one way I've learned to defend really well is to use my back and legs, and when I'm a good distance out of the box, fight really hard for the ball by using my shoulder, and again, my legs to try and kick the ball out and away, but making sure they won't turn on me.
always run up hard on the player and try to make the offensive player fumble the ball(don't give them time to think or react). never commit and be able to turn quickly and step into the offensive players lane and get the ball when they try to turn. fake lunges or stabs at the ball can also make the offensive player fumble or commit to a side.
the "offensive players lane" what sport are you talking about
a fake lunge to wrong foot yourself great idea.
fumble? pretend to tackle the player to try and make him drop the ball your not a very good defender are you.
you stand your ground watch the ball and wait til theres an opportunity and poke the ball out or if the player isn't of the skillful nature and your not last man go in hard ball and player
maybe you don't have agility thats why you can't do it. did'nt i say don't commit. you stay on your toes which you said, but you fake a short step, your arms sell the fake.
yea just watch the ball and be patient, and dont stab!! dont dive in. it pisses me off when people do that. just watch the ball and wait till they give it up.
In most cases it's recommended to patiently wait for the opponent to either pass or choose a side.
But...if ur agile enough to erroneously dive in and get back up in enough time to apply pressure again then ...going in for the steal could actually be a good idea.
However, I agree with u, I also tend to favor using team tactics that put more emphasis in containing than in pressuring, mainly because of how easier they are to apply and practice, as far as fatigue goes.
i'm a defender, great dribbling you say? how well can you dribble with a damaged ankle? your fast you say? how fast can you run with a limp? accuracy? whats accurate when you got a defender right in front of you? and Power? i dont care how big you are or how strong i'll take you down with a nice chop to the back of your knees.
i am also a deffender. dont ever watch the upper body thats what a forward wants you to do. insted when hes doing all his little step overs and shit just be patient and wait for him to mess up like leaving the ball to far in front him then rush in.
yea im also a defender, and instead of watching the players upper body and leaning a certian way, cuase ull get beat almost everytime. u just gotta watch the ball and the second u see him even touch the ball you gotta rush in and have total confidence. you cant just rush in half ass or it probably wont work.
i always catch them on the dribble. i see them coming into a one on one and wait till they get close then i tell myself, next dribble rush in. lots of forwards misjudge how much time they have before they get to the defender.
Yeah, I see sooo many players rush in and the attacker dribbles right by (left behind). I teach sprint to 5 yrds then close down to 2 yrds. Stay in their face and put pressure to delay until you get cover. Make a front toe poke to tackle (if you miss you can try again or even fake it to make them commit) when the attackers foot is off the ball (timing just as you pointed out).
exelente, era lo que estaba buscando.

true dat. it's human nature to dive in though, you do it wihtout even thinking... it takes training and practice haha
Defense isn't easy. I love it when you switch and cover with another defender... that powerful feeling of teamwork..

the most important thing to do is apply pressure and patience, and keep ur eye on the ball, not the striker's foot
