I encourage you to read Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, it is a great book and yet sad, and the Indian Reservation is land that the tribes is force to live on... it can be their old hunting grounds(rarely) or a relocated place that belongs to other tribe..miles and miles away from their land. However I am not sure how they choose to live in the reservation...but I think they do use todays technology as well. But most reservation is poor and uneducated..it is quite sad.

"America" seen profit in the land we did have so the armies would use tactics such as waiting for all the men to leave to hunt to massacre women and children. Avatar cloned this movie.. and the clone made 50 times more money then what this movie made.. this movie was simple a black and white picture ..and it was cloned into a brighter colorful picture

The Matrix is actually like Japanese animation in live action and more like live-action Ghost in The Shell/Akira/Fist of the North Star/Ninja Scroll with Keanu Reeves as the star. Ever seen those amazing adult animated movies? watch them and you'll see why they inspired Matrix mainly GITS.

I know everyone says that Avatar is the same as this and Pocahontas and Ferngully, etc.. but is it really such a horrible thing to re-tell stories? Especially since the messages they give seem to be so positive and trying to get people to take more care of the earth.

I have never seen Dances with Wolves but if I look at this trailer the Avatar is very unlike Dances with Wolves. You really have to stretch your imagination and oversimplify a lot.
Both Avatar and Dances with wolves follows a certain fixed story telling template. Google "Dances with Wolves (1990) Deconstructed" and "Monomyth"

@djmins2008 Perhaps it's because you've never seen the movie. The way this poof portrays DDW may sound a bit racist, due to the narration of Avatar. But if you watch the movie, you will see that most Natives are depicted as the protagonists, and it's the white who are portrayed as antagonists, who hunt and kill innocent buffalos.

after finding out that avatar and dances with wolves were the same thing it takes all the creativity and awesomeness out of avatar. creativity had died, it makes me sad. also i feel that even tho both of these movies are the same thing they tried sending a message that were kililng ourselves with material objects. im gunna get retardedly high and watch these two movies in a marathon and see if the similarities are true.

This movie hit spot on trying to explain what native american spirituality is, the thing that sucked is the only way it could be explained to stubborn americans is through cgi. I know that most people that will read this comment will laugh because they know that in a 100 years we will become extinct. The only race that the world turnd there backs on. I've seen thousands of people who give compassion to african american and the jewish community but are happy to see my people die off. Avatar=great

@reeboy101 Its sad. After reading dances with wolves it really made me think. It made me think of how fragile our society is and how cruel people can be. Its sad man..it really is. I intend to read "bury my heart at wounded knee" as well. Also if you could..no offense but I don't understand the indian reservation stuff..if you could explain it would be awesome. Is it like land set off that they own..or is it a place where indians live like they did years ago.

I encourage you to read Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, it is a great book and yet sad, and the Indian Reservation is land that the tribes is force to live on... it can be their old hunting grounds(rarely) or a relocated place that belongs to other tribe..miles and miles away from their land. However I am not sure how they choose to live in the reservation...but I think they do use todays technology as well. But most reservation is poor and uneducated..it is quite sad.

@dude63 It is land set aside that we do own but not what we chose. We were basically given land that "America" didn't want. We signed treaty's that allowed us more land then what we have now. "America" seen profit in the land we did have so the armies would use tactics such as waiting for all the men to leave to hunt to massacre women and children. The sad thing is is that the Government still allows reenactments of these "massacres" passing them off as great "battles".

@dude63 Well we do live in houses, and having running water and electricity. But we still have some Indigenous people such as myself that follow Native way, such as sweating and going to ceremonies. Staying clear of Alcohol and any other kind of substance that pollutes are bodies. Like I said in the sense Avatar's way of Spirituality hits Indigenous Spirituality right on the nose. I have had people get angry with me for showing others how to live this way that aren't of Indigenous Decent.

very true which is why i dont hold that against avatar. with something as popular as avatar people are just trying to find something wrong, the flaw of the story not being as complex as the terminator is not really a big deal. the problems of this film are the things that are getting overrated.
