  • ....-feels somewhat stupid, looking at all the comments, because she always liked the voices, and now feels weird hearing these-

  • @BlackWingedTraveler It's new to hear. I understand.

  • oh wow..... voices are much more believable

  • @coveruplies Good thing I have this one set.

  • I wish they gave you a choice between the english and japanese voice acting, that way eveyone would be happy!

  • @lovethelawliet That would be an excellent idea. But from what I remember, even the Japanese Voice acting was considered horrendous. Actually, now I think they should consider making a compilation pack for a Remastered Baten Kaitos series, along with a third installment.

  • I don't come to believe that the Japanese people are making their voices in the opening. They don't have even the slightest accent.

  • @Blackcat51292 If that's not the most racist thing I've ever heard. English-speaking Japanese without an accent don't exist? You do realize that theatrical training helped them improve their speech abilities, right?

  • @BigBrotherWii

How is that being racist? I agree with blackcat though, it is kind of odd you don't hear an accent. Even the most fluent Japanese English speaker has a little accent.

  • @purplehearts424 You assume that every English speaking Japanese person need to have an accent. You're undermining that people who do voice work or theatrical work would take lessons to enhance their diction and everything else in order to adapt into their character or even communicate better. It's a stupid assumption on Blackcat's part and yours too.

  • @BigBrotherWii There's really no proof that Japanese people make the voices in the opening. The Gibari sounds like an American. A Japanese person cannot talk in a voice that deep. Just saying. Don't jump down my throat now.

  • @Blackcat51292 This is horrendous. You never heard deep sounding Japanese before? I've heard them a lot. Don't be a racist and stereotype!

  • If this is the Japanese opening why are they talking in English?

  • @purplehearts424 Japanese voice actors can speak English too ya know.

  • @BigBrotherWii

Most American's can speak Spanish but our opening is still in English. The point is, it doesn't make much sense. :/

  • @purplehearts424 You're missing it entirely...they contracted Japanese voice actors who can speak English to do the voice overs for its E3 debut. The in-game part is Japanese though. It was a rush effort.

Oh and for the record, by your logic...the Final Mixes of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XII International don't make much sense either. Come on...use your head.

  • @BigBrotherWii The point is the Jap language sucks so that they had to use English. Use your head man!

  • @Blackcat51292 The English version equally is bad.

  • @BigBrotherWii

The English voices are actually a lot better. I don't know why people always worship the Japanese versions of everything. :/

  • @purplehearts424 No one here is worshipping the Japanese voice overs. I'm far from a weeaboo/wapanese, so don't assume something like that. The U.S. version of the voice acting, when compared to countless other English voice over games, is incredibly subpar and inexcusable. It's TOLERABLE at best. Only Arc Rise Fantasia is substantially worse.

  • @purplehearts424 I agree with you. Why do people worship Japanese people? Let's all bow our heads and say to them, "All hail the japs!"

  • @purplehearts424 If i'm watching an american movie, I'd rather choose us voices. If i'm playing a japanese game, i'd prefer japanese voices.

That's all, just because they are original choice.

  • the in game voice acting is horrid.

i remember playing it and when they said "wow!"

    it sounded SO fake. XD

  • @SuperPrismatic Hahaahaahah!

  • i like the higher voices better

  • I prefer this Lyude to the game's lyude, but ah... This Melodia scares me...

  • @Emoanimegrrrl I think Melodia is suppose to make you crap your pants.

  • lyude sounds awesome

  • Heh, sounds like a fandub.

  • @Kazaazz Hahaha, oh yeah!

  • What the fuck happened to the voice acting? Why'd it take such a turn for the worst?

  • @QwoPhasaArius This voice acting was just for the demo at that E3.

  • I could take either version for the most part, except melodia sounds HORRIBLE here.

BE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE :)

come on, you're supposed to be horrible and psycho, not a self-help motivational speaker...

  • @selfishjuliet Melodia sounding like a pedophile's wet dream is psycho enough. :-P

  • What does Savyna say at 1:50? Doesn't sound like "Come on, Gibari, move it!"...

Anyway I like the original version MUCH better. Especially for Mizuti and Melodia, they sound really horrible here D:

  • @iNewbieJD She said, "Gibari...no dead weight!"

