  • RESPECT THE IRISH 'NO'!!! I HOPE CROATIA WILL FOLLOW YOUR EXAMPLE!

  • Iam glad to have irish blood in my viens..FIGHT!FIGHT!FIGHT!

  • thanks Ireland!

  • Where are the jobs and the recovery now you stupid yes voting fucks!!! You people are so fucking handicapped, set the way for us to pay off the debts of our bank slave masters in Europe, you stupid fucks!!

  • Good on ireland. I am against abortion in every case EXCEPT rape (because rape is theft of a womens body). The baby is burned and choked by the process of abortion. Their little hands and feet are literally torn apart

  • @smithbrain: If rape is the theft of a womans body - isn't abortion the theft of a baby's life? You see we can't be against abortion for one thing and say it's ok for another because the baby is not at fault for being conceived.

  • @celticlofts you are right I have changed my views since I posted that comment I am against abortion PERIOD

  • Seems whatever the Irish do these days, its always a mess for everyone else. Ireland or Iceland, doesn´t matter its all Greece, but the latter at least have nice weather and decent food :-)

  • People don't realize that the EU is slowly taking away the power from the people and attempting to reform a European State free of borders. They want to do away with nationalism.

  • We have benefited a lot and we have given back even more, the fishing area off of Donegal is worth billions and we just gave it away to the rest of europe

  • what is the lisbon treaty?

  • Video of a Pyrrhic victory. Classic.

    hb151

  • But the agenda came back for a second time and acheived the result they wanted.

This is all fixed, never be fooled by this democratic nonsense.

  • ireland vote yes !!!!! thank you from greece

  • Hahaha Ireland finally votes yes !!

    Good job

    Peace also from The Netherlands

  • Ireland has Voted YESSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!

This is A great day For Ireland And a Great day For Europe. Thank you Ireland!!! Peace prevails. Anyone who was still against Europe is a War loving fool. Europe has seen enough wars. We need Peace. War Never Again. Europeans United. Love and Peace from Holland.

  • Stick all that shit up your ass

the people of ireland who voted yes should hang thier heads in shame.

  • @IRiShxBaNdiTxxxRaTeD no not hang their head in shame hang them

  • Yep the economy is bad and those of us that can emmigrate are..........BUT why should we? seriously if you think 27 countries that most have already been world powers and have different cultrures are going to gracefully share power dream on.

  • everybody needs to get out and vote NO,

  • im voting no again.

  • NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.

YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.

    Who you going to trust?

  • VOTE NO AGAIN!

  • A Yes vote will flood the country with cheap scab foreign contract labour.putting the working irishman out of a job. Its a wonder Ryanair & Intel want it. Votail Nil.

  • Recent opinion polls say that Ireland will vote yes.

    Please vote NO.

Jose Manuel Barroso has stated if Ireland vote no again they will have some of their rights in Europe taken away such as the ability to nominate eu commissioners.

This is tantamount to bullying and is very resemblant of Nazi Germany.

  • Fucking Irish government fuck the eu. Ireland belongs to the Irish Vote NO

  • You sound like a chicken ire4evr..

  • Vote NO keep Ireland ours!

  • EU v IMF

    You Decide.

  • Come on voters..... Keep saying NO......

Don't let them take away our say in our beautiful country, this could be the last vote you have, remember that!!!!!

    VOTE NO

  • I voted NO the last time and i will definitely be voting NO this time again.. If all 27 countries had been given the opportunity to vote then it would have been a different story. To me, before i ever even went and found out the last time what was the Lisbon treaty was all about i had found out that we are the only country that are able to vote on this.. This fact alone meant that no way would i vote yes for a treaty when almost half a billion people had no say in it. Its Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i wanna be nowhere NEAR the 'centre of power' in europe,my current 'centre of power' is only a 3 hour drive away and thats bad enough! I SAID NO AND WILL SAY IT AGAIN!

  • Sweden was promised to be part and affect Europe as well when we entered the European Union.

"Say Yes or we will be left out of Europe and our economy will suffer."

During our 14 years of membership, do you know how much Sweden has decided in the EU parliament?

The neutral states who said No, such as Norway or Switzerland have surpassed us tremendously in trade and economy.

