not to argue but at that time era that was their imagination and director then. so long as they liked it, it should be compared from the 80s to the present. I bet if they ever decide to remake their old school videos ...you would be speechless :p.
@44mikachu hey..my apologies! please disregard my previous comments! there was a case of mistaken identity! in other words I thought you were someone else, so sorry. happy holidaze!! Depeche Mode rules!!
I'm going to assume you're a troll, albeit not a very convincing one.You see, I am having an hard time taking somebody seriously that goes into fanboy rage mode over a 27 year old music video DepecheMode themselves loathe
But in case you really ares serious (lots of mentally insane fanboys & fangirls out there) I can only tell you: Fuck the video! That song works perfectly fine on its own and doesn't need any video, least of all one that is embarrassing for the band
Let's see if I get you right here: You go absolutely nuts over my opinion, which is far from subjective, and contains a few well known FACTS, such as Depeche Mode themselves absolutely hating most of their early videos, so much so that they never included them in any video collection of their own. Did that really turn your sad existence upside down?
Who cares about some old video anyway? The song is what matters, and I didn't critisize that did I?
I also remember a competition on Swedish tv channel ZTV, in the late 90s, where people could vote (by letter or post card?) the best and worst videos ever done. Sinead O'Conner's Nothing compares 2 U was in the top 5. Best video of all was was Enjoy the silence.. And worst video was this one. Depeche surely have lots of devoted fans.
I remember in like 1994 when I first visited Internet and searched for Depeche Mode. I found some interesting fansites and also a massive fan poll. This song got very high points, perhaps being the song of the 80s (only Depeche) with the highest points of all. Just sort of my first Internet memory, I just wanted to share. ;)
@beitos44 being a huge depeche mode, that also the first thing when i first got internet at home in 96. I remember having subscribed to the mail group, great fan sites(like halo's) and the official website. I visited DM's site and it was written that ''DM writes song for Princess Di'' and below there was the lyrics of ''New Dress' I couldn't understand if they were being ironic or not : ) Good times...
@xyla5000 Hi, Yes I very much so agree!, it kinda did not reach out as it was a single release between (and not on) albums, I consider this song 'obviously' as the last of the 'Broken frame' sound, yes the end of the beginning of you care!
@craigferrett, I hear ya. But the song is such a perfect New Romantic song, I would have liked to see something slick and beautify (like OMD's Joan of Arc).
@craigferrett, Fantastic! If only we could have had the Futurist, New Romantic and New Pop movements with the level of technology we have today (digital video editing, CGI, DVD, High Def) what a party that would have been.
Imagine a set list with Get The Balance Right, It's Called a Heart, Barrel Of A Gun, Fly on The Windscreen, New Dress, Sacred It's just a Dream on.....
You think you've got a hold of it all,You haven't got a hold at all,When you reach the top,get ready to drop,Prepare yourself for the fall.....................
I think you're right. The voice is quite the same of Dave Gahan's, but the sound of that period was already more powerful, last night I listened to Tora! Tora!! Tora!!! live (B side of Get the balance right 12" version, my FIRST DM RECORD bought in 1983!)
Does somebody knows what kind/model of synthesizer do they use in this song?
Thank you, and sorry my english.

I heard on the radio today that the director for this clip wasn't aware that Dave Gahan was the singer, he believed that was Alan Wilder.
So when he beginned to shoot he told Wilder "Ok you come from this way and you sing" and nobody from the band disagree.

Such a fine song ruined by such a lame video.
One can say Anthony Corbijn really was what Depeche Mode needed from Black Celebration onwards.
Depeche Mode themselves refuse to watch many of their early videos and haven't even released them. The video to "Leave in Silence" is even worse.