  • @BigBrotherWii Oh, that makes sense! ^^' Thanks so much man.

  • @iNewbieJD No problem! I remember seeing this the first time and I was a bit confused. But yeah, dead-weigh as on leave the dead on the ground.

  • Hm.. these voices are different from the intro in the game. Was this a pre-production?

Even so, neither these, nor the ones in the official FMV intro really meant a thing, considering the rest of the game was so horribly portrayed. D:

  • @eltaire These are Japanese voice-overs. :-) And yes this was in pre-production.

  • I think I'm among the few that preffers the final voices/english voices over these, this dialogue sounds really forced imo, whereas in the final version the dialogue has a genuine vibe, and the tone of the voices goes along with the expressions the characters are making.

Kalas is the only one in this version that I like, and even he sounds unnatural at times.

  • @De1ved I don't know about that. This version comes off as more genuine and less forced. Either that or this version seems like it carries more heart when the voices are jumping to character. I agree that they can get forced at times, but needless to say, it's not as bad as the American finalized version.

  • 1:08 --Lyude ♥ "It's UNTHINKABLE, to act AGAINST the empire?" LOVE that part!

  • @LeilaniGurl808 Hahahah.

  • ...I want this version.

Lyude is like my favourite but I had to turn off the voice dialogue after he joined the party because his actor is just so, so fail.

  • @ExplodingTurtle Hahaha, he wasn't THAT bad in the final version.

  • i liked these voices more than the original though!

  • @xelahemo123 Hahaha, I do too!

  • The second most upsetting thing (the first being taking out the best line at the end), is Mizuti's voice... I LOVED Mizuti's voice.

  • @Kyotensu What's wrong with her voice?

  • @BigBrotherWii What's WRONG with it..? Nothing. What's right about it? Nothing.

There were a lot of improvements voice-wise int he japanese (this) version... my point is that Mizuti's in this is well below the awesome voice of Mizuti America.

  • @Kyotensu This is an early build of the game when it was shown at one of the events. Mizuti's VA here seems a bit more what you'd expect. I'm not downplaying the American results, but I felt it was too high pitched.

  • @BigBrotherWii I understand where you are coming from, but I have to disagree. Because Mizuti America's voice is not what you would expect, it makes the character so much better. Mizuti is such a mysterious, yet lively character and I felt that MA portrayed that better. Now, as you say, this is just early build, so I obviously can't truly compare the two with just one line of dialog from MJap. Just a personal preference.

  • @Kyotensu Perfectly clear on that. But we do have one thing in agreement: Baten Kaitos is just that damn good!

  • ouch...For once I prefer ENGLISH version. More emotion, it's quite rare O_o

  • @conurebleu

Hahahaha, this is just prior to the game's release.

  • @BigBrotherWii So it's not the real voices O_o....fiou...

  • I think the voices in this one sound more convincing. I also enjoy Savyna's line "No dead weight!" haha.

  • @fotunable

    Oh yeah! This is empowering!

  • This is getting Upsetting. No More Baten kaitos' No more Tales Of Symphonia Y.Y" Its all to much!

  • @unnbroken

Tales of Symphonia I can understand. It's not meant to be an ongoing series of one big world. Think of it as a more action oriented version of Final Fantasy. Baten Kaitos on the other hand...I hope to see it come back someday.

  • @BigBrotherWii i do too, but apparently tales of vesperia, is an sequel to ToS

  • @unnbroken

It's not based off of Tales of Symphonia, although the key players from ToS were involved in ToV. But are they related story-wise? Nah.

  • @BigBrotherWii Oh. Okay then, Is it worth a play?

  • @unnbroken

Tales of Vesperia? Oh most definitely. It's a much more refined game than Symphonia and plus it's a lot more fleshed out for the general audience. If you liked Symphonia, then Vesperia is right up your alley.

  • @BigBrotherWii kay sweet, ill get a 360 and play it lol.

  • @unnbroken

I'd say wait for the PS3 version (if it hits North America). Lots of extras worthy of your time.

  • @BigBrotherWii Oh Okay. so ill sell my ps2 and get a ps3 lol.

  • @unnbroken

:-P Well, that would be a good incentive.

  • They took out the BEST part...

    Now!

BE WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DREAMED TO BE!