Say NO to the Lisbon treaty, say NO to the European Union.

  • Swedish members of the European parliament has managed to determine the outcome of ONE single matter during 14 years.

Except that, we've had an -insane- amount of laws forced upon us. Useless laws that rip open our economy and our workers unions.

We pay 30 billion SEK for EU membership every year, we gain approximately 18 billion SEK back through trade.

That's a loss of 12 billion SEK in membership, but none dares comment.

  • Norway has succeeded because of it's oil resources and Switzerland because of it's banks. They are special cases, and extremely bad examples. The economy of the Eastern Europe, on the other hand, has had a rapid boost in economy after they joined the EU, but I guess that wasn't worth mentioning, right? As if EU is the reason of every bad thing in the world. Without EU, our economies would come crushing down. Why meddle in endless petty disputes between single states?

  • Every country has an industry which is higher than that of others. Yes, Norway has it's oil. We have loads of iron and a car-production (Which now is suffering just as every other industry).

Of course Eastern Europe benefits from it, they contribute in accordance to their economy and get more support back than they are forced to contribute with.

We're discussing economy in a 'union' where 1 million Euro disappears each day due to corruption. Oh the irony.

  • You are absolutely right about corruption, but it doesn't ruin the entire organization nor does it make it's ideals less worthy.

One of the point of Lisbon treaty is to make decision making more efficient and to cut byrocracy and corruption. EU, a any organization, has it's flaws, and I find it a bit difficult to comprehend what's wrong with reforming it to a more efficient form.

  • "Oh No No No No dont funk with my vote'

IRELAND please please please vote NO.

If you do your officially the smartest country in Europe.. I did not even get to vote :/

at least we know Irish people still have rights,

    Damn Lisbon.. VOTE NO

  • What a load of bullshit!!!! The treaty can not be ratified without unanimous consent from the twenty seven member states.

  • Good stuff brothers in Ireland! Hold those bankers out! Us in america have a nasty fight infront of us, from this corrupt bank owned government. I hope our brothers in Ireland are supporting us in this battle for are constitution back! Bravo friends bravo!

  • the EU NAU sucks

  • 2008 campaign slogan . "If you dont know vote no". 2009 campaign slogan. "If you still dont know vote no". DONT LET THE GOVERNMENT OR CORRUPT MEDIA INFLUENCE YOU. WE DO NOT NEED THIS IRELAND. THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE. VOTE NO.

  • Please vote NO to the Lisbon Constitution. It is not good enough to have a European Constitution that reads like a phone book and that only the Irish citizens get to vote on. Democracy is in the hands of the Irish people. Voting no to Lisbon will not change the economic situation for the better or the worse. This is a tactic being used by the Government and certain media with vested interests in a yes vote to distract from the actual content of the Treaty. Please do not be fooled, vote NO.

  • no to lisbon treaty 2. its a banksters treaty.

  • Well done the Irish dont let the euro slave state dictate to you .

    an english man

  • @spursloyal71 ya pity cown persuaded us to say yes

  • Thank you Ireland!

  • Indeed. Thank you Ireland!

  • The EU risks too much. What if the Irish Voters again vote no?

Will the EU want to repeat it _again_ ?

I doubt any normal person would accept if the EU would try to force the irish voters to vote again and again until the EU accepts this decision.

Democratic decisions must be respected. If the EU fails to do so, it lost its legal right to govern the people of Europe.

  • what's happening with lisbon 2 , i think the work has to be put in now , people are more scared than last year and the government will use this to pass it this time , the no side has to start working now and harder than before

  • Why would people wish to move from once masonic zionist superstate to another? EU = Americanism + Sovietism. EU is politically against every single tradition of Europe's nations and peoples. Fuck freemasonry, NWO, zionism.

  • 'most benefited'. Ireland has given more than it has recieved.Try research next time.

  • The IRISH PEOPLE say NO!

  • DOWN WITH COWEN UP WITH LABOUR

  • That's simply untrue. There is a recession across Europe. Every nation is screwed, economically speaking.

The EU will be unable to help Ireland in any way shape or form.

  • Ireland beware !

