I loved pilot wings as a kid (still do), love the music. used to play it with my dad into the late hours of the night. i always found the game to be very relaxing. Shame they don't make an updated version. thank you
Hey all, just wanted to let you know that I posted an early demo of the song that became the Rocketbelt theme and another demo track I did just before beginning Pilot Wings 64 on my channel. They weren't fully developed at that time, just sequences I created. Would love to know what you think of them. Thanks!
Unbelievable! Love all the comments! I'm Dan Hess, I wrote the soundtrack for Pilotwings 64. I just have to say how cool it is to find out that there were so many kids who dug the soundtrack. Thanks so much for posting this.
@harmfulifconsumed I haven't played the game yet but have viewed some youtube videos. Music sounds good. Would have been nice to have the current music capabilities on the old N64!
@SonicArtist313 What other games did you compose the music to? I'm very grateful you created such an awesome track for my 90's childhood. I was wanting to ask if you gained inspiration from Kool and the Gang and Celebrate for the Gyrocopter? Also, the Birdman mission sounds very similar to R. Kelly's I believe I Can Fly. Is that by coincidence or design?
@fsmith9106 I composed the music for F-1 World Grand Prix in '98 before the market became flooded. That is so funny that you asked about the Kool and the Gang reference! That part of the Gyrocopter track was a late addon and originally was without that horn line. The line itself came from an old track I worked on as a kid, more of a Rush piece, but somehow morphed in to that line. Guess I must have had that old tune floating around in my brain, certainly not by design! LOL!
@SonicArtist313 Pilot Wings 64 is yet still one of those games I still play these days, have N64 plugged on for nostalgia :D. The game itself was great because of all the easter eggs and other fun you could do but also the music was so great, especially "Jungle Hopper" makes me still smile when I listen to it. You have done well composing the music to this great game!
@SonicArtist313 Dude, your music is godly. Whenever I hear pilotwings music, I think of my childhood. And that's all because of how beautiful and catchy you made it.
@SonicArtist313 I've had the game forever but today I beat pilot wings for the first time (on the real console) and in the credits I was sure to look for the "music composer" to see who it was. Incredible work man. What other games have you composed music for? You're up there with koji kondo and the other greatest movie/game music composers!
@SonicArtist313 Well, thank you so much for this music! I used to go around whistling these songs, years after my N64 broke, and they still mean a lot to me. This made my childhood and now, it's made my day again!
@SonicArtist313 Hey! Dan Hess, First off I would like to say thank you for your work on Pilot Wings 64. I love the game and soundtrack. How did you get into composing music? Did you go to school for it? How did you land a job with Nintendo? And my last question say someone wanted to sample your music for a Hip Hop track. How would they go about clearing it with you to get rights to use it? Would you be willing to lease someone the rights? Thanks for your time!
My only memory of this game other than the great music was.. "slight left.. slight left.. slight left.. almost through the mountains... slight left.. GUST OF WIND IM DEAD SHIT FFS ARGGHHGHHHHHHH"
When this game first came out I was pissed off at how it didn't really feel like it kept true to the original enough, I mean look at the logo for god sakes!! So I never really bothered playing the game at all and felt it sucked at the time.
But seeing everyone with their nostalgic goggles on praising the game, and I having actually given the game a chance since then, I too feel this nostalgic love for it for what it is. It is a good game as well, the music is certainly a plus about it as well.
I remember when I got my 64, this game came with it. This was technology. I was thrilled. I was a little kid and I was so happy I got it. Now that I hear this track, it brings back that feeling.
They just don't make games like this anymore. A era where people put there heart and soul into. Nowadays. there just not the same. Where did video games go wrong?
My favourite songs on the N64 have to be Dire, Dire Docks from Mario 64 and this song. Both extremely brilliant!! You don't hear these tunes in many games now.
Wow, this brings back some memories. Next to Rogue Squadron, this game was easily my favorite for the 64 and I always loved the music in it. Used to play this for hours and hours, just sight seeing.
I know.... this was the third videogame that I ever played in my lifetime, and it helped solidify my love for Nintendo, and other videogames. This series needs a third!
I need to get this song on my ipod so i can go drive down by the lake and turn it up fuckin loud and smoke some weed with a 44 ounce coke in hand, and a shitload of other munchies. Thats really all i've ever wanted out of life
Ahhh, the good ol' days, this song alone made me love this game and hearing it now 12 years later is a nice childhood flashback. I remember when I would play the game, not caring about the missions, but just flying around with this playing. If I ever do any real hang gliding, I want my iPod to have this song.
this is wabetter than birdman song tho i respect everyones opinion but think about it hang gliding in real life while lookin at sceneray no matter where you are while listening to this song that would be amazingy
