Why did he need to hike through all that snow to see deer in Hokkaido? I drove through Shiretoko last summer amongst other places in Hokkaido and I saw/counted approximately at least 30 deer - most of which were grazing at the roadside. The Shiretoko pass from Utoro to Raosu was so misty and horrible that I very nearly crashed into a bigger stag than they show in the clip as he was standing on the kerbside round a bend!

I'm in Japan at the moment, it's really only Tokyo thats got the huge population as everyone wants to work/live there. Even if you catch the train a hour outside Tokyo it's countryside. If you go south Japan it's Tropical islands and this video is more up north. Hardly anyone lives outside the main cities (osaka, kyoto and tokyo)