The Lisbon Treaty ( Article 33,paragraph 6 ) allows the un-elected EU executive the right to change or declare null & void ALL rules/regulations/laws present in existing treaties relating to the ECONOMY ;TAX ;CIVIL SOCIETY ;environment etc.

    « Sorry,this is a dictatorial constitution » (Prof. Schachttschneider, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg).

Save our freedoms and democracy !

Vote in the coming European elections in 2009.

  • Comment removed

  • Rubbish.

  • Its shit the way we have to vote again i mean it kinda killing the point of democracy. Dont vote the way we want and wel just keep making you vote until we get the answer we want

  • Vote for this ?

« The EU can lawfully suppress political criticism of its institutions and of leading public figures « (European Court of Justice ruling 2001).

The European Charter of Fundamental Rights (art.2,passage 2) states that LETHAL force (i.e.live ammo) can be used during « rioting, civil upheaval & during war ».

The same Charter of RIGHTS does not mention ANYWHERE the RIGHT of EU citizens to vote.

    Perhaps they forgot.

Remind them in the European elections in June 2009.

  • Ireland, vote NO again at next U.E. referendum for the Treaty from Lisabona

  • wow, she's hot!

  • Ireland is a real worry. Someone said the return of the potato famine in Ireland.

  • Think thats funny you stupid wigger cunt?

  • Irish, vote NO, show em the bastards, that we, the people, are still PEOPLE, not the cattle. Regards from Poland and hope for your NO. To hell with socialist EU and their EU-beaurocratic tries to manipulate whole mankind.

  • same thing in the end.

  • to any one willing to insult the irish people govermenrt or the country or laws must get their heads fixed irelands laws are great and they are truly demcortet so if ur french, german, british or american take a look at ur owen people ur owen goverment and ur owen law you will see that it is truly demcoratet soory but im bad at spelling

  • i agree with mjs if we had have voted yes guess what: new world order. its time we stand upp to these bastards or die trying. they are not taking my freedom

  • The elites great dream of a 80 % population reduction world wide. You bet your ass I vote NO.

  • You guys dont understand, This is part of the new world order global banking cartel. Global government, north american union is trying to be built here also. These elite bastards are trying to setup world government so that they can get away with anything . Long live the Constitutional republics for which they stand. death to the new world order. god damit you must resist the new world order.

  • I also ask what kind of democracy this whole thing is. I had moderate interest in politics before this debacle, and I voted yes, but the reaction to this and the EU threatening Ireland with expulsion makes me feel that something revolting has been exposed.

  • Let's say "NO" to the EU Fascism !!

  • I think we must understand the benefit that the Irish people has gotten out of the EU membership, least we not forget that a no vote is a temporary stumbling block,a step forward to prospect of a yes vote in ratification of the Lisbon treaty shall strive forward and i am in assurance that the Irish vote shall be turned, once the people understand benefits of aligning the treaty and thus knowing that is a good deed all round for the people of Ireland and Europe alike..

  • what benifits are there for the individual can you tell me? because the yes campaign can't answer that question without going off in tangents trying to ignore the question.

"Irelands no vote is only a stumbling block" I take it your not a democrat then.

Ireland has given up her fishing rights, 200billion worth to the EU, Spain france, and even land locked luxenburg now has a fishing fleet and exports our own fish back to us. we've paid our way.

    No to this undemocratic document.

  • PART 3 theres the asian union coming into affect soon and then the african union...think about the big picture.what are we headed toward. look how much you get screwed with money each week, with the price of things rising, food, petrol, look at the state of the healthcare and your going to let those people who run al that make a decision like this for you. WE ARE A COUNTRY IN THE CONTINENT EUROPE, FU CK THE EUROPEAN UNION.

  • ireland was the only country out of 27 that had a referendum. the people got their vote which is a god given right and look at the outcome. so the other 26 countrys have so much faith in their leaders and goverments that they trusted them to make the decision for them,. come off it. your telling me that with the economy crisis in europe that your goverments have made all the right

  • decisions and that the lisbon treaty is another GOOD DECISION. this is nothing to do with like that muppet bridgetmacdari said about irish been wise, dumified, earthly wisdom blah blah. its because their was a vote. if 27 countrys had referendums and the correct facts were writen for the people to understan properly than their would be a large majority NO. george bush signed away on behalf of 250 million people to join the north american union with canada and mexico,(research it). then

  • ireland does not take anything lying down---good for them. always ireland has rebelled against its oppressors such as the brits. its obvious that EU/lisbon treaty is just another 'one world order' and another way for the 'global elite' to take over. there are a lot of people in ireland who are not citified, dummified and programmed and have not lost their innate earthly wisdom and revolutionary tendencies towards freedom. its in their blood.

