  • I'm Welsh not British.

  • ¡¡¡GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • can you believe this song was played in the film án englishman that went up a hill and came down a mountain' THE CHEECK

  • Its simple, Britain became a great power, because it incorporated different fighting methods and spirit, such as the Welsh Longbow for example......the Scottish fighting spirit, and the English determination, all parts of Britain, made us great, not just the Welsh or the Scottish or the English, but all of us, we put all our skills together and became British, we should respect one another, not fight..

  • @Hexon2 Amen to that. Scotland became the great brain of nation, the telephone, the first iron-hulled ship, the steam engine, cordite, drainage, radar, radio, the television, the decimal point, general anaesthtic etc. England became the fierce military might, housing most of our population and turning us into a hard power. Wales was the engine of our nation, especially during the industrial revolution, the "coal capital of the world". And Northern Ireland... Northern Ireland... Erm...

  • sorry the English not then

  • wow, you allways judge us americans as being prejudice. such hippocracy. let some people have pride in there own heritage. some of my ancestors are welsh.

  • the is the single most greatest battle anthem ever written, and no i'm not welsh

  • Men of Harlech; The one song that will turn any one man into an Army.

  • @2349DF

Just for kicks I sang along with this video, and by the end of it I was standing with my fist in the air.

  • Im american but i have 90% scottish blood in me....nuff said XD

  • The 24th Regiment of Foot is described as a Welsh regiment: in fact, although based in Brecon in south Wales, its designation was the 24th (The 2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot. It did not become the South Wales Borderers until 1881. Of the soldiers present, 49 were English, 32 Welsh, 16 Irish and 22 of indetermined origin Men of Harlech" features prominently as the regimental song; it did not become so until later. At the time of the battle, the regimental song was "The Warwickshire Lad".

  • @swanyAJ ... But "Men of Harlech" is not solely sung by the Welsh, and I'm sure 'The Warwickshire Lad' was not the one and only iconic song they sang, even if it was the official regimental one.

  • Sung by Rick Rescorla in the Ia Drang Valley 1965 and in the stairway of WTC Tower 2 on September 11, 2001 on the day of his death. RIP.

  • Comment removed

  • @myRincon Is La Drang Valley in Vietnam?

  • @myRincon----- I may be repeating: Rick Rescoria was a hero his whole God-danmned life, time after time. And perhaps it's just as well he died when and as he did. I can't imagine his adjusting to being one real man surrounded by 160 million girly-men.

---Dick, the old soldier Gig Harbor, Peoples' Republic of Washington State.

  • I'm half Swedish, half Scottish, but this version makes me want to be half Cymru! I'm with you! Slaithé!

  • Being British is mega

  • @selannetheduck welsh not british, english cant do this

  • Comment removed

  • @james9483657432 More men in the 24th regiment were in fact English (49) rather than Welsh (32). Not to play down the victory, but it was a British one, with Welshmen and Englishmen fighting and dying as comrades.

  • @Umbaker thats true but this is a song about the welsh.

  • @james9483657432 Can't do what? Sing like this choir? I'll give you that much.

  • You've got to love the Welsh. England alone would never of done as well as it did.

  • This makes me doubly proud, as a Welshman and a Brit

  • Should of sung this as the looters approached us.

Kick out the niggers and immigrants.

  • @Olamtir

Just kicking the looters' enough. Some, if not many, immigrants are way better citizens than some white trash guys I've seen on TV and who pretended to fight back cops because they had offended them, or any other pile of bull-crapic excuse to rob and loot.

  • @Briselance Theyre called Wiggers, or Chavs in Britain. They are influenced by the African american gangster culture. Doesnt matter, whites will be a minority in Europe soon enough.

  • @EvilKorbinDallas

    You're pretty pessimistic, mate.

  • @Briselance In Texas at Waco a nutzu religious group had a firefight with US Federal Marshals. Shiite..the number of guns gun per person was something like 1. . And this in Texas where the average is 3 plus guns per peson. My people have always believe in the arming ourselves. Great grandad Wes Ford rode 300 miles to check on grandma over a century agowhen the Indians were out in Texas. With crossed bandolears, my Dad age 7, said he looked ready for war! John Waynes 6th cousin. A real Texan!

  • Who is this sung by?

  • I love this song and the film Zulu as much as any red-blooded British male. But the film did get it wrong insofar as the regiment was not a Welsh regiment at the time of Rorke's Drift but called the South Warwickshire regiment, although there were apparently a lot of Welshmen in it.

Does anyone know if there is any evidence of this actually being sung by the defenders during the time of the battle? Because that would be awesome.

