  • I miss the 50s

  • Whenever I hear this, I imagine myself riding an old Schwinn bike down a black and white neighborhood. There are classic cars going down the road, people smiling and waving at eachother, backyard BBQs...now if I can just get this time machine to work...

  • fuck i wish i was born in this era!

  • @GizmoRicketts If you were, you probably would have said "Golly" instead of "f---"...

  • i hate covers, and if you make a cover, you better make sure it's better then the original. So i say, fuck The Crew Cuts for trying to rip off The Chords. The original by The Chords is WAY BETTER.

  • @01minimitch the cars one is by the chords and me.

  • esta versión es la más conocida, no le veo ningún racismo, espero que la popularidad de esta versión no sea considerada racismo

  • Like if you first heard this song off of the film cars

  • finaly i found it

  • stfu MaddinDS this one is much better than the chords' version

  • I have solid proof this is a copy of the chords. In 1950 I was in that studio with A SAXOPHONE AND THE GUYS as we wrote shboom. Thr guys are the chords.

  • Destroy all humans.

  • Destroy all humans.

  • The chords played it better.

  • Die Antwoord Max Normal TV brought me here. this is cool music

  • I think it would be sick to live in 50's America, driving down some sunny avenue in California in a red and chrome Cadillac Eldorado, listening to this...

  • I'm not saying this because of anything racial, but this version "pales" in comparison to the original by The Chords.

  • DESTROY ALL HUMANS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love it

  • dogz you aren't old fashioned. This music connects, at least in me, to a very pure source. It just allows your heart to beat with the rhythm and everything else to just play along. That is the soul of it, and of you. That is very new fashioned.

  • Tums up if Mafia bought your fucken ass he'e.

  • @TheTrueGamble no the the bigging of the song it in fallout lol

  • @TheTrueGamble Mafia and Cars ;)

  • Esta canción estaba de moda cuando nací. Me gusta !!!

  • CANADA BITCHES!

  • I like this over the 'original' one.

  • RIP Ben Gazzara

  • Chico, CA. Hot Summer nights, Bidwell Park and cruisin Toot and Tell 'em Drive in. MMMMMMMMMMMMM!

  • These lyrics are lovely.

  • Dolphin Tale XP

  • video games? I first heard this song in the background in the movie "Clue" hehe

  • Horrible? I think not.

  • CARS, MAFIA II, DESTROY ALL HUMANS :D

  • I grew up listening to this version... I have listened to 'The Chords' Verison and in my opinion this one is better... We all have different opinions and this is mine!

  • Lol I got this song from destroy all humans when i was 9 from the teenagers from outerspace movie.I love this song...Still Sinatra and Deano are better but the 50's would be like living in a whole different universe of patriotism fear and stability in one country! beutiful time.

  • Mafia II showed us some real music, don't let this music get lost in time

  • I love the crew cuts!! but the chords are nice aswell!! You gotta love the crew cuts!! However the Chords shouldn't be underestimated aswell!! nonetheless...SHUT UUUUP!! WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STUPID OPINIONS!!

  • Mafia 2 and Destroy all humans brought me here. Love this song!

  • I just searched "The Crew" Chill out xD

  • I like how they put the lyrics in the description... As if they'd be hard to guess.

  • the Chords are better at this song

  • I love this song

  • me: Hu a dislike?

guy who dised: humm theres a knock at my door

me: *SMACK* what the hell man!

  • #1 song the day my pops was born. Lucky SOB.

  • Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever make a exellent one !!!

  • Cars

  • fuck them its all about The Chords!

  • Back in those days good white parents didn't want their precious little darlings listening to "black music" and the radio stations would hardly play it. Consequently, we were subjected to cover versions that didn't even come close to the fine sounds of the originals. There were some exceptions (Coasters for one) that did make it through but most didn't. Some had two going at the same time like Pat Boone's cover of Little Richard. I didn't know of the Moonglows until I went into the Navy 1960.

  • @buckbeach It's amazing how many covers of "race music" were made through the rock and roll era. I just learned a few months ago that Led Zep's No Bodys Fault But Mine was a cover of a black dude in the 1920's, Blind Willie Johnson,. I grew up in the 1970's and Im sure he was credited on the album but when you are banging your head to the music who looks? Lol. You Tube does all these forgotten musicians a service by showing their music on line.

  • Mafia II

  • @hOOk3rChamizo thanks to that game my ears have been opened up to soo much of this beautiful music thank you Mafia 2

  • gangster shit

  • Thumbs up if the movie "Cry Baby" brought you here.

  • both versions r good - each in their own way

  • I like this version better than The Chords' version.

  • CREW CUTS!

Wow! I grew up with their music and this song was "a 50's Favorite."

It still sounds great to me!!

  • reggae verson also fom the 80s by "papa ruben- she boom"

  • Nice, Nice Not Bad, I Like that!!