  • You are an asswhole

  • I heard of rumours as well that No Campaign Organisation Libertas who is owned by Millionars Ganley and Mcaddy has strong Links to US Military Elite. Was the No vote bought?

We need strong EU - the US are dangerous.

  • I heard rumours the unelected politicians from Brussels funneled millions to the yes campaign. Was it an attempt by Brussels to undermine Irish democracy?

  • unfortunattly this is what is happening in America. Our "president/traitor" has dissolved the barrier between mexico and the USA. Now we have to compete with people use to making 5 dollars a day.

  • The whole hidden agenda behind Lisbon/Nice was to empower the EU to build an empire (that's what Barrossa called it - not me!)and take control of taxation. Empires need funds.

the only thing standing in the way of this is a. the european population

    b. democracy

  • It seem strange saying this,

but no other eu country was allow to have a referendum on the eu treaty of lisbon.

The goverments of all other countries voted for them.

France, Holland, etc reject the nice treaty. But in this treaty the govenment of each country (not ireland), vote for its people.

    How is this democratic.

We vote no. But we are a small country so they think they can pick on us, "back off"

And now they what us to vote again.

What kind of democracy is this.

  • will they be taking their roads back then

  • Lisbon Treaty is DEAD. End of.

  • what about the social welfare benefits for immigrants families back in their native countries..we pay them a lot more because of standard of living where as if the situation was reversed my family wouldn't get half as much if anything.....on a side note.. reported in the news this morning..the president of Poland is reported as saying that there is 'no point' signing the treaty into law ...there is a lot more to this than meets the eye..i think some of the others are gald it won't go through....

  • i wanted 2 say that the way our government gave us info on the treaty seemed strange!! it seemed almost like they really didnt want us 2 vote yes to it!! they didnt really have a campaign didnt explain it properly!! i think the government did not want the treaty to come into effect but they oviously could not say it directly 2 the EU so they decided to do a half arsed job of campaigning it!!! anyone else agree????

  • That seems possible, although if u hadnt had a recent change of leadership perhaps there would of been less disorganization and a more effective campaign.

The Irish government would of found it far harder to of convinced the other countries especially France and Germany to change parts of the text so maybe they needed the backing of the people to bring the changes they wanted

But even the french and dutch failed to convince people on the constitution. Its so easy to scare people to vote no

  • Now i know your only a troll...either that or your the thickest fucking person on the planet....a complete muppet and gombeen...if was you i would go to whatever college i was enrolled in and ask for your money back, you muppet.....irish ferries are a shower of bastards and it wasn't 1 euro an hour(which is still criminal) it was a 1 euro a DAY.... and i suppose threatening the poor girls family was ok in your book...? maybe i's 'acceptable business practice' for shitheads like you....?

  • as kyotorocks posted "at least dick turpin had the decency to wear a mask".... one of the people that seedybastard was talking about had there family threatened back in the phillippines, this shows you that the mentality of these bastards hasn't changed in over 100 years..Bertie sold the people of this country for a shitty house of griffith ave and a few hundred grand...Haughey the same...'tighten you belts' while he bought his shirts in paris..... i will tighten it round their fucking necks...

  • Irish Ferries was the Employers in this country 'trying it on' to see how much the ordinary worker would put up with....i want to jog our student of historys memory..before the 1916 rising there was another famous date that is too often overlooked in irish history..the 1913 lockout, and the comments floating around between the unions and employersd at the moment don't look very promising,i don't wat to be too much 'doom and gloom' but as the kaiser chiefs are so fond of singing 'i predict a riot'

  • it doesn't matter if people think the treaty is good or not,the facts are that a lot of people took this opportunity to put the boot into the govt and the EU to say, enough is enough, you can argue the ideals of the EU till your blue in the face and it won't change the reality on the ground, until the govt gets it's house in order with the rip off prices, schools, hospitals, price of fuel... also there shold be a cap on immagration when the dole queue is 200,000 that is one of the big ones with people

