i'm sorry Robert but without Page, you just don't nail the zeppelin classics. i dont know who your guitar player was but he's like nails on a chalkboard and alison must be tone-deaf to think she is in the correct key originally done by Denny.
Love how Robert Plant can go on stage with what seems like absolutely no makeup, hairstyling or anything done to him, with street clothes, no autotuning and still delivers performances as totally amazing as he did 40 years ago!!!! <3
yeh, soldierboy, caught that 2 years ago, but really, seems less time than she was playing with Union Station here on Queen street in toronto, really, time does fly. Love to hear her again, though, kind of lost touch, we used to know each other from that scene. She is a consumate musician, and a master of all she tries.
Allison and Robert are a perfect match ! They both have separate qualities that totally compliment each other !!! Who would have ever thought ?? AWESOME !!
If you want to see an amazing version of this song that comes close to this--look up the Wilson Sisters. Ann Wilson sings LZ with amazing ability, they've covered LZ forever. There's one version that Ann does with Nancy singing the AK part, and it's amazing. LZ should tour with Ann Wilson if Plant won't go! ;) I'd love that show...Heart/LZ? wow! Nancy is better than Jimmy too, I think.
i have no prob with plant and kraus covering zep's acoustic work, but when they butchered Black Dog i almost shit myself inside out at the horror of how bad it was. this on the other hand is kinda good
Just such an utterly, indescribably, beautiful song and the harmonies of Alison Krauss's and Robert's voice here are so perfect it makes me want to cry. Sandy Denny would be very very proud:-))))))))))))
My dad went to school with Robert Plant. His real name is Robert Davidson but changed his name to Plant because he was really into horticulture and wanted to be a botanist.
It was my dad and his mates who made him change his mind, actually. One day they bum raped him in the school greenhouse and after that, he couldn't go near plants or flowers ever again.
That day when he took one up the ring-piece, was also the day he realised that he could reach those high notes.
To me she takes the "sexy" out of this. Robert looks like he's just trying to get through this with her. She's SCREAMING her part - horrid. Najma's version from No Quarter with the Egyptian orchestra is mind-blowing. Check it out. Najma and Robert are totally in this sensuous zone and it's very exotic, to me, the way this song should be done.
@Gweyn200 I agree. Alison Krauss' voice is pretty, but I don't think it's a good fit for this song. This song has an ethereal, otherworldly quality to it, and the back-up vocals are integral to the song. I realize they're not trying to recreate the original version, but Alison's voice is too country for this song. At least the woman from Page/Plant's "No Quarter" DVD gave the song an exotic quality, but this version sounds uninspired.
@avocate201 I thought it was good. Brought a different element to it. A womanly and vunerable voice to it. Then again hard to judge with the quality of the video posted. I know for a fact hearing something live then hearing the recording doesn't do it justice.
They can`t dance. He looks like a middle aged hippy with a hip problem. She looks like a teenage girl not quite sure what to do at a disco...
but can they sing???
You bet they can!!!!
Have been a Zeppelin Fan for 34 years and was there at Knebworth in 79.
Battle of Evermore is my all-time favourite track and I think this is better than the original. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. So glad this was posted.

that's the only song from LZ IV (and one of the few in general) that i never liked... but i like this version!!! much better than the original! I still prefer him with Pagey in the old days, but for this song i like him and Alison better!
This song was AMAZING at Red Rocks in Denver. Red Rocks is such an awesome venue and has this incredible ambience. Get someone like Robert and Alison in there with a song like this and you're just blown away. Thanks for posting this one! Anyone got a recording of the Red Rocks show??
Damn, Plant's voice is still freaking brilliant! It's a shame he does not want to reunite Led Zeppelin... I understand why he does not want to, but it is still a shame...
Welcome! Glad you're on board. Both RP & AK have taken a lot of hits moslty from those who haven't really listened and want RP to rehash the past. They both are really on to something.
Always been a huge Zep fan and "discovered" Allison as a singing gem on the O Brother Whereart Thou soundtrack back in '99. This collaboration and their Raising Sand album made me so happy.
AK is able to evoke the essence of whatever genre she sings. She has the most perfect blend of space, pitch, timbre and volume of any singer I have ever been exposed to-ever. RP is able to get her to break new territory and bring out the power in her voice. I think her only limitation is that which she places on herself.
Robert's voice aged like a fine wine there's no need to try to shatter glasses anymore. I'd like to see the aging members of Zep and Jason write some new material that suits them now I'm sure they still got some tricks up their sleeves. Not to mention this Alison Kruass chick is frickin amazing to no wonder why Plant is hard to pry away from her.
If i turned over and saw Robert singing with me i'd pass out. thats like standing with god.... you can tell he wants to twist his hair and move his hands like back in the day
I don't blame him. Its about the art for him. He's been there and done that with Led Zepplin. I would like to see Zep again, but its not fair to resent the artist because he doesn't want to do the same thing he did for years and years.
Agreed. Although his performance live was long winded and not so enjoyable. I'm certainly glad he had a vision to provide an offering of music that is "American."
Surely you jest. AK is almost unrivaled in her power and range. She just doesn't push herself. That's what RP does for her. Even so AK is always, always, always spot on her notes. As RP admits, sometimes he's hanging on for dear life. An amazing pair.
@dlawrick Robert Plant is far more the artist...hanging on for dear life...I think not, learn your music! Although you are right they did sing this song great together.
Just came back to this again. Bellerose using maracas and AK's seemingly effortless glides to those crescendos, whew! What amazing dynamics, power, and crystal clear clarity. I keep going back to my 70's shows and O2 for the contrast with Page's wash of guitar distortion goo (again great guitar composition though but you can't hear it live). I hope RP & AK can bring in the new and also reconstruct some of the old into the new. Both the LZ and AKUS catalog is rich with amazing possibilities...
Man, I listen to this and compare it to Zep's O2 performance. I understand RP's direction. First, there's no direction like forward rather than looking back. Second, Page composed some otherworldly guitarwork but the O2 performance reminded me of the 2 Zep performances I saw in the '70's. Page's guitar was a swath of washed-out distortion. This is crystal clear. RP's talent is crystal clear (AK too). Again, I love Page's composition and studio performances but live was something else completely.
Funny you should say that. Plant said the same thing about not looking back in an interview in the local paper.
For some reason, the comment section isn't letting me link to it so I added a link to it up in the info section of this video along with a link to a review of the show.
Plant likes to play with Page. He did so throughout the 90's, and he apparently felt good about the 02 experience. There's a ridiculous rumor that Plant has turned down offers to do more Zep reunion work, but no one from Zep ever said that. Just a "source", whatever that is. You can bet they're considering it as a possibility after the tour with A Krauss is done, but they will never say so because the hype it would create would be a pain in the ass for all of them in the mean time.
i'm sorry Robert but without Page, you just don't nail the zeppelin classics. i dont know who your guitar player was but he's like nails on a chalkboard and alison must be tone-deaf to think she is in the correct key originally done by Denny.