  • I am a proud Scot living in Weston-super-Mare. Gateway for Wales and a dodgy turning point for Scots and Brummies. Don't know about the Brummies, but I must have taken a wrong turn at Carlisle

  • Some of my families Welsh lines go back to the Third Century Ad, My direct line to the only King of the Welsh, Gruffydd ap Llywelyn and my paternal DNA has a Welsh Stamp on it. Within me,perhaps down deep, there runs the ancient blood, that when roused by this song. makes me want to stand up and fight! Americans are far removed from Wales Scotland,England,Ireland, but we are also the sons of those ancient and fabled lands. From North of Mount Rainier 14,410 to point Sucess. Wes

  • @progressiverebel Hmmm Go "home " then & pay taxes there ?

    [Is that a bit harsh/?]

  • @progressiverebel

he wasnt a king- just a prince of gwynedd- im descended from the princes of powys- wales was a collection of small princedoms- just that he was the last to be conquered by england, its in the name llywellyn ap gruffud- means llywellyn the last

  • @jonastribbon From Wikipedia. . Historian John Davies states that Gruffydd was "the only Welsh king ever to rule over the entire territory of Wales... Thus, from about 1057 until his death in 1063, the whole of Wales recognised the kingship of Gruffudd ap Llywelyn. For about seven brief years. I can trace some of my dna and historic lines a long long way back. A lot of the Tudors/ War of the Roses people came to the colonies.

They were the grandchildren of Kings and Nobles.

  • @jonastribbon Our grandfathers and great grandfathers are of record. Patrick Hepburn Master of Hailies. His line goes back to Malcolm Wallace the father to William Wallace who died without children. John Wallace his brother had children. On Feburary 14 1779 Captain Thomas Scott Weems under Colonel Pickens, Officer Commanding. Led the Upper 96 Regiment at Kettle Creek, a battle that cleared the British out of Georgia. My great grandfather, and the great grandson of William Wallace!

  • @jonastribbon Llywellyn ap Gruffud? You mean Llywellyn ap Gruffydd which means Llewllyn son of Gruffydd (hence my name; as on my passport) is 'Thomas Ross ap Gerywn Morgan'. Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf means Llwellyn the Last.

  • @progressiverebel Noone in Britain can trace their ancestry back to the third century so you are talking a lot of shit there mate.

  • @MrNesfield I can 1066

  • @MrPhildas Well only another 700 years to go back and then you have made it to the third century

  • @MrNesfield they can , not through records obviously , but through dna they can trace approximately were in britain or europe they originate from

  • Stand aside, the reds are coming, Wrexham is the name!

  • ive always wondered if english people descend from the saxons or the normans, as william the conqueror was norman and the nobility of england all spoke french for hundreds of years. I also dont know if the welsh descend from the celts or romans

  • @mackshayster just about everyone in britain, france, germany, russia, and scandinavia is part scandinavain/norman/saxon (go back a bit and they all come from the same tribe of vikings)

  • @mackshayster

English, as a people? well...seeing as we were originally "Britannians", we haven't been England since medieval times and the riddance of those god-awful Saxons. Filthy tribes people.

  • I've found at least three different lyrics for this amazing song, can anyone told me which is the original????

  • @mnditx From the Wikipedia page: "There are numerous versions of 'Men of Harlech', and there is no single accepted English version." Hope that answered your question!

  • @KingofHumility thanks very much!!!!!!

  • @KingofHumility yes my friend, thanks!!!!

  • I am a Scotsman and this makes me feel proud to be a celt.Your dad done well with you

  • my dad sings this every year at the 1000 voice in the Royal Albert Hall - it makes me very proud

  • Zulu that all i have to say

  • Part of the begging sounded French, kind of like, "nous avons..." at 0:06 on the counter. Can anyone explain? Love the song!

    Thanks

  • Does anyone know the name of the choir (or whatever) which sang this?

  • Respect the actual human beings who created this legend. Whether from Wales or Shropshire, they went beyond our abilities to achieve something like glory. And that applies to the Zulus who assaulted an impregnable positon for six hours...

  • A very nice version of this song; but I dislike the pictures.

  • Never heard this version before but I love it!

  • wait until you get a Welsh mother-in-law! ;)

  • The Welsh, The Irish and The Scots have for many years fought against the outsiders. We are one nation together. For years, this battle has gone on. It is still going on. English, i'm sorry to say, or not, are the outsiders. They pushed us further and further west. Including, the Britons (south france), and the Cornish. Any doubts, anyone has, then please, check your history. Essentially, those in Scotland, are historically speaking, Welsh.

