  • Here's a good quote that pretty much explains why Jon Stewart and Colbert are popular:

"Satire is fascinating stuff. It's deadly serious, and when politics begin to break down, there is a drift towards satire, because it's the only thing that makes any sense." -Ben Nicholson

They tell truth through the satire, there is information to be gained and a laugh to be had, it's a mix of two good things, now if you can't see pass the jokes, that might be a problem.

  • Wow, an RATM fan?!

    HELL YA.

  • Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are about as serious of political commentators as Glenn Beck.

  • @AlyonaSeyz I, the emperor, know about your show. The imperial channel knows Russia Today and The Alyona show very well. While I may not always agree with everything, since I am the same as my friends out of the ancient world, and while it is not good, when programmes are given the names of people, who work for them, your show is good.

  • yo jon stewart and stephen colbert make fun of both side if you ever watch the show but mainly they are make fun of repubicans but they make fun of democrats to, the news are all on fire, policts are all liars, jon stewart just show it and colbert makes fun of it

  • HOW MANY SHEEP CAN BE LED BY ONE SHEPHERD?

Simple arithemetic for the politically conscious: Add up the subscribers to Fox News, Wall St. Journal, Clear Channel communications and the NY Post, and you would have the number of people who voted Republican this election cycle

Footnote: Just one person, the Australian Rupert Murdoch, is the owner of all of these news outlets, and is the primary news contributor to Clear Channel radio -- U.S. largest radio communications network.

  • is she a journalist?

  • @DVAFP nope, a real journalist knows that after asking a (non-leading) question, he or she should shut up and listen to the answer. she has no clue whatsoever.

  • colbert&stewart tell the fucking truth they dont give a fuck about bill on fox or glenn gay ass

  • god I love this argument. No Stewart nor Colbert have ever talked ill of the left and totally kiss their asses. Buy gold, that's what Beck would have you do. Oh and Fox News is "fair and balanced" in every way. Look the fact is that the media won't "get" either of them because they are pointing out the obvious to anyone literate. BOTH SIDES ARE WRONG and the media is biased by their own sycophantic posturing and personal agenda. At least we are all in this together though.

  • @ryoukoblade Wrong. You obviously don't watch either show. They criticize the left a ton they just were known for right bashing because of 2 Bush terms. Fox the 1 democrat guest for 5 republican guests? The "token liberal" network? Look the difference is the FOX presents itself as news, Colbert and Stewart present themselves as opinion pieces ON the news. Watch Stewart blasting the hosts of crossfire on crossfire, he illustrates the difference well (the CNN show was canceled shortly after.

  • @gobsbsdvfas It was sarcasm, which sadly doesn't read very well. That's why I threw the Beck/buy gold comment in there. I watch them both religiously and I'm neither Left nor Right "Wing" which amazingly enough makes both shows less funny and more brutally honest. Thus the comment about both sides of the political spectrum serving no one in the end and the media frenzy to convince us all otherwise. You reference to Crossfire is totally choice in the regard. It was some great tv.

  • @ryoukoblade : Both Colbert and Stewart make fun of the left, and Stewart has been critical of some of president Obama's choices.

  • Only left wing losers watch Colbert and Stewart.

  • @AlanCom1 : Left-wing losers? You mean like all those college students; lawyers; doctors; teachers; government employees, movie, TV, and musical artist stars, soldiers and their families; authors; inventors; and mega millionaires and billionaires? Those kind of losers?

  • i like this chick. she's totally trying to pull some good points out of this guy. also, mr. old man, "young people" watch Stewart/Colbert because they expose the "half-truths" of the big news stations and tons of us listen to NPR. quit generalizing.

  • It would probably notbe called political if they weren't blatantly copying Glenn Beck

  • @StuffedAnimalAdvisor its a parody of glenn becks rally u fucking moron

  • @66644538

Yeah, and way to ignore the message of said rally.

Because calling people who don't see things the way you do a "fucking moron" is not a problem that he was addressing.

I expected more from a bunch of numbers.

  • @StuffedAnimalAdvisor im not calling you a fucking moron becasue you dont see thigns the way i do. i dont know what your opinoin on ANYTHING is. i called you a fucking moron becasue you said they're blanantly copying glenn beck when the rally is actualy a parody a.k.a theyre making fun of glen becks rally not copying it. you. fucking.moron.

  • @66644538

Oh, and just becuse someone is mocking someone else, they can just say "its a parody" and suddenly it makes it magically better.

    Really?

Last I checked, Glenn Beck's rally was solemn...(the same way maybe Buffy the Vampire slayer is solemn)...where as Stewart's was less about issues and more about entertainment. Just pure fluffy entertainment.