  • you say you would rather trust the govt...as a student of history and politics look at what happened in unreservedly trusting politicans in the 20th century..mainly europeans politicans... Cowen reached out to the people with a 'trust me on this' and 'i give you my solemn word' and he was rejected by 860'000 people in this country... game over.the majority of the voters who turned out have spoken and obviously didn't trust him or his fellow members of lenister house who campaigned for a yes vote

  • The Dole queues are as big as they are because Irish labour demands a minimum wage above the rate for which immigrants are prepared to work for because the market rate is better than the nothing they get at home. Many have complained about lack of information. Given that all information about the EU is online, this is akin to Arthur Dent complaining to the aliens about the intergalactic highway, he would have known of, had he bothered to read about it.

  • you guys are fucked and you know it...there is going to be a worldwide backlash to the way you have screwed with the balance of the worlds economy, people in this part of ireland and all over europe are starting to get fucking angry with all this stuff...Brown is on his last legs in the U.K.and Cowen won't be far behind.....have you ever heard of the domino theory...?? well your about to see it in european politics......

  • Very much so, henzoni. This not because of a lack of democratic accountability, but simply because the capital base in the west has been so hollowed out, there is nothing for the politicians to bilk others out of by way of democracy, stakeholder theory, etc. Simply observe the European Parliament debates, and it is abundantly clear that this is so. People are angry at an inflation rate of 30% for essentials not made in China, and wilfully confused by the ignorance of their politicians.

  • great stuff ,hope ireland stays strong,we learnt are lessons time rest off the EU woke up .we can ALWAYS FALL BACK ON SPUDS AND WISKY ARRRRRRRR,

  • kyotorocks..it sounds like our government learned a lot about spin from New Labour...must of been during the downtime in the peace process,Tony and Bertie dicussing how troublesome it was having to answer those malcontents who call themselves 'Joe Public '...unfortunately there seems to be a deliberate 'dumbing down' of the general pouplace across the world when it come to politics..any discontent is threatened with an economic dowturn to frighten us back into line.....

  • henzoni,

'dumbing down' indeed, damn media are dangerously self-indulgent, and what gets me most is it's not even a "conspiracy theory", it's just you need an amatuer interest in politics and too much free time to keep up with the constant devisive PR that passes for "political debate".

At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.

What are the odds there's some new, unspecifed terrorist threat around the corner...?

  • And futhermore the argument that we have to have a strong europe against the chinese.. all the latest indicators is chinas economy is expanding too fast and is near meltdown, their rate of inflation is over 7%,they put the cost of fuel up by 20% recently so they might never become a 'superpower' this is all just speculation by economists and is frightening people and lets be honest economists are only guessing at the end of the day like the way they said our economy would expand by 6.5% per annum

  • well said seedybastard,i agree with all you said,Tony Blair is one of the sort of people i posted about earlier, another slug and gangster along with his mate mandelson,NO to a european army, the race to the bottom in this country is in full swing and typicially irish,we let our greedy employers exploit no only us but people from eastern europe as well, all valid reasons to vote NO ... the fact tht Tony Blairs name is even in the frame for the job is an indicator of how stupid they think we are...

  • IBEC want a pay freeze in ireland which David Begg the leader of the ITCU says they have a 'BRASS NECK'in light of the pay awards top excutives are paying themselves, also our government are refusing to sign up to the social charter part of treaty...sound familiar.? the right wing parties of this country are all for big business and fuck the rest of us..i think we should have a 'poll tax' riot like the brits did in london....it would make headlines across the world and embarress them even more...

  • Let the people of europe decide the own fate and if they want anyone else to join the EU.....if the government wanted to ratify the treaty without a referendum it should of stood for election last year on that basis but it knew it would/could not sell and get reelected..bertie got out not only because of the tribunals but also over this as he knew it would never wash,so it's immaterial why there was a NO vote,it's done and dusted and any re-run is goig to look very bad and an attack on democracy

  • I don't know how it was presented in Ireland, but only an idiot would vote "yes" based how the treaty was rattified in the UK.