  • I used to have this version on a 78RPM Disc, I grew up thinking THIS was the original. I loved it then, and still love it now. The Chords is good also.

  • Mafia 2 FTW

  • Classic

  • I love the Crew Cuts. I grew up in that time span and the music was superb. Don't knock good music that let people in on the feelings of their hearts. It beats the so called stuff out there today. That isn't music.

  • Both versions are pretty great. No preference! :)

  • Great number!!! Chords' version is great as well!!

  • The fact that the Crew Cuts took this song to number 1 rather than the Chords probably says more about the state of the races in 1954 than the song.

  • @hclaut oh gimmie a break

  • I thought this version was alright. Thanks for posting.

  • This version of this song was number one when I was born.

    Yeah, I'm old.

    XD

  • @doggzma lol same for my father i'm here because he found that with that facebook app hehe

  • @doggzma Just don't tell my wife, she was born in '54 too.

  • @doggzma - me too. and old also.

  • @doggzma I'm 16 and I think of this as "from my own era". (I'm way too old fasioned.)

  • @JeffHendrie Even though age may take a toll on the body, it is still just a state of mind.

    =o)

  • @doggzma

Yeah, I'm older! I was 6 Years old and I heard it on BFN (British Forces Network, today BFBS - British Forces Broardcasting Service) in Germany! Greatings!

  • this was on destroy all humans :P mint game :P

  • Can't believe these guys graduated from my school along with The Four Lads, and Matt Dusk.

  • @DCwarrior3 Was that school St. Michael's College, Toronto, Canada?

  • @watchful38 Close. It's St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto.

  • This version can't TOUCH The Chords version.

  • Actually, I like the Crew Cuts rendition better. When it was first introduced to be way back in 1974 (20 years after it was first recorded), it was my theme song during Middle School and High School.

  • All I think about is the movie "Clue." Hilarious!

  • @SPLive12 hahaha me too, I love that movie watch it all the time :)

  • I always say the original is better, this case yes I think the original is better, however I still like this version also. Still it's not as good as the original.

Same thing for most songs with a cover

Here comes the sun The Beatles nail all the covers

Stupid Cupid Connie Francis nails Mandy Moore

and even my favorite latin songs like

A Quien Le Importa Alaska y Dinarama nails thalia.

    or even

You spin me right round Dead or Alive nails thalia and Flo Rida.

  • This version is so much better than the Chord's version, in my opinion. Everyone laughs at me when they are going through my iPod cause this is the only type of music on it, I am not even joking.

  • The Chords version is better because of what happens on theirs at 1:53 and what The Crew Cuts do at 1:53

  • @dieselrecords well, they added some instrumental, but Chords's bass voice killed the loveliness of the song. but both are better than bieber.

  • I love this song. I've heard the Chords version, but this one is better.

  • how is it possible that i can like this song as well as biggie smalls

  • @MrPROJECTBLUE Good Music is Good Music

  • i love this song! I heard it on roadhouse and man is it ever catchy!

  • very cool old song =)

  • Boy does this take me back

  • I use this for my new film...

  • The Chords are better in my opinion, although this version is still good I still like The Chords better

  • Mafia 2 anyone???

  • @Flaaatt Cars AND Mafia II.

  • @thedoctorand i dont know what the first comment was about but the version they used in cars was from the cords

  • Worst remake this side of MIchael Bolton. Horrible.

  • @doowoppingchainsawer this is the original

  • @Flaaatt Reeeeeesearch. Before posting. Do it.

  • @Flaaatt No it isn't. The Chords recorded it in March 1954 and the Crew Cuts recorded it in September 1954.

  • Old age brought me here.

  • lol i love what you wrote in the description :) the Chords version is MUCH better :)

no hate mail, please and thanks.

    I prefer this version.

  • luv this song 90s

  • is it bad when i like this music better than the crap nowadays?

  • @CHEATINGPLACE No, that means you have good taste in music. Congratulations, you are way more sophisticated then 98% of the country....

  • @rightwingkid92 thanks, this makes my day

  • @CHEATINGPLACE Awesome! Knowing that there are other people out there aside from myself that like good music makes my day! :D

  • Jalalalalalala :DDD

  • This song gets stuck in your head

  • Lol I read the band name screw nuts at first

Then I thought oh wait, thats not right

    Crew Cuts o.o ohhh -facepalm-

  • The first time I heard this song was on the movie "Clue".

  • @Jman4Life45 its on the movie (cars) as well

  • excelente, magnifica

  • What's so "horrible" about this clip? I really like it. Now to hear The Chords.

