Thank you so much for this!! Also to alternet and other sites that have been posting excerpts from this talk.
The point Chomsky made relating US privatization of higher ed, (outlandish inflation of tuition, students leaving school with massive debt) and the IMF was a frightening if potent one. I am sharing this with my students.
He does deserve a young (around 40-60) girlfriend, he should get one. His wife unfortunately died, he is still carrying on, and to be honest i dont really know how he does it. I assume he loves his work and knows how important it is and that makes him carry on, but if he had a (comparatively) young girlfriend i would feel less worried about him.
The last voice of HUMAN - SANITY in the corrupted political madness and Hippocratic-Greedy INSANITY as reality for lost and headless.
How long will this wise-voice of deep-logical analyze be minimized and silenced by demagogues in your life ???? Sorry not in mine.!!! I am Always respectful to you beautiful mind.Mr.Chmsky
Thanks for the vidoes! I love how Chomsky's 'brief' answers to questions always take 10mins. I'd love to hear the long version of some of them. It really shows the depth of the mans mind & hes yearning to get the info out there.
Excellent talk. As a British sort-of-socialist I am devastated that my daughter will be in £40,000 debt if she goes to any good University. Freedom of thought and equality of education for all and being debt free are very important for our youth. But re, the Arts and Humanities Council being expected to follow Government policy: once a government is democratically elected, is government policy political intervention or just the way the government have decided how their money should be spent?
@Minnowonsay It's about time Europeans started paying the same kind of tuition we do here in the US, for far too long they've had it easy with free college, big government giving them health care, and unions giving a 35 hour workweek. You know in countries like France they have this thing called "paid vacation". That's where you don't go to work but still get paid. That's SICK! Thank god we abolished unions and the 40 hour work week here in the US.
@majordbag2 Fortunately for Europe it's only the U.K. that has really high tuition, other European countries have much lower tuition (in some cases it's free). Germany and France for example have sizable population to UK yet tuition is much cheaper. Sadly I dont speak German or French, I'm Canadian (and tuition at McGill is costing me around $7400/year).
Are you insane or what? Are you saying that it's better a country where tuitions are high and where you work more hours and where workers are not protected by unions? Moreover what's funny is that US where welfare to support people in need is very scarce is about to fail and countries like france germany and above all scandinavian countries are prosperous and much more right in sharing wealth. Wake up! You're living in a country with an oligarchy of bankers n corporations sucking your blood
I'm sorry to say this, but Chomsky's approach to linguistics is not universally accepted, many disagree, she makes it look as if there was no debate among linguists anymore.
It's an honor to have him speak at my school.

Somebody has to decide how they spend it. It CAN be through political intervention though. Doesn't somebody have to make things better?

Having "him" as a professor would be like a dream come true. I mean i have no icons.. But Mr Chomsky is the very closest to an icon
As a linguist, as a person and a political analyst!
