  • Can we still post videos for this? I mean, not for the contest, but if we like the backing track and we just wanted to make a solo for it just cbecause it's that awesome? You know, just for fun?

  • @Uberado yes sure thing!

  • hey at 2:42 till 2:47 the thing played is it a guitar playing , i love that tone , please tell me what is it. i have been trying to find out how to get that tone. thanks

  • @TheDanceofjoy That is Alex Argento on keys... trading off solos with Marco Sfogli. See description for where to buy the CDs details.

  • @lauriemonk sir, thank you very much for such a quick reply, i will check out Marco's stuff right away.

  • in which tone is the backing track?

  • the keybordist is ALEX ARGENTO!!!

  • yep sure is...

  • I would have been into this, anyway had a little jam this afternoon and done a quick vid.. I've posted it as a response or check it out at my channel. Look forward to the next one...

  • great job man!

  • Cheers man!

  • Cheers man!

  • is the track in this entire video one in the same, guitar and all?

  • The music in the video is from Marco Sfogli. See the description for the details of where you can purchase. The music details are;

    Backing Track: Spread the disease

    Video Music: Sunset Lights

  • Damn, I wouldve been into this backing track. Next time round maybe.

  • The backing tracks there... record a video post and add as a response... it's it's good, end up on my blog too.

  • am anxious to know who are the winners.XD

  • see the winners video... it;s in the response list

  • who won? there is a top list? where can i see it?

  • I think i'm somewhere in top 315! :)

    Looking forward to the results.

  • I looked at the list... that's a safe bet!

  • Ufff, I'm sure of that!! O_O

  • @lauriemonk: Oooooooh, fantastic!!!!

  • I hope to post the winners video tonight.

  • Yiiiipiiii, great news Lauri!

If it's not problem, put some list also? Maybe top 5 from each judge blended together or something?

  • there were some contractual issues that made me not publish a top 40 list this time. I need to confirm, but I would like to publish some of my work in getting to my top list.

  • wow.. really enjoy watching u guys shredding.. even now I still jam to this track.. as I said, it's a cool track.. the winner result waiting, I can't wait but it doesn't bother me that much. The important thing is, I enjoy this track & appreciate all the networks built among guitarist here. U guys are awesome! Shred on!

  • While we are all waiting and biting our nails... can you give us some more insight on how in particular the winner will be chosen? I mean: Will the 5 judges give their personal TOP 10 and you will pick the five with the most votes in total?

  • When will we have the results?

  • hello motto...I just gave up waiting.. :(

  • soon.. buddy... soon... computers only work at a certain speed

  • Hey, for everyone complaining about how long this is taking: I'm still awaiting the results of The Absence's "Shred Off" challenge, which happened back in July. Took about 2 days after the deadline for them to narrow it down to a Top 8 (which I'm in), but here we are 7 months later, with no winner, LOL. So, have some patience. Things could be a lot worse. :)

  • LOL... I'd thought that had finished to... I think the Saxon one is till going as well! It is a tough job to organise an international competition and get all the "ducks in a row" but I think it will be worth it... We're almost there I can assure you!

  • @larkinguitar

Last I heard from Peter, he said that the winner of the contest they held would be posted in the next studio diary thingymajig.

No bleemin' idea when that comes out though.

  • 1 month was the time for all the entries to be done and 1 month for the results to be published...sounds pretty fair to me :P

  • Could You check out my entry, please?? Thank You:)

  • this was my first time entering any type of guitar competition!! i loved watching different approaches from everyone to the backing track and had a lot of fun putting my solo together!!! thx to the judges and everyone that put this together i'm definitely entering whenever there's a new one. i feel the playing by some people is a little out of my league tho haha especially when i see they have cd's or are sitting in their recording studios---im just a kid at college that loves to play guitar :D

  • you have to start somewhere. We have guys from all over the world adding their work., all in different circumstances... we listen to the talent, not the studio.

  • Hey man , so when is the next competition starting?

  • we are working on it... it would be nice to finish this one first though ;)

  • You could also watch MY entry while waiting for the results. I mean... You could. :)

  • Everyone, check out my video while your waiting for the results!!

  • may be have a go at the next competition!

  • wait, is it over, who won?

  • the entries are only two minutes Garret and the other person. Its not a good idea to watch other contestants and this point in the competition because it makes them even more anxious. :(

  • it doesn't matter... just look at as many of the players videos as possible... give them your time... they deserve it!

  • Hey here's an idea... while waiting for the results everyone can check out my entry! :D

    [2]

  • lauriemonk, we'll geeting anxious about the result, I think there'are so many variables to evaluate, there's a way to make the process easier?

Just take those who acomplish your requirement... bye :)

  • Hey here's an idea... while waiting for the results everyone can check out my entry! :D

  • this contest should have 300 winners! all are great!

  • I totally agree, anyone who entered, had the courage to have their video scrutinised by so many people, deserves a medal!