  • @Lillianux It's you who needs to check your history, my friend. The Celt/Saxon paradigm is done - almost all indigenous Brits, including the English, trace their ancestry to a common (and quite uniquely homogenous) Iron Age population, close to the Basques and not the continental Celts. German/Danish influence on English population genetics has turned out to be vastly overstated. C.f. Stephen Oppenheimer's 'The Origins of the British', Bryan Sykes's 'Blood of the Isles' etc.

  • @JBMontgomery87 Couldn't have been more wondrously stated

  • For Hundreds of years Welsh , Scots Irish and English have all stood and fought side by side for the isles of Britain ... i would be more than proud to stand and fight along side any man of Britain regardless of what my forefathers may have done but but in honor of many great moments around the world where if not United may never have come to surpass

  • @kilvoere Totally agree with you mate. My brother is in the British Army ( we are white South Africans of British decent) and he would say the same thing. All this sectarian rubbish.... English, Scots, Welsh and Irish we are all the same nation - British! Be proud to be both!

  • beautiful

  • Remember fellas, We're British, fuck all this divisiveness. We are all as one.

  • @vikingraider1 England stole our land, murdered an raped us for centuries, even millennia. And you want us to play happy because England's "changed" slightly?

  • @flashash2k9 Seriously? You would blame every Englishman for things that happened generations ago? And before you turn around and say "It's still happening", you can't blame every person in England for what the government chooses to do. It has nothing to do with "England changed slightly", would you like it if I said every Welshman was a sheep shagger? No, because it would be as ridiculous as your comment.

  • Bastards all

  • As an Englishman i can say that the welsh are our first our closest our best Man. Then the Scotts whom we fought bitterly for centurys too find understanding. Then the Irish who although thier own are always doomed to be within "farting distance." And must suffer our culture wether thru choice or otherwise....Then the Aussie, Loyal too the last. Lastly the Rebel son of the UK; the American.

  • Honor to the brave men of Roque's Drift.

  • @AquilaRomana22

You can start honouring them by spelling Rorke's Drift correctly.

  • @Zigadenus69 Keep acting smart, u're cool, for sure. I just missed a word, happens.

  • @3lliott1337 how?

  • @AceGanondorf Ah, I just realised that BlueDeath210 had already told you that. Sorry to be a nuisance.

  • @AceGanondorf I remember that verse too. I think it might just be in the version especially tailored for the film, but I could be wrong.

  • @AceGanondorf I think that's just the version from Zulu. As far as I'm aware there isn't one set of English lyrics which are universally accepted so we get lots of different ones.

  • Im English but fuck me I love the welsh

  • @smith0250 It's I'm and Welsh is spelt Welsh. *Gives haddock in face* AND DON'T DO IT AGAIN, trooper okay?

  • @montybasset sorry lol

  • @maxran22 idiot

  • @maxran22 I'm English... fuck off you stupid twat and learn some history.

  • Comment removed

  • @maxran22 For an Englishman, your manners are atrocious. For shame, for shame.

  • Comment removed

  • @maxran22 I'm English.

  • Comment removed

  • @maxran22 Come say it to my face? Oh wait, troll detected.

    Get back under your bridge.

  • @maxran22 Also I would like to point out, that picture on my channel is actually a favourite video of a very skilled guitarist. (It's not me) you should check these things before making ridiculous insults.

  • @maxran22 and this is why then English get a bad name because of people like you that comment things like that grow up

  • @BOBMARELY007 It's embarrassing, really. Please accept my apologies on behalf of all the English for producing such a failure.

  • @AdhocHoopla dont need to apologise for him

  • For those of you I'm sure have asked before, and I've JUST found this out, this version of 'Men of Harlech' was performed by The Band And Male Voice Choir Of The Prince Of Wales's Division and is from the album 'We'll Keep a Welcome'.

  • @Bollthorn I heard also that they performed this AT Roarke's Drift.

  • Lol. 2:08 "Pot that fellow," by Mark Churms. Dalton and Color Sgt. Bourne. One old lion advising a young one.

  • Fuck me! Even as a Jock that makes me proud to be part of Britain and the empire we had!!!

  • Welsh song, English Regiment. It was the 2nd Warwickshires that fought at Rorke's Drift. They didn't become the South Wales Borderers until 2 years later.

At best there were 15% of Welshmen present at the battle, an overwhelming majority of Englishmen fought. And this song was never sung. It's a stirring song for a great film, but not at all accurate.

  • yes brave men, the welsh, LED BY ENGLISH OFFICERS !!