  • @StuffedAnimalAdvisor mocking something IS aprody god damn are you some kind of ucking retard? shut the fuck up YOU IDIOT. and yea john stwert is an ENTERTAINER his rally was NOTHING about issues and JUST entertainment. thats what a parody is its comedy entertainment, for fun get it? are you a troll nobody can be this fucking stupid

  • @66644538 Thanks for proving my point, Nimrod.

Your a credit to my growing ego.

  • @StuffedAnimalAdvisor lol what the fucks your point that your a moron who dosnt know what the word parody means

  • @66644538 other that your insane with anger, and the whole point of that rally John Stewart did was to restore sanity...which has to do with getting rid of that anger your infected with

  • @StuffedAnimalAdvisor fuck you and jon stewart

  • @StuffedAnimalAdvisor : Beck's may have been solemn, but it was still staged and phony, and he only became more rich because of it.

  • I think we're missing the point...whether you are talking what happened with this instance with the rally or the Juan Williams firing, there is the larger question of who the media is and what we should allow the media to censor. Throwing "insults" is part of the problem. It isn't a right left thing. It's a First Amendment thing.

  • Well, isn't this just the liberal way - make 'em laugh all the way to the poor house. What? You need a good laugh and ejoy hearing our country is going to hell in a hand basket? What a crock of BS!

  • alyona u look like the old school kelly clarkson

  • The left are such morons

  • @KB7BigTony Please look for the Republicans IQ's Level Vs. Liberals IQ's

    Enough Said...

  • @bryoneill11 While he's doing that, look for Republicans charitable giving level vs. Democrats. Then tell me which side is more "compassionate."

  • dude is oooooold

  • Rage against the machine FTW

  • Fair or right, no I can't answer that question? Though, I can say the rally was naturally political. It's an American political fairy tale when ABC or CNN say they are fair and balance and another network is not, such as Fox. Anyone who reports the news is going to express an opinion, like it or not. Though, it's any organization's right to forbid their employees to attend a rally. We have four networks that favor liberal thought, some more openly than the others.

  • The main stream media is just gasoline to the fire of politics. After all they benefit the most through campaign money that goes to pay for political ads. How many billions have went into this election cycle alone?

  • I try to watch and read all forms of news and political commentary including the mainstream. I don't want to end up getting all of my information from just one source.

  • @blueBlackpurple The goal is to cut off any opposition thought. That's why it was called to restore sanity. If you don't agree you are insane. Insane people shouldn't be allowed to vote or protest. Eliminate Fox or any opposition, even if it's weak, ineffective and only serves the pretension of opposition.

  • She's hot. Hawwwwwwt.

  • wow that woman is lame

  • wow, so yeah you guys really have a handle on whats going on...

  • This old guy is a loser. Clearly HE is too dumb to get Colbert or Stewart. And he works for The Hill? WTF is that?

  • @rkcomments did you listen to the conversation ... like ... at ... all ... lol ?

  • main stream major media(far left) are just sore losers

O rielly lets both sides have a say every time I have watched him- that is why he is spanking the regular main stream media - he is honest and lets both sides have a say

alyona is out of touch with reality - her guest is a bone - head spin artist

  • What's all this bullshit about age here? I'm 44 years OLD and I watch Stewart and Colbert as well. And I stopped reading newspapers and I quit watching the so-called 'news' channels because, frankly, they SUCK at being honest and true to actual journalism. ABOUT TIME they got woken up by Colbert & Stewart! Douchebags are just bad losers, that's all.

  • @Meowbay I hear that all the time... the media got Stewart's demographics wrong. I know 70 yr olds who watch his show all the time.

  • @Meowbay true that not all watchers and followers of colbert/stewart are millennial generation people, there are plenty of older people that agree with what they express and enjoy their shows. and yes the 24hour news channels are boring as hell and you can almost feel how pathetically hard they try to make "interesting TV". They are dying out because of their inability to actually find REAL news and their attempts at getting viewers are interfering with their integrity.

  • @Meowbay I agree! I'm 55, and I get a lot of my political coverage from Stewart's Daily Show. It's funny, and if you bear in mind that it works from a comedic basis, it is truthful and informative.

It's driven by film clips!!! Especially clips that show politicians reversing themselves.

  • @Meowbay I guess that proves that even old stupid people watch those shows.

  • @Meowbay How can you consider comedians to be accurate news vendors? Do you believe they go out and find factual information. I personally believe these comedians just read what real journalists write and base a witty opinion off of it, but they aren't doing any of the real research. Logically, their information can be no more accurate then that of what ever their source is.

  • @TheBasementDwelIer There are other news sources than those Colbert & Stewart are mocking, you know? I don't see where you draw your conclusions from, but I never wrote what you are stating I did.

  • @Meowbay I doubt either of these two news sources go out of their way to report truthful information. They don't have an agenda, their goal is simply to make money. I would assume, though this is not a known fact but highly likely, their writing team sees something on CNN, FOX, etc... looks at simple phrases or stories they can make fun of, writes a joke, and it stops there. I am sorry these shows are about jokes, I cant see them finding other more truthful news sources just to create jokes.

