  • I like this deleted scene because it explains the desertion of the Fort.

  • The dead deer were there to show how much discipline had decayed in the unit, and the men were in caves because they no longer felt safe in the fort, fearing Indian attacks at any time. The entire scene was meant to show how close the fort was to being re supplied by Dunbar, and as fate would have it, they abandon the fort after waiting for a long time, only to miss Dunbar and Timons by only hours.

  • This scene sure answers a lot of questions although the desertion of Fort Sedgewick really is not a major part of the story.

Thanks for sharing this, now I don't have to create my own story.....but then again, it really doesn't matter!....LOL!

    IT'S JUST A MOVIE......

  • Is that Vigo Mortensen on the right at 2:02

  • @rotcbrad

    no..

  • I still can't figure out why there were dead deers and why would corporal live in a cave... And why would officer talk to him like that?

  • @quaest the deer were put there to make the water as unusable as possible and the other men lived in caves because they had abandoned their commanding officer...probably because he had provided no (or totally inadequate) leadership after having been abandoned/forgotten by the Army.

  • @UklaTheMokk Thanks. I just finished watching the movie short version and I was confused as to what happened and why the deer were there.

  • @UklaTheMokk,Where did you get this deleted scene?

  • Yea, this is in the extended cut of the film, which Costner says is the best version of the film. I agree.

  • I am all but certain that this was actually the first scene shot for the movie.

  • Is the full theatrical release available to purchase online or somewhere? It'd be so nice to see this all.

  • There is a longer version of Dances With Wolves, to me is much better than the shorter version. IT made the story more complete, and answered why to the many questions.

The longer version 3 1/2 plus hours is much better.

  • I have never see that one!
