental telepathy which does exist yet they immediatly label somebody as hearing voices form other realms as whacko. some buildings have a history of spiritual turbulence. psychiatrist will deny the existance of supernatural occurences. im not saying their is ghosts but i think we can communicate telepathy but not controlled

Its so easy to judge and persecute humans with tools that dont tell us exactly whats going on with the brain and how it works with the mind. The mor we dig holes into path ways that are not truly understood, which of corse costs more money in therap and less money in pharmocology) the worse it will get.Understanding from a post of observation without harsh judgement or pre concepts from badly educated profeesionals is essential to a reveiw in the development of our understanding in MENTAL HEALTH.
mikevern69 8 months ago
labels create behaviour which in turn can produce neurological changes.

The doctor then asked if I usually "up and leave my home and move to another state" i said "i didn't 'up and move'" but he said "i think you are bi-polar" and prescribed a mood stabilizer.

Try talking to someone having pressured speech.
wilray6453 2 years ago
the people who are labeled BPD are the people who go crazy or "manic" over their problems and don't know how to handle it.
NotTheDon 2 years ago
people go through problems and go a bit crazy or 'manic' y not just get over it? plus where's the proof that this shit is real?

yeah my problem is that there is no chemical test 2 tell if someone is bipolar or not other than a multi choice quiz ie no brain scan/ blood test [ as far as im aware]
TuRdSandwitch18 1 year ago
If you look up John Medina (personal website)... under "publications" there is an article he wrote about using genetic markers to determine if bipolar is evident via blood test. I'm quite positive he is of a reputable source.
frogglegs2007 1 year ago

TuRdSandwitch18 2 years ago
Kid, think before you speak ok. The number of bipolar people who commit suicide each year is huge. If you don't know the pain and distress this disorder can cause, then quite frankly you have zero right to an opinion.
peaceDal 2 years ago
people kill themselves anyway? wether they're bipolar or not? gay people kill themselves, teens kill themselves, the reason is irrelevant really, + btw i've been depressed and then i've been really hyper, just like everyone else on the planet, some people probably r a bit more extreame than others, but to giv it a name and 'solve' the problem by filling someone up with pills is INSANE.
TuRdSandwitch18 2 years ago 2

JacobsJaffa 8 months ago
@JacobsJaffa "She is a brainwashed robot." Excuse me if I'm wrong, but is that not you judging her? Couldn't be, that would just be hypocritical. From someone who lives with a person with bipolar, he seems a textbook case to me.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@SibbyOrourke U missed my point. She was interviewing him from a position of judgement, what gave her that right? And please think very carefully before u answer.
Your words "textbook case" just confirm ur reliance on "the system"
I understand ur need to rely on the system if u live with someone who is bipolar. But in my opinion bipolar is a myth that is used by others to understand someone elses behaviour to protect their own sanity.
JacobsJaffa 8 months ago
@JacobsJaffa Everyone judges everyone, it's human nature, sad but true. Either way it doesn't have much to do with the issue at hand. There are neurological differences in people with Bipolar such as a 30% increase in grey matter, particularly in the areas effecting memory and decision making, so it's not just a blanket term to explain peoples behaviour. There are actual differences in brain chemisty and thus how their minds function.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@SibbyOrourke
JacobsJaffa 8 months ago
@JacobsJaffa It was actually Aspergers syndrome Einstein and Newtons brain activity mimics. While causing social difficulties Aspergers can also have benefits. Those with the syndrome often having above average intellegence and one charecteristic of the syndrome is the fixation on a limited amount of topics, which is beneficial in the persuit of science. There are neurological difference between people with Bipolar, such as the presence of 30% more grey matter than usual. It's not just a label.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@Sibby "Bipolar means 30% more grey matter." I never 100% believe flat scientific "facts" like that. The human mind and body is so complex science could never fully understand it. Im sure in the experiment in question they were the results, but I promise you anomalies exist, just like with every scientific experiment ever conducted. For example I promise you there are people out there with 30% more grey matter that are not bipolar. Do you believe that is possible?
JacobsJaffa 8 months ago
@JacobsJaffa I think even if it didn't make them bipolar, it would at least see some sort of effect, and definatly predispose them to the disorder. A possible explanation for the genetic link? There have been numerous studies done all showing abnormalities such as brain tissue loss after episodes making the condition progressive if not properly managed.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@SibbyOrourke you obviously come from a scientific background which I respect. I do see the purpose of science in trying to help. But do you think there is a whole "grey" area about bipolar where the diagnosis and medication could make symptoms worse as opposed to someone who was never diagnosed in the first place? excuse the pun.
JacobsJaffa 8 months ago
@JacobsJaffa My science expertise extends to a highschool biology class and a general interest in the subject so I'm certainly no expert. But I've seen medication work wonders and make peoples lives a lot more bareable. On the medication they function perfectly, take it a few hours late and they grow anxious, unreasonable, paranoid, not to mention angry. Don't find yourself in rush hour traffic with someone who forgot their meds haha. Learnt that yesterday.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@TuRdSandwitch18 People with bipolar have 30% more grey matter, particularly in the areas of the brain responsible for memory and decision making. Acting like it's just trying to put a label on strange behaviours is just plain ignorant. Having been depressed doesn't make you an expert on the topic. It's not simply depression and hyperactivity. Bipolar I sufferers experience psychosis, 13% of those with bipolar commit suicide, that's no coincidence when you consider the torment they suffer.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@SibbyOrourke So 13% of the population that was expected to potentially kill themselves actually killed themselves. What about the rest of the population that has not been diagnosed with anything? How many of those people killed themselves? Were they normal because they were undiagnosed, or were they "mentally ill", but just undiagnosed?
HelloAgain151 8 months ago
@HelloAgain151 Many people with bipolar go undiagnosed, as it is a difficult and lengthy process to diagnose as a history of mania and depression needs to be observed. And no, they weren't normal because they were undiagnosed, why would a person kill themselves unless they were depressed, whether due to their environment and lifestyle or a mental disorder. You're view point on this seems closed minded. Clearly you've never had much to do with someone with bipolar. I live with one.
SibbyOrourke 8 months ago
@SibbyOrourke I agree with you completely, in the sense that I think you maybe perhaps missed my point, but it doesn't matter...........also, I have been diagnosed as having bipolar by 4 different pdocs, so......in your last statement, you're the one who seems a bit closed minded. And presumptuous. I'm just asking questions and seeking other points of view on diagnoses. Sometimes I get sick of hearing "You are this, and you are that, and our statistics show that you are likely to blah blah blah"

