  • 02:15 ; best fucking part, when she puts her arm out & just the way she says the words [:

  • woah...

  • AWESOME arrangement,

(I don't have to mention BP's awesomeness since it's obvious)

  • Bernadette is brilliant. I adore her. No one inteprets Sondheim like her!!!!

  • This, as most of you know, is from Sunday In The Park With George. One of my favorite shows and she is wonderful, as always!!

  • I love this song and I love Bernadette.

  • this song, and Bernadettes singing of it, absolutely moves me to tears everytime I listen to it. So gorgeous.

  • I love the how song seems to start out at a climax, sustains that feeling, and then reaches an even better and more fulfilling one later on. I absolutely love this version.

  • BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Saw her in ALNM last week and she was wonderful!

  • This song completely sums up Sondheim's unique sound, don't you think? If I had to describe what Sondheim's music to someone, I would show them this song. Astounding stuff.

    BP of course, is perfect.

  • She is perfect, beautiful, and brings the character out. Instead of just singing the song, she seems to grasp the character by the shoulder and bring it to the audience on stage. This song can be used in so many situations in modern day life, and it's one of the most powerful songs Sondhiem has ever written. :D

  • Love this show...love this song....love Bernadette.

  • yes, mwp2paris. You said it best. She reveals the humanity that fuels and courses through Sondheim's writing. Uncovers. No ego...just soul. Attention must be paid. Brava.

  • Yeesh, dodgy old arrangement! How incredible would it have been if Mandy Patinkin had sauntered out on stage to join her? She is just extraordinary - what a voice, what a performance and what music.

  • Goregous voice and goregous everything.

  • Cover? This was & always will be Bernadette's song. 24 years later it's still her very own. Brava!

  • She turns covers into her own artwork! ♫ ♥

  • This arrangement is a bit strange, but Bernadette ALWAYS delivers. I can't WAIT to see her next May.

Also, on the topic of Mrs. Lovett: She would have knocked it out of the park. I've found Lupone to be irritating, Lansbury to be strange and kooky, and Bonham-Carter to be weak and lacking power or vocal emotion.

  • I agree. Sondheim himself has publicly called her flawless, whereas even Angela Lansbury would nearly run out of breath whenever she sang By the Sea. Peters, as we know, "can hold any note longer" ;)

  • Angela Lansbury was perfect as Mrs. Lovett. I love Bernadette too, but Mrs. Lovett is supposed to be breathless, strange and kooky. Bernadette's voice is too perfect for that part.

  • I'm not disagreeing with you at all, Angela is Queen. But she herself told Helena Bonham-Carter that she used to be breathless every night after that song.

  • Right, I meant strange and kooky in a good way! Haha! I love me some Lansbury!

  • Mark my words: Bernadette WILL play Lovett on Broadway! =P

  • @paigeemelia this is the perfect phrasing of my opinion. lol I may quote you.

  • Stupid freak! HAHA!

  • Don't like this arrangement at times...great song though, and gotta love her!

  • This is one of my all time favorite S.S. songs and one of my favorite of hers. I saw her in Providence, RI 2 years ago and she messed up the lyrics. There was a loud gasp in the audience and 3 rows in front of me were all looking back at ME! I couldn't believe I gasped out loud. I love, love, love her. She OWNS Broadway!

  • I saw Bernadette sing this last night live in Adelaide, South Australia. I never dreamed I'd see her sing it live - I was in the third row and every time she looked me way it was as though I was the only one she was singing to.

A truly great performer, a lovely person; videos can't do her justice. Videos can't do her justice, but this one is good.

  • opened up my eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Im dissappointed that she didnt do "and the light" high like it is sung....im afirad she shies away from things that are too high....like shes all chest voice and no opera....love her, dont get me wrong

  • She seems to shy away a lot, but when she reaches for those notes, she's spectacular. Such as in 'Unexpected Song,' and certain Into the Woods numbers.

  • I know what you mean-I saw her show and she did do the high part as well as in other songs. Maybe she was kind of raspy that day? lol...In fact, I was more impressed after the show because I didn't think she could sing that high.

  • Perhaps, but have you seen her performance of Later?

  • Bernadette Peters is seriously the most wonderful actress/singer I've ever seen/heard. I haven't heard her sing one song that I didn't immediately like. I haven't seen her in anything that I didn't like she was wonderful. She's completely and totally... well, awesome doesn't even describe it. She's my hero ^^

  • I was a student at the Actors Studio when she sang this song at the end of the students interview..I was so overcome by emotion as many students were that many of us shed some tears.I will always looove this song! And she is so wonderful at singing it! Will never forget that moment.

