On the contrary, the dialogue in this bit has to be one of the best and most clever parts of any script in Hollywood history. Just remember it's a comedy, it's not meant to be accurate or correct - just funny.

The script really sucked; it was the actors that made it work, such as it did. The villains "plan" was never clear, nor were Casanova's motivations, and his female partner disappears as soon as she's introduced. Stiller shared his frustration with the director and the non-existent script in an interview many years later. Who knows what a rewrite and a (much better) director would have done?

Oh, and even the creator, Bob Burden, was disappointed in the script....

I'd agree, but "The Great Race" is more akin to a horrible comedic car crash than a good movie. "Galaxy Quest" was certainly better than it deserved to be, however.

Casanova is awesome. The real mindfuck in this exchange is that what Captain Amazing said was correct, and Casanova says that same thing even as he denies it.

"But I didn't, I only (knew you'd know that I knew)."

The parts is brackets are essentailly the same statement: (Casanova knows that Amazing knows that Casanova knows).
