Actually, I think Volz or Hartman added some of their own also. If you listen to all three vesrions there are differences in all three lyrics.

I love this song, and the fact that we have different versions to listen and to enjoy, depending on what kind of rock you like. I respect Petra's versions of this song (this and the live version). Kiss version is OK. Bride's version is interesting and I like it too.
This album has a secret weapon. Greg X. Volz! I just found that out. This the first time I've heard this album. I was a bit young when "Come And Join Us" was released in 1977. I was born in '73, lol. I discovered the '79 and '81 albums after I came to Christ in 1995.
I thought it´a great cover...but honestly I think when the vocals start..the words are just cutted to sharp, I don´t know... guess it´s just a kind of taste - the music is great!

@mwltexas I think the Stanley name is attached now because he added new lyrics for the movie version. I don't believe he was attached to the original in the 70's. Actually, I think Volz or Hartman added some of their own also. If you listen to all three vesrions there are differences in all three lyrics.

In hopes of settling things a bit, the song was actually written by Russ Ballard, who later worked with KISS on several albums. Argent was the first to record it in 1973, then Petra remade it in 1977 and again in 1985, then KISS did its own version in 1991 for the movie, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

@troyrfields ummmm....sorry, Petra did not write this song....a British band called Argent originally wrote this song back in 1973. Petra covered it for their album and changed some of the lyrics to make it sound "Christian" then later in the 90's KISS covered it as well

@19strat57 Then you might not be a big fan of many hymns. Charles Wesley and other musicians simply took drinking songs of their day and replaced the words with Christian lyrics. I really don't see the difference today; praise God if this helps to reach people.

Oh, yeah. Rock & Roll has to be about rebellion & not conforming to Christianity dogma. There's a difference between what you think rock should be and what it really is. It all sounds the same, so just don't worry about it. Just ignore it if you don't like how it's Christian. You can relate it to politics; there's democratic and republican. Two differences, but they are BOTH forms of govt. I don't see why it's so hard for you to accept that rock & roll doesn't have to be what you want it to be.

Petra didn't even write this song; Argent did (a mainstream rock band). So it wasn't "kidnapped by the secular side of music", it's not even an inherently Christian song, although there's definitely nothing wrong with Petra singing it!

This song was originally written and sang by a kick ass rock band called Argent. They also sang Hold Your Head Up. KISS later covered this song. I do like this version, however.

There is a God, just your perception of it is not everybody elses, for example the big bang, evolution can be represented as God.
The notion of God, in it's nature is subjectiive, no matter what any book or story says.
That's called free will, it will help you, along with logic.

If the world was creating through evolution, over millions of years, then God does not exist. If you used logic then you would understand that. If "God" as he is described in the bible existed, do you really think he'd allow every "christian" world leader in history to distort his "truth" into a system which directly benefits only that one monarch? there is something to be said about the 500 different translations of the Bible. IF you pick up a hebrew text of what we call the old testament and study some history on it, you will find that only 6 letters have been changed in how long? 4000 years?

OK, let us set the record straight here. This song was written by Russ Ballard, guitarist and vocalist for the band ARGENT, led by former Zombies keyboardist Rod Argent. Petra (they covered this twice the other is from the album Beat The System - a rather bland cover than this one), Bride and even KISS will never claim this is their original. Go ahead search the internet and all credit will be given to Russ Ballard.

I love this song, and the fact that we have different versions to listen and to enjoy, depending on what kind of rock you like. I respect Petra's versions of this song (this and the live version). Kiss version is OK. Bride's version is interesting and I like it too.

This album has a secret weapon. Greg X. Volz! I just found that out. This the first time I've heard this album. I was a bit young when "Come And Join Us" was released in 1977. I was born in '73, lol. I discovered the '79 and '81 albums after I came to Christ in 1995.
