@corky469 Depending on what year model you may be correct. However, on my Old mans 2500 hd 04' model 4x4 it does have a G80 Locking Rear by Eaton. Also my 07 New Body Style 4x4 GMC...not Z71..just 4x4 has one as well. I confirmed both by calling in the VIN# to the dealership. Just trying to trow more facts out there and get rid of any myths people may have told others about.

Sorry, this is a dumb question. But How would one know if their 1998 z71 had a rear locker?  Mine seems to have every other option, but I don't know if I have that or not.

@MyCoolAimName1 Z71's come stock with lockers. If you have a Z71 then it has lockers. If you have just a 4x4 then you dont have lockers

My next truck will be a Z71 or a 2500 HD. I love my 2wd Chevy but SICK of not having 4WD when I need it. I don't mud ride but when I actually need 4WD and don't have it, it makes me mad and I'm serious.

the GMT800's do have the option of being a Z71 package in 2wd. I have an 04 that is a z71 (4x4) with the G80 rear locker (factory)

umm yes you can gm just recently started offering the z71 in 2wd packages its a special order from the factory if you dont believe me then ask your local gm dealer cuz thats what they told me

no, there are 2wd Z71's. the new ones are only 4x4 if they say 4x4 under the Z71 decal.

Wrong, the 88-98 factory Z71's are all 4x4.

Only the newer tahoes ( later gmt800s) and all GMT900's have the poser Z71 package.

Another reason I wont buy a new truck : P

NEW z71s are now 2wd, but that era of chevys were not available in 2wd z71

and almost all had the floor shifter 4wd if it was early 90's, they didnt start push button until like 98 or so

4X4 is simply that... A 4X4 ... Z71 is an off-road pakage including the 4wd, beefier billstien shocks, Which sit about an inch or two higher than a stock gm., and the Z71 also has a skid plate .. hope this helped..

z71 also usually has push button 4x4 and an automatic locking rear differential. skidplates on front diff and transfer case.

Not all Z71's are four wheel drive either, Z71's have skid plates and bigger brakes, along with longer shocks adding ride height, not neccesarily 4x4

It is obvious you too have tires, exhaust and a few other things. But I was wondering why you chose not to use the 4-wheel drive in this scenario? You have a Z71!