  • @woody6541 LED = Light Emitting Diode, or do you mean "I pretend that I am not an English twit?"

  • Look into history, It's been the Welshmen Leading all the conflicts in History of Britain. Even in Afghanistan today.

  • @LolFishFail it was the welsh guards that planted the union jack in marjah first, even before the american marines planted the stars and stripes over the mosque.

  • @mackshayster I'm not really strong on that history, could you please give me some info! :)

I know that the Welsh Guards are leading the front-line in Afghanistan!

  • @mackshayster ha ha! fuck those glory stealing gits! one up for UK!

  • Rhyddid i Gymru!

    O brawd Gwyddelig! :)

  • @r1oo1 I take it that at least some of your ancestors were Zulus then. I know a few South Africans and people whose parents are South African, but I've never known someone who definitely has Zulu heritage (probably partly because most of these people I know are white).

  • @robsargent4 ...............Always been Welsh? can go back almost 470 years mostly from Anglesey

  • @r1oo1 Ah, when you said your family were against the British in this battle, I thought you meant they actually fought against the British in this battle. Clearly you meant that they simply supported the Zulus, but were not Zuluz themselves.

  • @r1oo1 Sorry, that's Zulus, not "Zuluz". Damn English spelling to hell (not that I really believe in hell, but you get the message).

  • cymru forever welsh men never yield

  • @tazmandon may god grant whales freedom, WELSH MEN NEVER YIELD!!!!!!!

  • @balrog262 and all other aquatic creatures!!!

  • @balrog262 Whales are animals, Wales is the country.

  • Damn fine song....

But I've gotta wonder, how many barroom brawls were started by some sod with poor hearing asking "Wait, you're a member of the HARLOT men?"

  • Holy damn.all this bitching and moaning over people who know-have different sources or recollections of history or simply don't know. May I suggest linking a page to the song history to stop bickering like this in the future.I'm English-I'm of the young generation,England become pussies PC crowd if you ask me-but I appreciate the song.I don't know what the history is,nor do I care. It's a fantastic song and it's a shame it can't be appreciated for the work hours and skill that went into it.

  • You should care for the history as that is what made the song, I know what you are trying to say, but don't be ignorant of traditions, it is because people feel history and tradition are un important that the PC crowd arises.

  • Whoa...pretty deep and morale building song.

  • Doesnt half make you proud, seeing the amount of biggoted numpties trying to claim songs for them and theirs. We all sacrifice for and protect our loved ones. Any one who thinks you would have been truly better off not being a part of Britain/U.K. (whichever part of it youre from) is an isolationalist muppet, no?

  • @cockneymcfadden1979 its a welsh song about fighting english armies which stop welsh people living in towns and getting jobs...you ignorant fucking pleb....read history you cunting thick twat

  • @3tangle3 arent you delightful, along with being incredibly useful in proving my point? Can you tell me what army exists in the world that is english? Far as i know its a british army? Unless of course youre referring historically? Now, historically speaking, how many countries have always been allies or always been foes? Times change and lets be thankful for that? Or do you believe it makes you happy and/or the world a better place for you to be a moaning, bitter, whingebag?

  • @cockneymcfadden1979 you talk so much bullsshit

  • @3tangle3 pot/kettle?!

  • @cockneymcfadden1979 but it is a welsh song about fighting english armies..........aaaargghhh the mind boggles at your lack of understanding...other welsh commentators here say the same thing because its the truth....read the lyrics...fighting saxon bowmen and spearmen? aww no it refers to the zulus hey?.....stop talking bull and open your arms to the truth

  • @3tangle3 indeed it is, i dont think ive ever said its origins were from england? Or confused a rousing scene from an albeit amazing movie with historical fact? Your problem is you get your knickers in a twist then react to something without prior reasoning. Im no more a saxon than you are a celt, get a grip for crying out loud...just think how much genetic lines have mixed since then?? Im not denying history but am recognising it as just that.

  • @cockneymcfadden1979 i was a wee bit inebriated last night.....i have nothing agaisnt individuals...just hate it when people deny things when they are the truth...e.g. just cos my welsh great grandmother was caned for speaking welsh does not mean i hate english people......just looking to the future and respect for welsh culture within Prydain fawr/ britain

    Heddwch

  • @3tangle3 ok well fair enough im sure ive been a bit of a keyboard warrior after a few ales. Culture is something that should be experienced and saved i agree, but i also think it should be shared. Ive been told to piss off back to england when some guy at an atm in wrexham heard my voice but dont hate the welsh, respects a two way street and i dont think revelling in our differences, cultural/historical/social etc, actually does any good. Peace out

  • @3tangle3 Hear hear.