  • im not complaining about anything but the winners will probably be announced in 1 month or so. i doubt it its gonna be any faster. it was like that with the previous competition. i know is hard to judge, but you gotta get it done

  • we're aiming for the end of the weekend... with luck and a following wind...

  • @lauriemonk

thats great, i was not complaining, its just that is heart shattering on the viewers because they made the competition possible and now they need to have an anxiety attack before they find out the results.

but anyways, thanks for the competition

  • It sounds like you're complaining. They will get it done with time, you try figuring out a system that works, and properly evaluates over 300 guitar players.

  • well. first round: sort out all those without a chance. 50 or so remain. second round: create a top 15 in one go. whoever gets pushed out, stays out. first impression is the best and counts more than technicalities, if you ear is trained, it suffices. rehearse top 15, select 5. submit.

    300 + 50 + 15 +- error term (20) = 385 videos, 2 minutes each: 770 minutes total, or half a day. add breaks tiredness etc. ~ 18 hours of work

    that EASY ^^

  • @ Chisuz Dam... that's where we went wrong! Good formula, you just need to add some additional variables. Need to factor in people being professionals in their field and working full time, being in different locations across the globe, different time zones, internet challenged... families... and the big one... we have different musical taste ;) ... so I'm thinking something more like e=mc^2

  • the worst case: every judge has a different top 5 =))) well THAT is a coordination problem haha!

anyways, a great contest and so many skilled participants, just get 300+ giveaways ;)

  • This isn't a math problem dude. You still don't seem to grasp how many variables Monk mentions. When you're looking at guitar players, it isn't just technique, it's feeling, creativity, originality, humor, presence, tone, and much more. Accept it just isn't 1+1=2.

  • *sigh*

  • Chisuz got a good formula, but you got it more accurate. I can't imagine what it is to gather up five or more extremely busy people in different parts of the world and come to a consensus. I imagine you had to wait and wait for the others to move on in order to go for the next step. What I would like to know is why is this taking too long now if everything is pretty much done? what's left the video?? perhaps editing the video?? I just would like to understand, that's all.

  • @ Chisuz... If only things were that easy dude... haha

  • 3:15 says:

    "Best of luck and remember:

    - Marco's waiting!!!"

Shows how things are changing fast in today's world. :))

  • Yes good point.... not long now and we are done... organising and doing this stuff does take time... but it's worth it for you guys and gals... particularly as you know that there will be another super shred this competition coming along soon.

  • @lauriemonk is the music in the backround from marco's solo album elements of persuasion if not though what is it I love it!

  • It's from Marco's solo album, but that's titled "There's Hope." "Elements of Persuasion" is James Labrie's album that Marco played guitar on

  • @theguitfiddle thanks sorry got mixed up!

  • I have to admit I definately wouldn't like to be the one to choose but the waiting is killing me!! haha i cant wait for the results!

  • just waiting for the video now

  • this is not fun anymore.... :(

  • how much longer?? ;)

  • You guys are really great at creating tension Laurie:-)

In the meantime I've forgot all the 10.000 notes of the 2nd half of my entry:D

  • LOL... seriously buddy... you'll know not long after I know! I am as excited as you!

  • Haha, I love how you add more and more annotations to the contest video, Laurie! :)

  • cheers man!

  • It seems that several people are just going around and giving rating - 1 to everybody. It's obvious on each video that has only several ratings... and some of them are quite good. Well... :|

  • no worries man... you just met the youtube trolls who like nothing more than spoiling it all with out giving anything back in return... just to let you know that we did not take account of rating of view count when judging...

  • I just updated the video.

  • today is 16th of february

this is a never ending story...))))

this time is enough for a whole general election...))))

    really busy judges...))))

  • Hi Mika... we working on it... those general election guys are paid... or bribed! no long now

  • I was not serious, I'm just kidding!)))

  • LOL... I was hoping for a large bribe ;)

  • Cannot wait for that TOP 20... :P

  • an update posted on my blog...

  • In my opinion, top 4 are:

    -GarrettJPeters

    -Karolina Sustova

    -Marius Pop

    -Angel Ruiz

  • Thank you for putting me into your top list. I really appreciate it. :)

  • @greywrath Thank you for putting me on your list as well. Means a lot

  • Wow, you have included Ángel Ruiz in your top five ;)

  • can't wait for the next contest! :-)

This thing has been very entertaining for weeks now! Greets to all of you!

  • we're working on it ;)

  • This was my first musical competition ever so I've lost my virginity:)))) Many thx! It was a big fun!!!! Saw great Guitarplayers and played on a great Backin Track

  • damnit im too late ;( will there ever be a nother contest

  • This contest is a great promotion for talented guitarists and a good way to create some kind of a guitar society in order to inspire one another and keep everybody on track! This is my first participation and i am very excited by the whole idea!Great job Laurie!

  • who won?

  • still to be announced...

  • we are almost there... Marco is the man... he's picking those winners... only a matter of time now...

