ι just found out about this tragedy.this ship has been used in a greek comedy movie in 1986.the title of the movie was: περαστε φιληστε τελειωσατε and i have upload the whole movie on you tube.
The captain & all the crew knew this would happen so they took all the lifeboats & left. Leaving 400 people on board and 2 men saved every1 and every1 was watching the ship go under from helicopters and I think the crew & captain sould be sued and the 2 men sould be crowned somthing big.
@PBRMafia if the water had just flooded the bow from the start, there wouldnt be any water in the lower interiors of the ship which was clearly seen by moss hills in the video of the sinking. because of an outdated & shoddy sewer system, water was allowed to enter the pipes through a vent underwater & because one of the pipes couldnt take the pressure of the water running through it, it sprung a leak allowing the water to flood the loweer compartments.
noo noo noooo! thats not hot it sank! it REALLY sank because someone left their sink on in one of the state rooms and IT flooded the front of the ship. So what do we learn from this? alwasy turn off leaky faucets! it could save a life :)
It sprung a leak in the sea chest? Gebus, theyre usually twice the hull thickness or the welds had rotted out.Should have been picked up on a five year survey.
dooh, looks like she didnt have too good WT compartments -.-' wellwell, sadsad, I saw a video of the crew bail from the sinking aswell,w aht a assholess they all be!however; I thought water wpuld not leak like that.damn, I just think cruises became a little more scary! That water came trought more compartments, like those small shown in the video.,thats weird.
i think that someone should make a ship that is completely unsinkable, using titanics ideas but also adding a lot of layer of different types on metal mostly titanium and then have wood covering the metal on the inside
@spiker546 technically, the titanic was built unsinkable, it was designed to take icebergs head on... but instead the crew effed up and was like "oh, ive got an idea, lets try and skirt past the iceberg." And what a mistake that was... :/
@pizzasammy, Titanic was not claimed to be unsinkable before her sinking. The designers knew exactly what kind of damage would be needed to sink the ship.
@spiker546, wood? Wouldn't that be a fire hazard? I don't think it would be necessary to use titanium in the ship construction (or even wise) - high-strength steel would do just fine.
Captain Avranas stated, "When I give the order abandon ship, it doesn't matter what time I leave. Abandon is for everybody. If some people want to stay, they can stay."
@tupolev141 "If they want to stay, they stay, If they want to jump ship, they drown. It's totally up to them!"
Would you believe, I had sailed on that ship around the greek islands a couple years prior. I think we even had that captain, iirc. Glad it didn't sink then!!!
Was on this ship in 1988, remembering it being like a big tug boat. Remember the crew onboard. No wonder other staff helped save the day and passengers as actual crew evacuated the vessel...
They are only determined by their overall watertight integrity... Navy Frigates and other war vessels alike generally have much better WTI than larger vessels.
Make the SS Looney Tunes too! Heres the colors(funnel: red, black lines under red. hull: black lower hull: red sinks like the titanic and the ss looney tunes is like the titanic
the only problem is...th titanic didnt actually tip over on its side! it went front first! then the back just kinda bobs in the water...then it eventually goes down into the water and sucks down many people and they all die!!! i should know...im doing a repotr on it right now!!! other than the sink miscoception...it was FENOMINAL!!!:-D
actually the back of the titanic didnt suck people down it went down slowly everyone in the lifeboats just THOUGHT it would suck people down that the reason why soo many people in the water died, the lifeboats went far away from the ship.
True this is a diffrent ship but there was suction after the back end of the Titanic went down just like any other large object that sinks get a brain if the lifeboats hung around then even more people would have died.
only one problem with your simulation, it didn't just flop under the water like this portrays. It went fucking end up like 90 degree angle to the water and shit. Go look at pictures of it, you'll see.
Oh, yes, Captain Avranas: he invited me to his quarters for drinks one night, and I got to meet his four cocker spaniels (which he had on board at that time). Pleasant man, but a strange, sort of detached manner. I must say it didn't surprise me at all to read of his abandoning ship and his evasive references to his actions.
I was on this boat the year before it sank, on a cruise in the Aegean. She had what I call "attack toilets." When you'd done your business, you had to flush and then immediately flee the head (bathroom) and shut the door. The reason: your "business" would indeed go down the drain as desired, but on the refill, the amount of air in the faulty pipes would produce a geyser out of the toilet. We didn't keep our towels or toiletries in there. That tells you something about the plumbing.
this is on shockwave right now, a water in take vaule apparently the shut off was corroded but the safty vaule was taken out when they were at sea wich was a retarded mistake. oh and the captain left like a big chicken.
No. The ship was already shitty as it was, pipe wise, and it was serverly damaged by a storm, no safty valves were installed, the portholes were open and the water could not be stopped.
What the hell is up with the Greeks? I can't keep up with all their ferry sinkings and cruise ship sinkings over the past two decades. I mean, let's just get real here. The Aegean, Adriatic, and Mediterranean areas aren't exactly known treacherous waters of high waves and storms, unlike the Atlantic and Great Lakes of the US. Maybe the Greeks should all just stay on dry land and stick with cooking and drinking and watching soccer - they are at least good at that.
If you want to read something really frightening about cruise ships, google search "Maritime Security by Bonesman322." It's all about how maritime capital interests--assholes like Micky and Shari Arison, owners of Carnival Cruise Lines--have established legalized slavery off Florida's coast, in part by using the Mafia to undermine organized labor. If you're considering taking a cruise aboard a foreign-flagged cruise ship, you'll forget the whole bad idea after reading it.
After repairing ships for a good part of my life,I can tell you from experience that a small pipe can move a shitload of water. How long does it take to fill your bath with the taps on full? And theyre only 1/2" pipes.
it would have been good if the titanic sunk that way, by the way have you got the titanic 1953 movie, let me know the answer when you get this message
The actions taken by the crew (excluding two entertainers who played a vital role in evacuating the ship) were terrible and cowardly. The captain later claimed that he had ordered everyone to abadon ship. He said that the passengers had not listened, and that if they wanted to stay onboard, the could.
when the captain and several crew members arrived back to Greece they were arrested and after a trial they lost their lisences and they are still in jail serving long sentenses for abbandoning the vessel and the passengers
The Greek captain and his officers were on the first lifeboat when this Greek cruise ship sank of the Wild Coast of South Africa! It was left to two entertainers - a guitarist and a magician - to summon help. Through their efforts, and that of the South African National Sea Rescue Institute, NOT ONE soul was lost. The guitarist was the last one off the ship!
The ship was build in 1952 so it would be in prety bad shape anyway.
I went on a cruise to Egypt on a ship called the MV Atalante, It was built in 1972 but had been rebuilt from the hull up 3 times and it was still a bit rough around the edges. BUT I WOULD TOTALY RECOMEND EVERYONE TO CRUISE FROM CYPRUS TO EGYPT on it its briliant (if not a bit expensive)
