and laundry softeners will bancrot. Do you think that's logical? Same thing here. They got tehnology to make cars which will move by power of the Sun? Why not? Because they can sell oil, and fuel first, then they will make hybrid, to sell oil and fuel with electricity also. Then they will make full electricity car, to sell el. power, then they will make half sun-half el, then for like 100 years of taking our money, they will make full sun powered car. Homework to think about it.
First of all, who's retarded, it can be noticed from your question about my age, since it's says 992 in my name. Second thing, I'm going at college, and I'm studying that, so I don't talk without some facts. My profesors, all of them, knows that Green age is one of the ways to earn just more money. Think like this. Everything can be clean by ultra sound waves (teeth, car carburators, everything), but clothes. Why? Because manufacters of washing machines, laundry powder next post
Of course Top Gear built a car like this first XD. My total commute is 50 miles, if this is as good as the reviews say I'd only be using "10 miles worth" of petrol a day, I bet the road tax is sod all too, and no congestion charge either, because all cities in Britain will have it eventually. Though how a same-sized but eco friendly vehicle makes 'less congestion' is anybodys guess...
There used to be several big steel works & 2 smokeless coal manufacturing plants within 6 miles of my house, after 4-8 days there would be an orange residue allover white PVC windows
in the 90's government made everyone clean their act up, now its no longer a problem, that & partly cos half of the steel works have shut since then & they now use electric.
since then there are 40% less children with asthma in the area.
dont you wish people would actually think before they write negative comments?
It's not ONLY 40 miles then ran on petrol its ALWAYS running on electric the petrol is only used to re-charge the electric cells and the electric only engine is always used as there is no petrol enigine in this car so its cant run on petrol and thats how they give you 175mpg
40 miles on the electric motor ?...At very best i expect so i expect a blue motion passat may make as much sense as their mpg are amazing and no expensive electric motors to fix...
@bentdog89 electric motors are very un-expensive to fix and in theory an electric engine would never brake down in the first place, there is only one moving part in an electric engine.
The first 40 miles is battery powered and the rest is ran on petrol so what's the point? If it's not costing me fuel money my electricity bill is going up. What a stupid idea. This is 1 step backwards not forwards.
The real idea is so you use up more of the nuclear industry power rather than the oil which they're about to claim is reaching its peak which is a lie but a lie to be used to aid profits whilst those profits will cover the lacking use over time.Nuclear energy is the finest energy around only problem is the risks, don't be fooled by Fukushima which was a staged nuclear event which was to aid in also destroying this energy to aid in the population reduction agenda of the Club of Rome
@britishtuna its not totally ran on petrol it switches to a petrol motor which charges the electric cells, the car always runs on electricity thats why you get 175mpg there is no petrol engine in this car its totally electric the only reason you put fuel inside is to charge the electric cells
chevy should sue. this is an exact replica, but with some ugly black fog lamp guides to the headlamps on the front fascia, of the volt! for some reason it actually makes me mad...
@Charliedog214 Just a thougth: It might be because both Opel an Chevy are GM brands and the Volt/Ampera is developed by them TOGETHER! The electric motor and e-Rev drivingsystem is a GM developed system!
@MarcelZager Vauxhall was an independent manufacturer, In 1925, the company was purchased by GM. Opel was GMs German subsidiary and in the early 80s, The Vauxhall brand was dropped in Ireland in 1982 and other countries, however due to the vauxhall brand being so strong in the UK it didn't favour GM to change to name.
This is how train locomotive engines work. It always runs on electric, you can hear the diesel engines charging the battery when the train pulls away. This principle has been running for decades now. Car manufacturers I'm sure were aware of this, only because the world is moving onto electric powered vehicles (thanks to smaller manufacturers) the 'big boys' don't want to miss out on the lucrative profits they can make.
I wish it could sell in Europe for the same price as the Volt. Looks like it's about $9k over the volt's price. That way if the Volt doesn't survive in the states, it may still gain popularity elsewhere.
"The wheels are always driven electrically" Really? If this is the European version of the Volt then the claim that the ICE does not drive the wheels is plain wrong. Really, I am surprised at the lack of knowledge of the (traditional) auto journalists. They should learn to google (try: Volt gas engine drive). Also: "Let's do a bit of science" -- er, where was the science?
It isn't a petrol generator, it is a 1400cc astra engine! They used all the 1400cc cars that no one would buy. Shame they do not say how much it really costs to charge.
For £20,000 you can get a turbo diesel astra that is cheaper to run than the ampera. For £7000 you can get a 3 year old diesel, so £30000 is way too much. You would never see any benefit and will end up with HUGE electric bills and one for another £30000 for a battery in 2-3 years time.
the problem is the electrical power source , batteries are heave and cumulating not enough power, they trying to avoid that placing fuel electric power generator on board :) in 50`s they have plans to put a reactor to produce electrical energy for engine
Not gonna lie, I like the Ampera's styling just a little more than the Volt's. Wish we got the lights and front kit of the Ampera over here in the States.
@shafro1 That has been tested already. Jaguar as a new prototype which uses just that configuration. Problem lies in the heath dissipation, which is a huge problem.
@Adendri38 - It does seem that way but the difference is that the Prius gas engine will charge the batteries and at over 40mph will help drive the car forward; So it is moving with the gas engine and/or the electric motor. The Vauxhall's gas engine runs only as a generator to recharge the batteries not to drive or move the car. So the Ampera is always running on it's electric motors to go down the road even after it goes over 40 miles it just starts the generator to get that extra power.
@Adendri38 No contradiction. It's an electric car with a petrol engine to work solely as a power generator (range extender), not to drive the wheel s directly as in a Prius.
and laundry softeners will bancrot. Do you think that's logical? Same thing here. They got tehnology to make cars which will move by power of the Sun? Why not? i think a little contradiction is at workhere
it's not a hybrid or an electric vehicle
its an EREV , extended range ELECTRIC VEHICLE,
also not a hybrid, like a prius though, petrol and electric, the prius is a hybrid, same technology but different name?????
Adendri38 1 year ago
@Adendri38 - It does seem that way but the difference is that the Prius gas engine will charge the batteries and at over 40mph will help drive the car forward; So it is moving with the gas engine and/or the electric motor.