  • @TheBasementDwelIer : Actually, both Stewart and Colbert are very well informed. They are Much better informed, about facts, government, and international politics that any of the talking heads of Fox and its ilk. However, they are also comedians, and Stewart has commented repeatedly on how silly it is when the rightwingers talk about him as if he is a real news anchor. Comedy or not though, Stewart's interviews are some of the most intelligent TV on the air.

  • @Daisymight Really? I had no idea that Comedy Central pays for reporters to go out and do research for these two comedians. But since they are so well informed perhaps you can tell me where exactly they get their facts. Ill say it again, most news organizations have something called reporters, they travel to where the news is, research and report. I have never seen a comedy central camera at a presidential election or any other important event.

  • @Daisymight I have heard his interviews, they are satirical at best and not to the point. That doesn't mean they are good, that means they are fun to watch. TV is fun to watch, books are boring to many people. Perhaps you mean that these comedy shows make news fun? I can agree with that but trying to tell me that they are better quality sources for information then other news vendors is just plain silly.

  • Fox is far from "most news channels"

  • RATM FTW

  • Jon Stewart and Colbert are jokes. The sarcasm and satirical nature reminds me of of RT: they lack credibility. They are clearly pushed by an ideology that is far from objective. So biased and incomplete.

  • @SuperEdwardthomas i think they wanna be jokes but still way wayyyy les biased that most news channels (fox)

  • @SuperEdwardthomas Ur a Retard. RT is class also.

  • @SuperEdwardthomas

ah , retarded republicans are always entertaining. Tx for the laugh SuperEdweadmoron

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperEdwardthomas : The ability to recognize and understand satire is a mark of high intelligence. Stewart and Colbert are highly intelligent comedians and well informed citizens. They combine the two and create comedic social commentary. Their audiences are mostly well-educated, well informed people, young to much older, who get their news from real news sources, and as Stewart said, that is why they get the jokes.

  • It's so funny how "comedians" tell more of the truth...

  • @theelbowfromthesky

If it weren't funny they wouldn't be very good comedians, right? :P

  • @theelbowfromthesky

Steward: 'I'm the hardest-hitting journalist in media. And I'm appalled by that fact.'

I could watch HLN, and get news, and be out right depressed.

Or I could watch Stewart and get news, and be a little less depressed.

  • @theelbowfromthesky

the 'truth'? what the hell are you talking about. colbert/stewert are entertaining, that's why i watch them. they don't tell different stories than mainstream media, they don't drop bombshells, they don't include details suppressed by corporate or political powers. its the exact same news, its just presented less pretentiously and in a much more amusing way. just because your funny friend is more entertaining telling old stories doesn't mean he remembers them better.

  • @theelbowfromthesky What's funny to me is that you think you're getting any more truth from comedians just because they happen to make you laugh while they dish out the same helpings of b.s. as any of the old schoolers.

But if you're laughing, things just "feel" more true so therefore they must be, right?

  • @theelbowfromthesky I like how you aptly placed quotes around the word comedians.

I note that Stewart and Colbert's "comedy" didn't help their cause, did it?

  • @theelbowfromthesky I agreed and they make it easier to digest... is so funny that all these netowork get these guys whom I'm assuming they get paid to opine and comment, but in the end you get nothing out of them..

  • Buuut, misleading titles are FuUnNnNnNn... :o(

  • Please STOP using misleading titles!

No reporters are 'Banned", they are "prohibited" by their own organizations.

I don't "ban" my kids from a movie theater, only the theater can "ban" my children, I would "prohibit" my children from entering the movie theater!

If it wasn't for the occasional good guest, I would just unsubscribe this channel.

  • @TruthAndMoreTruth so you don't like the synonym they used for prohibit? You can totally ban your kids from the t.v. without the t.v. banning your kids. The question is can you ban your employees from participating in a rally during their free time.

  • @Justwosweet : Even if the word choice, "banned," is technically correct as a synonym for "prohibited", it is still a poor choice because the common usage for "banned" will lead most readers to assume the rally organizers banned reporters, when it was actually the reporters' employers who did. For that reason, intentional or not, it is a misleading title.

  • These guys are wrong and I think Stewart got it right when he was quoted saying (something to the effect) "... my audience gets the news from other sources. If they didn't, they wouldn't get the joke."

  • cause the tea party is just a extention of the GOP now

  • I LiKeEeee to talkee about news orgs. I could never work for, and who don't even knowee about my showeee like, WaPo/NPR/BBCeeee!!!

I also likeee when Aaron Spelling comes on the showeeee!!! 9o21o is KEWL!!! :o)

  • Fox News does well at Tea Party events.