  • Memories!!! Wow! Brings me to the ol' days

  • politics here? the 50's had the best music, but the 80's were the best economy and our greatest president Ronald Reagan! today the democratic party left Jefferson and embraces Stalin,Lenin and Marx.liberals are liars.i would rather talk music.this is good sh-boom by the crew-cuts.how can it be horrible if it was a number 1 hit.i like it better by the chords.the best cover record has to be little darlin by the diamonds.it is far superior to the gladiolas version.most can agree on that i think.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG.

    XD

  • hey ben you left out a couple things that made it what it was, the best time for the working man ever, a top rate of 90% tax for the top 5%incomes, and over 65% of the jobs were union jobs, It's gone and it's never coming back. There is a cure, if people would vote for their own best interests, we'd have the government we need, but the right gets the single issue voters to come over to their side, and then they stick it in their ass, and we all pay the price.

  • @mn1fatcat there goes another Dem, trying to include politics in everything. Get with the times, the Right is fighting daily to get jobs back in this country. Both sides pimped our country to the world and we (the tax payers) get the honor of paying the world to screw us. The Left quit their old style USA first concepts YEARS ago, join the side you sound like you really belong to, join the Right.

  • Man I really want to go to the 50's. I mean what happened? Today's style is just wrong.

  • @russiantoughguy Agreed.

  • Thumbs up if you prefer The Chords' version.

  • only if i could go back to the 50's...

i would be sitting in a bar, with a polka-dot skirted brunnet named Gloria, come home, and Mom says "Honey, did you eat, meat loafs in the ice box"

Those were the day. Not now with there fucking politics and wars. I would give up everything, all the electronics, movies, cars, just for a week in the 50's. SOMEBODY INVENT THE FUCKING TIME MACHINE ALREADY!!!!!!

  • @ben3362 Your in the 1950's Our 48 Star Flag. President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles seeks peace in the Middle East. Congressional leaders, William Knowland, Lyndon Johnson,Sam Rayburn and Joseph Martin care about the Nation over politics. Television is Black & White. 97% Employment. One Man's salary can provide for his family of 4. NO EPA, Civil, Womens or Gay Rights. The only threat the Soviet Union & Red China. US troops occupy Germany, Japan and South Korea.

  • @ben3362 On it. DeLeroan or something more modern?

  • Who would believe this was America? The glorious days that is.

  • The Chords version is more "gutbucket" and this one has a studio orchestra track. But in terms of "soul," the Crew Cuts version isn't all that different-sounding from some race-music recordings of the late 40s which had orchestras; it's a case of the white public buying records in 1955, with a white group that they wouldn't have bought in 1950, with a black group; it takes that long, sometimes, for something to become mainstream.

  • My sister always said that his voice reminded her of a freshly-paved road.

  • This was the orginal song, this was in the 50s and the Chords was in the 80s and this one is better anyway.

  • @SuperWhydidyou hey dumb ass , the chords version was first...the crew cuts covered the song to sell to the white public

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable No this song came out in the early 50s, the Chords version came out 30 years later

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable Use wikipedia

  • @SuperWhydidyou are you on crack? The chords version was the original, this one (crewcuts) was a cover simply because they wanted to market it to white people.

  • @billyjohnson777 Look, if you look up the chords it would have songs in the 80s, if you look up the crew cuts, they would have songs in the 50s. For example this song was in Mafia 2, and that took place in the late forties and fifties. This was the original and the Chords are the cover.

  • @SuperWhydidyou um no, the chords you are thinking about are the british pop band from the 80's, not the chords who were an african american group in the 50's who sang sh,boom about 4 years before this cover.

  • @billyjohnson777 Oh hahaha I thought you were talking about the british one, sorry. My mistake.

  • @SuperWhydidyou np, we all make mistakes

  • @billyjohnson777 feel free to play the race card, but I actually prefer this version to the chords.

  • Rate up if The Crew Cuts are better than the chords!

  • I feel that the transition from earlier forms of popular music to early rock-and-roll can be nicely detected in this song.

  • @PIENIEKHENIEK przepraszam ale ja nie dodalem tego komentarza sry za brata

  • My impeccable taste in music brought me here.

  • like my russian?

  • @gotitans456 Родина любит ваш плавной речи

  • @ThivN1 następny polaczek.... oh kiedy wy się nauczycie, że nie można robić nam siary poza granicami

    kraju...

  • I think The Crew cuts sing this song better than The Chords if you ask me.

  • @Gamefan113 I totally agree with you. I'm 24 and in a Doo Wop group with three other guys in their 20's and this version is so much better than The Chords.

  • wow... mafia 2 makes it sound awesome... but this is just awful...

  • @RobloxUEF Nothing sounds better than the oldies! Better than that new junk you teen listen too!

  • @PristineChristineCar i dont listen to that new junk, its horrible! but the quality of sound on here makes it awful.

  • @RobloxUEF i thought you said it was horrible.

  • This song should be in Fallout 4 :D

  • Favorite version of this song. A lot catchier.