In my opiniont is the best mood stabilizer on earth, its natural and way better for you than the drugs the doctors shove down your throat...ppl need to be like me and become educated, not medicated.
peace n pot.

haha man if I only knew you..i been bipolar type one since i was a child..and i tried many medications..and i started with cannabis..and i 100% agree with you that its the only thing that worked for me...people who have bipolar are more prone to insomnia and cannabis helps me with that to..haha you took the words right out of my mouth..lol

@4realimjared cannabis can causes depresion and when you get in depresion you have chance to get manic after...

This guy is professionally reckless!
sallyjessyraphael 2 years ago
I couldn't agree more! I'm bipolar and meds saved my life. It took years to work out the right combination and those years were living hell with countless suicide attempts and so much reckless behaviour. But once I got it right, my life was great again, I'm normal. I have a job, can make decisions, live regularly and most of all, I'm happy! This guy is destructive with what he's saying. The illness is REAL and needs TREATMENT. How dare he. I know the lows and the highs and they are hell.
sdean281081 2 years ago

Did you ever try to change your diet?
I understand EXACTLY where you're coming from. I had the same experiences with bipolar. However, the meds didn't help me....just made things worse.
I got complete relief with no side effects from dietary change.
In many cases, a person who isn't bipolar is diagnosed as such simply so docs can make money off treatment.
ciaochowbella 2 years ago
may I ask what dietary changes did you make?
josemanuelsalgado 2 years ago
Actually, it is the psychiatrists who are the dangerous ones. They DO NOT know what meds to use and merely use patients as a chemical dartboard until something sticks.
I was diagnosed bipolar 17 years ago. I tried the meds for 7 years. Most made me sicker or crazier than I already was.
Then I discovered that a dietary change could make a difference and I tried it. Within ONE WEEK I was stable, clear-headed, happy and sleeping regularly. And this has worked for everyone I know who tried it
ciaochowbella 2 years ago 10
The Czars of normal have decreed that all behaviors, no mater how necessary to emotional and physiological growth, should be controlled using drugs.
If a kid is intellectually higher than his class -and he therefore finds the school material boring do to its lack of challenge- the school will diagnose him as ADD, simply because he's staring off into space or doodling pictures.
Im sighting the case of my brother.