I do like Melodia's voice here thouggh...

  • @Kyotensu

    Hahahah, that's a classic!

  • Hmmm I like the english opening more, mainly because the voices have more emotion, in this they seem just a little dead, in the english openining it's a bit more entertaining to see with the emotion, I guess. But I actually like this Lyude a bit more.

  • @RegretfulSins

I don't think so. This one seems a bit more convincing.

  • o_o Wow... interesting. And here I was hoping that the original would have japanese voices. XD From listening to this, though I can safely say that some voices were better when the final version came out. Lyude sounds relatively the same. Mizuti's original voice sounds quite ominous. I like what they changed it to. ^^

  • Kind of brings a great deal of nostalgia when watching this again, eh?

  • @BigBrotherWii

Heh hardly nostalgia since I play the game still. ^_^ I love it so much!

  • Hahaha, I can concur. In fact, I'm still hoping for a third installment, which takes place after this game.

  • @BigBrotherWii

Have there been discussions about a third installment? o_o

  • There were talks of another Baten Kaitos game, but for the DS. However, that was about three or so years ago, so the idea is no longer applicable. But who knows, now that Monolith Soft is a first party developer to Nintendo and they own the rights to the game now, a revival is most certainly possible.

  • @BigBrotherWii

Ah yes, I remember that discussion regarding the supposed DS version. I heard oe did come out in Japan. Guess that was just a rumor. It would be great if they did come out with a sequel. Quite frankly, I'd like them to impliment the old battle system from BK. I wasn't too fond of the new one in BKO.

  • That game never surfaced since it was just an idea for the most part. And yeah, a sequel would do wonders. The battle system from the original was really good. But I think with each new installment, there should be a variation of it for the next game. But it's cool, at least we get XenoBlade.

  • i think its interesting that the english and japanese openings have very different finishing lines, especially considering everything else stays the same...

japanese version: "someday you will know what you are meant to be"

english version: "someday you will know who you really are"

  • The translation is awfully weird in the U.S. version. But I think this was a last minute effort to get something in before things hit the fan.

  • Man Kalases vocie is so much better but what ecer

  • Hehehe, let's get their voices in for the next game.

  • they sound so much fucking better then the final version

  • This is far better than the English version. Despite Lyude's exaggerated movement, he actually sounds convincing.

I do like Mizuti's English voice a little better, but not because this one's bad. The other is just a little more unique.

The old woman in the beginning doesn't sound like she's trying too hard to sound old. I love it! Wish they could have used these voice actors for the English game x.x

Not that I didn't love the game of course. It was great. Never played the prequel though hm..

  • Agreed!

And you should try out Origins. It's a fun game. And the battle system is much more fast-paced.

  • Agreed.

And yeah, Origins is pretty fun, too...not to mention much better voiced!

  • @Jendappel Are you fucking kidding me this opening sounds AWFUL compared to the actual american opening. The actual in-game voice-acting, however....

  • @yoyoyo88665 Do you remember Lyude's American opening line and Melodia's at the end? Those are most notorious. Perhaps it's the fact that the US opening was running at 60 FPS which made it seem all the more out of place.

  • For some reason....I like the English version better.

Somehow, my tv doesnt make it seem like "metal tube" talking.

Yay, my tv is special! XD

  • LOL Melodia sounds like a baby!!! haha

  • sorry......I was just so surprised...

  • i liked lyudes voice in japanese over the english, but they buthered mizuti with a guys voice. Mizuti is a girl. one Lyude had a good voice

  • Lyude's voice is much better here. As for Mizuti, it was rather "gargled" but the voice is seemingly appropriate since the mask sort of weirded the voice projection.

  • D: Well, I came here expecting to hear like...Japanese. D: Is...this what Japan gets to listen to? Ouch...

  • Ehhh don't be such a weeaboo. The people voicing them are Japanese people who are fluent in English. Plus, when it was debuted to the public, that's how it was like. The game, however, are in complete Japanese (voice and text and all).

  • I meant I was used to the voices over here, and was eager to find out how the characters sounded in Japanese.

  • The voice acting in the Japanese version was just as horrible as the English version.

  • I didn't think the English voices were terrible at all. Some people just expect too much.