  • hello ur song is very nice

  • I watched Sunday In The Park With George YESTERDAY on here and now most of the videos are deleted from copyright infringement - wtf?! Oh well, at least I got to see Bernadette's beautiful performance in it once!

  • I love this woman. She is such an original!

  • I love her

she is so good in rita and runt

  • She doesnt shrink from singing "difficult" songs does she ?

No appeal in the melody for me but BP can carry it well.

  • I saw a few weeks ago-she is 60 and looks 30-her skin is amazing. She signed autographs at the stage door and was so gracious! A true, classy lady with a powerful voice. Her show was just like this, but more personable and tons more SONDHEIM. Wonderful!

  • OMG I didn't believe you when you wrote this... IT'S TRUE!!!! She really is that old. I would've never put her a day over 45. She just amazes me.

I want to see her as Mrs. Lovett. I think she would be amazing (and would probably win her another Tony)

  • You are right. Her Mrs. Lovett would probably be like Bonham-Carter's. I loved Patti Lupone's. Angela Lansbury, (I love and respect her dearly), was very irritating in that role. lol. But, Bernadette would be fabulous! If you ever get a chance to go to a book-signing or a show-just to see her skin--it's gorgeous!

  • Yeah, I couldn't believe she was 60!!!

  • she's AMAZING.

  • She's such a star..

    Magnificent.

    <3

  • 1998 In Concert : Live From Royal Festival Hall London

  • She's amazing!

  • Does anyone know what year this is? If it's recently, holy cow, she looks INCREDIBLE!! (b. 1948). Such a talent. Fun to see this.

  • Sennheiser wireless mic with Neumann KK105 capsule, Meyer UM-1P wedges on the floor in front of her.

    Within the last 3 years.

    Yes, I'm a sound guy. :)

  • it was done in the early 2000s i remember

being pretty young and being able to stay

up and watch this on tv & making sure it

    was taped and all.

  • wasn't this in the 80's???

  • Clear, wide, open -- thank you, Bernadette.

  • Ahhh Sunday. God, chills anyone?

  • Wow...

    I love this woman!!!

  • Yearr me too!

  • She is beautiful.

  • Bernadette Peters is amazing! I wish I could sing like her, she is so talented

  • You know when you get the chills and your eyes tear up when you hear something REALLY good? That just happened to me.

  • I will be in Chicago in 3 weeks and will stand, on Saturday, in front of Seurat's masterpiece and will try, once again, to take it all in...you can't. You walk from the Impressionist's Gallery down a corridor and then turn the corner and there it is, Sunday Afternoon on Le Grande Jatte, and it brings tears to my eyes everytime and this is the song I always play in my brain when I stand there for a full 30 minutes and just let it consume me. Sondheim created magic from breathtaking art. Fabulous.

  • my favorite broadway star ever!

  • I saw her at the McCallum Theatre last month and she was simply breathtaking. I would recommend seeing her live if you can. She sang this song, and it was so beautiful.

  • does anyone else think her hair is just as fabulous as her voice

  • yes don't know why people dont like red hair, probably because they dont have red hair.

  • It's like that messy style.

However you mess it up, it still looks great!

  • No one makes Sondheim seem more effortless than BP...to take amazingly difficult music and make it etheral. She is a national treasure.

  • @mwp2paris etheral isn't a word...

  • she is just so amazing its ridiculous!!!

  • i love her so much in annie! her performance really came to help me when i played lily st. regis in my secondary school production.

  • MY FAVE BERNADETTE PTERS SONG

  • beautiful

  • This is the best solo arrangement of "Move On" I've ever heard (even though I must admit BP isn't a favourite of mine), even better than Streisand's!

One of my students gave me an audio version of this a few years ago (which must have been recorded on a different night - and sounds much more natural) and I could't trace it until now! SO happy!

  • It was probably her Carnegie Hall performance that you heard the other recording from...another absolutely amazing night of music from Bernadette.

  • Where can I listen to that version to compare? Would really like to get it on CD but only if it's the one I have here on tape.

  • bernadette peters!!!!!!! the best!!!!! the godness!!!! spain loves you!!!! please, come here for a concert... or forever!!!!!

  • Bernadette....brilliance

  • There is something amazing about these talented people like Bernadette. And you can never get enough Broadway.

  • she looks incredible here! its her hair color as well just gorgous

  • i love Bernadette so much! she is just a goddess!

  • How long ago is this?

  • this was from London's Royal Festival Hall, 1998

  • Long live Bernadette. She's a genius!

  • It's strange to see this sung without a George!

But it is still so amazing. Bernadette = <3.

  • when was this?

  • omigosh--

Thank you so much for posting this!

    This is brilliant.

  • simply incredible, thanks for putting this up!!

  • Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing this.