  • @cockneymcfadden1979 i don;t care bout genetics...i love variety hence i am against culutural homogenuity

  • fuck the monarchy...the queen is alright she had to put up with her husband haha

  • @3tangle3 cock

  • @RobbieTyler1 cachu bant ti sais cunt...piss off back to saxony

  • @3tangle3 yeah, you had to translate it becuase nobody speaks the language.... in 2004 611,000 people (21.7% of the population of Wales in households or communal establishments) were able to speak Welsh...

  • @RobbieTyler1 and your point is...........numbers of people is relative.....compare the earths size to the universe...we are nothing you serville twat

  • @3tangle3 my point is, you nobody, that you knew full well that in order for anyone to understand your comment you would have to include a translation because nobody speaks your useless dead language. By forcing kids to learn it at school your country is doing them a dis-service as the only thing it will ever be any use for is to speak to each other in shops when British tourists come in. Better to teach them a decent subject they can use in the future to help them get a job.

  • @RobbieTyler1 people speak it you ignorant cunt wipe......o dear people are force to speak a language to communicate awww poor diddums...fucking man the fuck up you pussy footed gooch rag

  • @3tangle3 You have shown your intelligence by being unable to communicate with swearing or making threats. Fortunately for your country folk creatures such as you are a rare breed as the welsh, in general, are a nation of decent folk......

  • @RobbieTyler1 you are so ignorant its unbelievable

  • @3tangle3 nah, if being a petty, stupid, childish and xenophobic little nobody is your crime.. then it is also your punishment.

  • @RobbieTyler1 not my fault you can't handle the truth

  • @RobbieTyler1 xenophobic...coming from a man watching a video with scenes of zulus being shot.......pull the other one

  • @3tangle3 my family are from south africa and were against the british in this battle.

  • @RobbieTyler1 kk i apologise i was 'rather' drunk...but please do read about the songs history.......it was then used for the english civil war aswell......take care

  • @3tangle3 appology accepted. It is a fine song no matter who it was written for or by. Hope your weekend goes well.

  • @RobbieTyler1 there is nothing wrong with swearing

  • @3tangle3 I take it you have no children.... yes there is something wrong with swearing.

  • @RobbieTyler1 Not swearing is to repress yourself and be snobbish

  • @3tangle3 no.. knowing when swearing is acceptable is fine.. what you are doing is showing yourself to be an idiot.. but that is that and there is nothing you can do about it...

  • @RobbieTyler1 come to my area and say that you old fashioned imperialist shit stain

  • @3tangle3 yeah yeah yeah big hard nobody making threats over the intenert.. I bet you live in Llanddewi Brefi.

  • I'm English, but I think that this song is brilliant.

  • Has anyone been able to find a video of a different version of this on youtube? Not the one from Zulu, but the one that begins with "Men of Harlech in the hollow." If so I'd appreciate it if you could post a link. I'd love to hear a good quality audio clip of that version.

  • I've always loved listening to this wonderful song, but recently I've just discovered I have Welsh ancestry. Now this song has a whole new meaning to me. I know very little of Wales, yet this song makes me proud to claim that heritage. I shall now study Welsh history with vigor and enthusiasm.

  • Odd enough, the picture at 00:20 was painted by a Frenchman.

  • Bloody great version! Cymru am byth!

  • Thank you so very much for the lyrics. Do you know where i might find more lyrics to this song, since there are so many of them?

  • W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L

  • Gaelic alike, regards to our brothers, whas like us

  • @argyll1854 Dam' few, and they're all dead! :-)

  • W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L

  • excellent song, ive fought next to welshmen,im english and proud to call them friends.

  • Hail from England.

May the Gods preserve and watch over Wales and her proud sons and daughters.

May we never forget their bravery and sacrifice.

  • everytime i hear this tears

  • Epic song, absolutely love it! I dont care that the 24th foot probably never sang this song during Rorkes drift, when I first heard this song at about age 9 when I saw Zulu, I fell in love with it.

Is this the original version? I know the Zulu version is not the original song.

  • @kjm45cal no the original was different there are 3 versions of Men of Harlech.

  • @Wolftamer63 thanks. :)

  • Love this song! one of the most epic songs ever made!

  • Do you have the mp3 for this? I've searched Amazon under their digital mp3 downloads but I cannot find THIS version of the song! It's by far my favorite.

  • @januseva yes i found it on internet about Rorke's Drift, i'll try to find it again for you