I watched almost all of the debates in Parliament here, it was ridiculous, an outsider would think we were mad.

ALL parties complained about the draconian restrictions on time and subject (immigration, transport and more weren't discussed AT ALL), those speaking against outnumbered those in favour at least 5 to 1 EVERY day, the Labour benches...

  • ...were almost empty the whole time,(seriously, no more than 4/5 members most of the time, and even less at others), except at the end of each day when they piled in, not to speak but just to vote through whatever part of the treaty that day was set aside for.

If the public were aware of how Labour callously pushed it through Gordon Brown would be out on his ear now.

Even during Prime Ministers questions, if "Europe" comes up he repeats the same line; "60% of our...

  • ..."trade is done in Europe, 3 million jobs depend on Europe, the tories are Euro sceptics".

Its all disingenuous to the extreme, for a Brit to vote "yes" you wouldn't need faith, you would need blind adoration of Labour and/or the EU.

Voter apathy is why Labour have been in power 11 years, the only way they get away with it.

    If only people knew...

  • futhermore i never claimed to be anti EU..i fact i think the ideals of the EU are a good thing..it's the shifty gangsters who it seems that after getting their fingers'caught in the till' in their respective countries are shipped off to brussels....mandelson is a crook and a slug,Barroso was in trouble in portugal etc etc.... there has been a few scandals about these people that run the EU and i'm not too partial with the german and french arrogance and hostility towards the U.S. either....

  • On the basis the treaty is completely unreadable according to our own EU commissioner and the only rational argument that our prime minister could put forward was 'trust me on this' which was on the front page of 'the star' newspaper, and after BOTH of these people who repesent our country at the highest levels of the EU admitted in interviews that they BOTH hadn't bother to read it,i decided to vote NO.... i an shocked that you could vote YES on that basis...blind trust in politicans is stupid..

  • the major problem with the treaty is that it's unreadable and the only way they can sell it is by saying 'trust us'....trust has to be earned and they haven't been very convincing in their actions on the domestic front of late....so in the end it doesn't really matter what it says of if it's good or bad for the country, they lost by their own actions..and have they learned anything.? No..!! more threats and 'doom and gloom' to frighten the bold boys and girls of Ireland... sack the spin doctors..

  • See you voted no because of our govt in a completely unrelated matter.

  • Dont know what your talking about there, i voted know because a project was done by a college student to find out what it was about and found out the governmant wasnt telling the people what the treaty involved, he exposed the content of the treaty and why the government was so secrative

  • C'mon then spill it, what was the Government not telling us. Also you voted NO, not Know. In fact I doubt you voted at all you don't sound 18.

  • It would be true to say u dont actually know what i sound like cus i didnt read the comment to your face, but heres a little threet 4 u, get some popcorn and watch End of Nations theres 9 parts to it on youtube itl inform you a little more cus u cant actualy read the treaty because it is made up of connotations referring to a vast amount of legislation. That will spill it for u.

  • To fully appreciate Lisbon you would have to read ALL existing treaties, as well as over 100,000 pages of the Aquis Communautaire (powers and law belonging to the commission), then cross reference them all, AND have some idea of how a self amending treaty will amend itself in an unwritten future...

The government has a responsibility to not just do what's right, but to show they are, democracy depends on the public making an informed decision, with all things EU that's just not possible.

  • you, because, here's, threat (maybe treat), for, you, it will, because, you, can't, actually, that will spell it out for you (I think). <--- those correction's from your comment show your age.

I did read a slightly simplified version of the treaty, I am studing history and politics.

  • To be honest I think you'd have to be a total headcase to read, understand and appreciate the treaty for what it is. But that really was the point of it all, and no politician or media channel could reduce it to something understandable through the usual methods of soundbites and slogans.

With a full blown, one off constitution I could (not like, but) accept this. In Britain at one point the Labour line was "it's nothing more than a tidying up exercise".

As far as I'm concerned it'

  • *oops, "as far..." ignore.

errlloyd, it's to your credit you read any of it, and don't pretend to be some kind of expert on EU law having done so. I tried to read a simplified version of the constitution (mendes-france and corbett I think it was), and didn't stand a chance of understanding it technically.

I just know the EU is fundamentally flawed in at least some ways, but the official line ignores this. EU conduct makes me suspect of anything they do, they really are their biggest enemy.

