I am a med student and was considering psychiatric residency in that place but now I'm having second thoughts about it.

I have worked as mental health professional in england , they have state run mental health system, no where in entire england will you see anywhere even similar to what these people are going through.

its true about the rocking back and forth i am deaf and was locked away not by my mom but by a cop in france he said was wild child and took me to home for the disabled and sat in there for 6 years and my disability got worse went from deaf to retarded when i go out my mom and my aunt that lived in america had got me out and she said i had changed i didnt speak sign read or write but today i drivve live alone i sign and read but i still fock back and forth and other things.

Institutions anywhere in the world look a lot like this - with more medical systems, but people with disabilities are stuck in large segregated places like this today - even in Canada and US. Thank goodness some governments have deinstitutionalized people with disabilities! People belong in their communities!
Those kids at 2:00 are so bored stuck in that room to just BE....I wanna help them....they have nothing for sensory stimulation , some have autistic traits...the rocking and self injurious behaviour. We live in the year 2009 we should be able to help these people and give them full support.
There is something about the cultures where this goes on (Eastern Europe, the Middle East, etc.) that allows this sort of thing to go on while others don't seem to care. That makes me even more proud to be a Cherokee woman--we never abandoned those who needed us most. This is an EU country, and these people call themselves civilized. What a laugh.
I bet lots of people think, or just tell themselves, that these patients aren't really 'all there' anyway, so they're not suffering that much. A man lying curled up on the ground and staring at nothing looks like he's not in the moment, but he might, underneath it all, be fully cogent and in crushing emotional pain. A lot of people don't take pain seriously until they hear someone screaming.
how the hell can this crap go on? wtf is wrong with this world? i watched a dateline special on this and im now going to try and get my community involved. i encourage others to do the same.