  • i support top 20!

  • Marco says: 0:34

  • 0:34 was also competition track? Or it's next one? :P

  • Hey guys (judges), can you make top 20 or something? Not necessarily in any particular order, just to have top list for watching.

Btw, I checked some older competitions... this back-track rocked comparing to anything else that I've heard.

    Cheers everyone!!!

  • getting very close!!!

  • Hurry up ! I can't wait any more !! ;-)

  • We're almost there now... thanks for hanging in with us!

  • Hei visit my account and check my entry please

  • when you will put the result?

which site you will put the names of the winners?

  • we are working on it... nearly there for the first round... I'll be keeping you guys and gals posted. You played amazing and this has added to the difficulty of finding those stand out cuts!!

  • OK my friend, when you're ready let me know the result please OK?

  • @arnaldoallves Subscribe to the awesome and marvellous truthinshreddingDOTcom run by Laurie and you will see the second it is announced! :D

  • @markmcguigan I did it...but still can't see that announcement..

  • I'll be publishing the response as soon as we have it... 300+ videos, 5 guys, 3 or 4 time zones... watching commenting, marking... beating each other up... then! The winner!

  • @lauriemonk I know it's a hard work and it takes a lot of time with so many videos... I seldom post a comment also with the hope that mine will be watched :-)

  • all of the videos are watched... I have seen all of them at least twice... and some of them at least 5 times.

  • @lauriemonk about 300 videos x about 2 minutes each x at least twice each... about 20 hours of actual time watching...I don't envy you that! :-)

I regret that I asked for the results without giving thought to the immensity of that work

  • definitely send me a message when the winners are announced, i want to see their videos

  • bravo!! for the kids that are participating in this competition!! as an Elementary guitar teacher, there nothing more beautiful to see kids participate in these wonderful competitions!! I encourage my students to do a jam!!

  • @Lekuer leonardo bravo! now i realize this is you. guys, check out this guy playing classical guitars. he is from argentina, but he lives in japan now, and he is doing great!!!

  • @andyvicius @Lekuer Leonardo Bravo is amazing! Really cool to see him checking out this competition. Everyone needs to hear his version of Gismonti's "Frevo" for solo guitar on the Festival Guitarras Del Mundo 2001/2002 CD

  • My favorites are:

    Mark day

    Andy Wood

    Muris Varajic

  • @MyCrazyProject Thanks!

  • great list, it's a tough! I'm going through for the 4th time

  • @MyCrazyProject thanks alot,Im glad you liked it...

  • great guitar players in this competition!

  • I take my hat off to the judges, this is a hell of a lot of work.

    My favorites so far:

    -Reny Hansen (cleanest picking EVER!)

-Tum Siamrath (very, very nice phrasing!)

-Marius Pop (you surprised me at the end, that

was great. Really like that you had a repeating

    pattern at the beginning)

-Guitarholic777 (totally, totally underrated solo. Very nice middle section over the slow part of the solo)

-Martin 'Wischi' Wichmann (Liked the style and the

sound of your stuff, keep it up!)

  • thanks for the list and descriptions!

  • Lots of great entries. Must be pretty hard to narrow down. I like lots of them and, IMHO, these two entries should be among the best - very clean, précised, and very well composed.

    Tum Siamrath and Damjan Pejcinoski

  • wow big competition !! I couldn' t participate to this one !! but good luck to all contestant !! I saw some great entries there !!

and good luck for all jugdes ! it must be an awful job hehe

  • I haven't heard them all but I really like these so far:

    Damjan's

    Tum Siamrath

    Wischi

    Andres Ludmer

    David Pagano

Perhaps I'll update after I watch the rest of the ones I missed, some seriously sick competition going on in this one though. You judges better lock yourself in a dark room for a few weeks until you reach a verdict!

  • @theguitfiddle thanks mate!

  • Hey Mr. Ludmer! Your entry was one of my faves, which means a LOT in a contest like this. Also check out guitfiddles stuff, he's one of my fave discoveries on youtube!

  • yes lots of great solos to pick from... will no doubt end up want to kill each other to get that top list!

  • the more you shred , the bigger the chances to win, am I right laurie??

  • the more the judges like your playing, the more likely you are to win ;)

  • you know I was joking, right? hehe. ;)

  • laurie, I think it's easier if the judges decides between 5 videos. They select one of five, after that they select one of other five.. after all, they do the same process. In the end it will rest only the best solos..

  • I don't think this makes sense:

doing that way it can happen that you pick 5 of the best at one time...

  • hello... we have to go through 300 plus videos first.

  • Comment removed

  • far too many to listen to them all ^^

  • but that's just what we have to do

  • Comment removed

  • All yalls, take a peek at mine and perhaps consider a non-shreddy kind of solo over a shreddy track :D thanks a ton

  • Things go better unasked but check out my takes for this competition, specially the "last take"...appreciate it :) rate and comment....