  • I think the reason they are doing it all at once is because they need to get it in quickly, with 27 nations now in Europe they need to change the way it runs as soon as possible.

  • I don't think that any reason to force through such change (an accumulative effect over years, not just this treaty). Its not like any member states are going to collapse into war famine and pestilence if THEY take the time to explain what they're doing to those of us supposed to give thanks and taxes.

The EU won't ever really work, or have any permanence, until people feel they can trust and/or understand what's being done.

But instead it's all so dishonest, and they seem so callous...

  • The main things that had to be done were the removing of veto the changing of presidency and the smaller Parliment.

  • ...callous, and contemptuous of any criticism. Even the Irish referenda is treated as a validation of the whole thing (the EU) "what is Europe going to do next..."

Well, Europe will continue on its course through history, when do we get a say on the EU, (In Britain at least we never really have) which is new and distant, as opposed to nations, which are understood?

They need to change the way it's run because it doesnt really work, but rather than fix it the keep ploughing on, despite..

  • ...depsite democracy, like a deranged unicyclist, terryfied of slowing down lest they topple over.

    (sorry for page hogging !)

Why "have to get rid of the veto"?

For all the clauses/opt outs etc, if you can say "NO" you are not co-operating, you are submitting.

I can understand this for certain areas, but not so many, not without explanation, and not without the peoples consent.

  • *if you CAN'T say "NO"

    you are not co-operating.."<---correction

  • people are not going to wait around for 5 years to put the boot into this gov the got in at the last election on the 'trust us with the economy' routine and people felt cheated,so why should we trust a EU commissioner and a taoiseach who both admitted they hadn't even bothered reading the thing!their spin machine seriously backfired by taking the people for fools and Cowens outburst threatening Fine Gael cost him and leaving the IFA/Unions hanging till the last min wasn't very clever as well

  • and now with soaring oil and fuel prices how much is it going to cost these people to get to work every day.??i agree about the poll results,i too would love to know who gets asked as with a massive no vote to lisbon, how can the government still enjoy 40% support, something smells a bit rotten there, the majority of politicans here have their head totally out of sync with current public opinion..maybe if they actully walked around and lived in the communities they claim to repesent it would help.

  • Will the EU be happy with the road sign on the new M3 that will destroy the hill of tara..?? which the EU heritage people have already condemmended and people in the U.S. are comparing to the taliban blowing up the statues of buddha...and these are the people who provide us with one of our major resources of income..tourism....another fuck up of our government allowing greedy devolopment with no public transport in place and then build a motorway encouraging more cars.... not very carbon netural

  • I agree with you, but that is seriously irrelevant.

  • i think your missing the point, the government if it was serious about a yes vote should of had a referendum before it did..why do you think governments try to call general elections when it's doing well in the polls..this time it left it too late and the reason i outlined before is what caused it to be defeated, but like it or not that is democracy in action,if ahern, harney and the rest of the muppets had of got the country a bit more 'bulletproof' to the reccession they would of got a yes.....

  • An interesting thought from Maggot Wallstrom (EU Minister of Propaganda) Kemppinem head of the EU London enforcement offices 'WE did not lose one single referendum.' (This may suggest that the EC considers itself blameless re: Ireland) The other, a peach, reads: 'Yes is yes but no is unfortunate.' It was of course the ghastly Abba clone with her metronomic drone & ill kept roots who is supposedly responsible for communications! Well she failed to communicate in Ireland. Not even understanding NO

  • I will vote no again unless these concerns are met: We must keep our Commissioner. The new voting system is unacceptable and must be scrapped. An opt-out from the Charter of Fundamental Rights which allows the ECJ to dictate our human rights laws. The UK and Poland have such an opt-out. A guarantee that we can continue having automatic rights to EU referenda. Article 48 on the "simplified ratification procedure" calls this into question.

  • Well if you think the 40 billion is enough to shut us up, you're wrong. It has nothing to do with anti European feelings. After the Dutch and the French, we were the only one able to vote in a referendum. All the other referendums were cancelled because they were afraid of the outcome. So it is not the irish who blew up the treaty, it is the Irish who spoke in the name of all who could not vote, for all who wanted to deside their destiny. But Brussels doenst take a no for answer.