  • Hmmm, well to be fair, there were a FEW voice overs with redeeming quality, like Savyna and to a lesser extent, Geldoblame. However, given the past few generations we've seen quality voice acting, the voices on here seemed rushed.

  • I think it's the "rushed" feel is why I like it so much. In real life, one won't have time to hire professional voice actors for the most dramatic moments of their life. How rough and real it is just strikes me hard.

...or I'm just being too generous. But yes, Geldoblame was especially creepy, and dear god, when he gets shot to death....

  • Not necessarily. In real life, finding quality voice actors, whether known or unknown can still give out the same dramatic effects as do anyone. It's definitely a great game by all means, and it's prequel is just as astounding. But perhaps they could have done better with the voices on here.

But it's a classic, niche game and here's hoping for a third game in the series.

  • Hmm...we can agree there indeed! Let's hope so!

  • Comment removed

  • English version is waaay better, the voices fit the characters better.

  • Lyude is so awesome <3

  • ....i liked more the english version.. Melodia sounds kinda annoying in this and Mizuti is... o-o' Lyude's voice was kinda better and so was Savyna's. but i prefer the english version

  • God. The japanese version is english and it even sounds better then the english one. Why the hell did they re-voice everything!? The american version sounds like developers trying to voice the whole game through a usb videochat device in someone's kitchen! >_>

  • You can fix the talking through a metal tube sound by switching the game audio is mono instead of stereo. As for the voices..i pretty much only like Lyude's better. The rest are alright..and as for Mizuti's voice..completely glad that they changed her's.

  • Cursed power of MARPERSHO.

    Poor Malpercio. . .

Honestly, I prefer the English version; the emotion sounds genuine, while this sounds forced.

  • Gibari, Lyude and Savyna sounded better.

The rest... eh... not so much. And the dialogue was kinda Engrish-y.

And Melodia? there at the end sounded pretty creepy.

  • LOL Engrishly? Well...the Voice overs there are Japanese.

  • What I mean is, some of the lines in this opening sound like they've been badly translated from Japanese to English.

  • Ohhh, then yes...I see what you mean. The English version didn't seem to have...poetic/prophet like statements.

  • I don't think I'd describe it as poetic/prophetic because the two of theme usually have some point to get across. This here just sounds like precisely transliterated prattling.

  • True, but I mean the way they're written...didn't carry much of a flare for the introduction, but rather felt rushed.

  • Oh, I agree with that.

  • this lyude sounds better idk about the other guys =/

  • This is just an intro to intro comparison, as I haven't really played the game, but IMO, This Savyna>final cut, Lyude is better, and Although Gibari's voice doesn't fit as well, the actor wasn't nearly as over-the-top, so I think I would've prefered him. Mizuti is awful here, but that's a given. the final emperor is great, I like him, but the black-haired lady seems to be about the same in cheesiness. Overall, if I had to go with a whole set, it'd be the finale, but some of the old are better.

  • i like more the english version(the relly version ^^)

  • Really Mizuti's voice in this video, i't sounds so not like her!

I loved hte game by the way, i want to play the second game too. But it never came out in Holland T-T

  • @MorikoW Totally agreeing with you! Both about Mizuti's voice and the fact that Origins never was released in Europe. D:

It's rare to see a fellow Dutch BK fan, though. How are you doing? XDD

  • @ZelosDaBest You know what sucks? You all have Disaster: Day of Crisis and it's done by the same people who brought you Baten Kaitos.

  • @BigBrotherWii You know what sucks? That game, in my opinion. Played a demo version of it, can't say it's for me. Then again, that was over a year and a half ago. :/

But yeah, I can't understand why they would release it in Europe first, of all places. It would make more sense to release it in the US first, but then again, you'd get hell from a lot of Europeans.

Oh well, I'll stick to butchering Shawras in Moonguile Forest. :D

  • @ZelosDaBest I wouldn't think it would fair well with the critics anyway. Monolith Soft is more of a RPG company, since their credentials are much easier to the gamers.

Regarding the BK series, one thing I'd like for them to do is to try and get in their Chrono series mindset and introduce multiple endings. Both BK games can easily be done in that respect.

  • @BigBrotherWii Mm. I can say I'm happy with that at least. I'll play RPG's till I drop. :D

Although I think it's healthy for a company to try out new things once in a while, this time it just didn't work out for me.

