You are such a cutie-pie with a great personality. So sorry you are dealing with this shit, um, excuse the foreign language there....
I found your video looking for Cervical Dystonia, which I have and they botox the shit (again, sorry for the foreign language usage) out of me every 3 months. It wears off before hand, which sucks...
Anyhow, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your attitude about it all. I have Multiple Sclerosis as well. Fun with MS is more like it.... NOT.
Hey Greg, I have a couple ideas - one would have to be done before the other - if you know the logic behind the idea then you'll have to worry about the placebo effect, so just research it a bit, make sure you're comfortable with it, and commit to it.. Fast for a while. See how you feel, see if your voice is effected, and pay attention to your mental state - The most i've done is 10 days, avg person is safe up to ~30, but try 10 and get back to me. (Read up on it before you do it!)
Hi Greg, I have SD too. The effectiveness of Botox injections seem to depend upon the doctor, the dosage and the location of the injection. That said, one shot ( or one doctor) isn't going to be the best indicator of how well Botox is going to work for you. Speech therapy can also be helpful. This is the single most frustrating thing that I have had to deal with. The emotional cost of SD is high. It's probably going to take a while for you to figure out what works best for you. Hang in there.
You have my complete sympathy for your SD! I have the ADductor type of SD, and have gone through an expensive saga of inaccurate diagnosis and treatment. I had my first botox treatment 2 weeks ago, and while it did nothing for my breathing issues, at least some of my singing voice came back this week. My injection was painless, which may be because of the difference in our variants of SD. Anyway, I would not rule a second try at the Botox, perhaps the first dosage was insufficient? Good luck!
I am really glad it didn't work because it kills nerve endings. I know people who got so much botox they have no muscle to hold their head up. I have the same of disease. It is a frustrating disease or malfunction. I just get up everyday with this in my mind. FAILURE IS NOT A OPTION! You fight you will overcome this disease but glad to know you are smart enough to know botox is a joke and poison. Try someone who is a physical therapist and massage therapist.
lol your insame i love it! I also have SD. i found out about 3 months ago after 6 months of wondering what the heck was wrong with me. Glad to see someone else who's also pretty good humored about it:)
Hey Greg -- I sound just like the female version of you. I've suffered with Abductor Spasmodic Dysphonia for almost 20 years now. I never had the Botox -- didn't want it. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I have recently discovered that voice therapy and breathing exercises (voice therapy and yoga) can help. You might want to join the Spasmodic Dysphonia Facebook group -- they share a lot of really good info there. :)
Have you seen a speech therapist yet? It's a bitch, the exercises are impossible ("visualize lifting your soft palate, now lower your larnyx"), you feel like an idiot, and the odds of success are low. But after several months, it worked for me. That was in 1992. In the first few years after, I'd have flare-ups and have to do exercises again. But the nightmare is gone. It's a crappy condition. I want you to beat it, Greg.
something that you could try that may work for you (helped my friend alot). All you have to do is get a heat pack, place it around the neck for around five mins to help warm and relax the muscles in the vocal cord then get your hands and place two fingers together on each hand and proceed to massage on both sides of the voice box (the right spot is just above your sternum near the start of your collar bones)remember to press hard enough that you can feel it but not to hard that it hurts goodluck
hey greg !! the video is really cool , how you will find the right thing for the voice problem , by the way how is the dating thing going for u after the show ?
hi greg, i have to say that it took me a while before my botox worked...try injecting one of the vocal chords rather than both...it truly should work...it sorted me out..i was the same as you pal
i don't understand. In VH1 The Pick Up Artist you had a relatively ''normal'' voice , but in your last videos you said your vioce cracks down every time :/ sry for my english i'm raised in germany and still live there :D