  • We will always vote NO, Imperialism kept Ireland poor untill we fought for our freedom, To vote yes gives the people in power of the EU Imperilism.

  • The EU saved ireland and made it the wealthiest nation in Europe you are shithead to claim the eu is imperlaism. Einsehower supported european intrgration Hitler did not fuck you NAZI creep.

  • We protested for a vote but were still denied democratic process in my country The Irish vote was a nice birthday present. Politicians should remain accountable to the people, even after they are voted into office. This is one of the principles the Irish conveyed. I hope the EU-Parl remains accountable for its own rules of ratification after this.

  • The citizens of other EU countries should demand a referendum, rather than letting their governments decide for them. There's a lot more to this treaty than changing the number of Commissioners. It affects military spending, public services, and the nuclear industry. It's a bad deal.

  • I strongly support the idea of the European

Union. But there should be much more participation by the citizens. For example

every citizen of the EU should have the right

to vote Yes or No. Sadly most of the governments

(including our German) are afraid they'll get

    punished for their bad politics.

  • well the purpose of the treaty is to improve efficiency in other words to hell with voting lets let the elected governments decide for the people.

  • are you kidding? "to hell with voting", yeah, ok, are you sure you want a government with elected and "non-elected" people decide YOUR fate? power of the people lies in voting, without it, we have no power.

Go Ireland! Way to stand up for yourselves!

  • no no dnt get me wrong like i even voted no but im just sayin tat tats the general attitude of each government.

  • Thank You, i'm glad i campaigned.

  • we still have to be aware and informed

  • you have to hand it to bertie..even though he was a crook and a scumbag,he timed his departure well...he knew the people were sick to their back teeth of him and his government and he could never sell this...i would say getting caught with his fingers in the till so soon after charlie, along with beverly flynn being reammitted to fianna fail sickened a lot of people..how could you trust Cowen and his government when they stick up for people like this who should be serving time in prison...??

  • I agree.

  • one of the posters said this could end you turning violent and i hope not for all our sakes and our childrens, but as one of the founding fathers of the U.S. said the tree of liberty must be watered time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants....if a democractic vote is ignored what are people supposed to do...?? our government are quick to point the finger at leaders of some of the banana republics around the globe and now that muppet Cowen is talking about another referendum...asshole..

  • majority rules. ireland doesnt want the treay. and im glad. well done lads.

  • God Bless The Irish People..... Salt Of The Earth.....

    ...LONG LIVE THE IRISH CONSTITUTION!!!!!

    NO TO THE LISBON CHEATY!!!!!!!!

  • Erin Go braugh ! Way to go Ireland. You stood up for yourselves and kept your soveriegnty while keeping a big con from growing. There needs to be more sunlight and transparency on these deals.

  • Congratulations to Irish people!! Was good decision.I knew the Irish are not going to forget why they fought long time.

Greeting from BRAZIL we love Ireland!!

  • there is a video some were on the net that i cant fined it. if any body can find it post it please. it shows the Irish prime minister showing his true elitist colours as well as his butt oh brother what a sore loser -_- . but any ways if some one can fined it that would be cool thanks.

  • does it not prove the point of all the no voters to try and push this treaty through even though it has been beaten by the vote. if thats the peoples decision and thats the law, then it should be respected. at the end of the day politicions workfor the people, there not in charge of the people

  • Hi everyone, i love FRANCE and HOLLAND,BELGUIM,SPAIN,BASQUE,DENMARK. . . etc etc etc i love these countries mostly because they are different and have their own ways of doing things.Lets keep EVERY COUNTRY INDEPENDENT,LETS ENJOY THE DIFFERENCE! VIVA LA DIFFERENCE!

  • Can someone please explain what was wrong with the treaty?

  • what was wrong with the treaty?

it would lead 2 the END of democracy in europe. Worse still we would be run by a permanent unelected president with absolute power todo whatever he/she wants. Hopefully this vote has put the elite's plans dead in the water. But we must be ever vigilant to the tricks played by the EU. They have already voted (some weeks ago) to ignore the irish vote if they choose. This is what we dealing with. Complete arrogance. The only option in end may be full scale war.