Oh, yes, I agree with you on that part. They did that for the sequel to ToS, too, but I think it would have worked better on BK.

Well, I can only speak for BK as opposed to BKO, but definitely. A sad or happy ending for instance would've been good. Oh well, we can hope for a remake!

  • @ZelosDaBest I was thinking more like a Chrono Cross/Trigger style multiple ending. Some which can be comical and maybe a part where (at least in BKO) the characters would somehow get in a battle with the Nintendo Elite (Mario, Link, and Donkey Kong). Or maybe Star Fox.

  • @BigBrotherWii Ahh, I see. Haha, that would be an interesting take on the BK universe. ;)

  • @ZelosDaBest Well, Nintendo now owns Monolith Soft, so the next Smash Bros. installment, you could see Sagi, Shiro (from Xenoblade), or other Monolith Soft related characters in there. Hell, Isaac from Golden Sun was a trophy character on Brawl.

  • @BigBrotherWii True, that! I was pleasantly surprised to see Isaac on there, yup.

Who knows? I'd love some BK characters to show up in Brawl. Maybe that could help its popularity much like it did for FE, by having Marth & Roy as adverts. :D

  • @ZelosDaBest Well Camelot Software and Nintendo have a strong relationship. So perhaps we could convince CS to develop a Golden Sun game for the Wii? I've been wanting that so bad!

And you're right, but after BK and BKO, Nintendo would have to re-introduce the two games to the community as a compilation pack with extra content. THEN consider a third installment...perhaps in the future when the land is massive and perhaps new fighting mechanics.

  • @BigBrotherWii Do they now? Learn something new every day.

But THAT...would be heaven. <3 The Wii needs some new good games. I hear Mario Galaxy2 is even better than 1, but so far I only played the first one. :/

    Haha! That would be great! I'd have to get that if only for BKO. I want it so baaaad. ;w;

Heh, yeah. Or with the original heroes' descendants. Another mini-Gibari... I wonder if the world could take it. :p

  • @ZelosDaBest Super Mario Galaxy 2 is significantly better (and that's saying a lot) than the first game. It's rare that a sequel can trump the original without leaving some wiggle room for improvement.

BKO's battle system is much more fast paced. Still use cards, but you're under limitation. However, it's still very much fun!

I'd personally would love to see characters from the original game returning, but take on ancestral roles perhaps.

  • @BigBrotherWii That much better? Ho geez. I'll need to get that one. The only issue is the money, hmph.

True though. I've only once seen a sequel beating the original, and that was Toy Story 2. :P

Especially trilogies of any kind are bad, imo. 1: Good, 2: Bad, 3: Pretty-good-but-not-as-good-as-the-original. XD

Mm. I watched a lot of battle videos. It looks like a lot of fun!

Haha, yup, that would be awesome too. Everyone who agrees needs to give that comment thumbs up. XP

  • @BigBrotherWii That much better? Ho geez. I'll need to get that one. The only issue is the money, hmph.

  • @ZelosDaBest Hahaha, aren't you describing Xenosaga with that trilogy analogy? What about the Metroid Prime Trilogy?!

  • @BigBrotherWii It's pretty much ANY trilogy save Toy Story in my opinion. XDD

Although I have to admit I never played Xenosaga, nor the Metroid Prime trilogy. *hides in corner*

  • @ZelosDaBest Play the games! You'll enjoy them!

  • @BigBrotherWii Really, i never saw thet one. I'm gonna look it up now :D

  • @BigBrotherWii I've read some things about Disaster: day of crisis, and i think it's not really a game with a lot of story in it...just a bunch of mini games and a mario/peach story XD

Do you want to trade? BK Origins for Disaster? XD

  • @MorikoW HELL NO! Keep your Disaster!

  • @BigBrotherWii Awww

  • @ZelosDaBest Yeah, i really wanted to play Origins....-_-

I found it on ebay though, but it's so difficult with dollars and such.

You've got the same problem right? :P

And i'm fine XD I've played Okami a while ago. That's a really good game as well.

And i'm already hopefully waiting for the new Okami (Okamiden) for the DS and the new Zelda, Skyward sword :D

But i really miss Origins on my desk :S

    How are you? XD

  • @MorikoW Me too. D:

Same here. That, and you'd have to modify either your mem card or your GC/Wii to be able to play US games. Or both. It sucks, 'cause if anything goes wrong with your system then, you can't call on Nintendo to fix it. :/

Good ;D I heard about that one! Haven't gotten around to playing it, though, but I might.

Oh yes, the new Zelda! So looking forward to that one! I need to see whether my scepsis is justified XD

Me too ;w; But otherwise doing great, thanks for asking :D

  • man the real version is so much better then this. and it was an awsome game.

  • wtf Mizuti said?

  • He said, "Us humans, we have so much to do."

  • She said, "Us heroes, we're just so busy."

In the English version, she said, "Us heroes, we have so much to do."

  • so muc hbetter for the english version

  • Kalas sounds cooler here than in the game, IMO...

  • Some of the voices are definitely questionable if not funny to listen to (Mizuti, Melodia, Xelha, and Sayvna). I like the English voices better for some, Japanese better suited for some than others.

  • Ick...I'm glad they changed them in the end...Gibari sounds...well...I have to laugh every time he goes ''Damn, the bastards'' in this...it just sounds so deep...I wonder what it would've been like if they kept him...I wold've laughed every time he talked. ''Kalas! There's no way you betrayed us!''

  • It's really the surprising that the Japanese are making a lot of their game in English. Maybe cause its the most spoken language in the world who knows. But Thankfully we have stopped dubbing them ourselves and and just leave the voices be.

  • wow... the voices in this sound like crap compared to the real ones

dont understand why anybody would think they sound better... they loose so much personality... the only one i liked was lyudes but he was my fav character anyways and i was fine with his voice

  • In this version they had melodia doing the whole "be what you want to be" thing, while in the final cut they had the old lady say it. Personally, I think the final cut was much better composed, but I liked Lyude and Kalas' voices better in this version. Either way, it was a great game :]

  • i think taht in the english version, Melodia said that "now be what you always dreamed to be!"

at least it sounded like her

  • okey i dont get it since i dont own gamecube and baten kaitos

so, the subtitle still JPN but the voices ENG? i already seen the ENG opening and i think the voice actor seem better in JPN version

  • The Japanese still had the English voice opening...but for some reason, they got different voice actors. IMO, this is much better. Baten Kaitos' voice acting was horrible and so over-the-top...

Origins did much better with the hiring of voice actors...they got Crispin Fuckin' Freeman! (Heughes)

  • Lyude, and the old lady's voices were better than the actual game. However, I still prefer everyone else that made the final cut, even if it's only a marginal difference.

  • I actually like the old lady's voice better in the final cut. Lyude, you can't get any worse than the final cut version so... this one was pretty damn good though.

The Queen sounds horrible and the Emperor sounds extremely lame. IMHO in this version and far better in the final cut. Overall I think the newer VA were better. Mizuti sounds awful, just awful here. I love how Mizuti sounds in the real game.

Kind of like Gibari's voice a bit more. Less over the top.

  • These guys sound like they're just doing a table read, not really acting.

  • Man, Lyude's in this is much better than the one on the game. "It's unthinkable, to act against the empire!!!!!" is not a question. Asid from Mizuti and Geldoblame, I wish that these guys did the voices for the game.

Did anyone else notice/hate the metalic/macine-like sound of the voices when they spoke for cutscenes?

  • I noticed. I hated!

And I agree with you; these sond much better than those in the final game!

  • you could fix the problem by switching sound. it believe it was to mono..though it might have been to surround. not sure

  • these sound more sadistic then the final cut

  • These are terrible. The final voice actors were better.

  • Definitely. Most notably Kalas. His final voice fit him so much better than this one.

  • I think the voices are better than they are in the actual game! Kalas sounded good already, but Xelha and Lyude sound better here.

  • who cares! lol that sounds so funny

  • my god... compared to the american version, these voices suck.. kalas is too apathetic, xhela is too manly, geldoblame is too girly, it's all crapped up... fricken sweet game though!!!

  • Actually, I think this is the American version and the other version is the English one(don't know what else to call it)

  • what about european xD?

  • Ah O.O ...

When I was typing that, I seem to have forgotten European for some reason XD
