  • you are kidding me, it's blocked......

  • @ade425mxy

Yes, Warner Home Video blocked it. But it sounds great if you click the link!

  • Mickey Rooney actually played piano in this film.

  • @4205lr

No, he didn't - at least not in this number. Read my notes beneath the clip.

  • @boink345 Apologies. He played on the "I got Rhythm" piece.

  • I believe Moe Purtill was miming to the tracks already recorded by Buddy Rich who joined the Military before the filming was done.

  • @4205lr According to Mel Torme on his biography of Buddy Rich, he did. he made a special comment about how talented Rooney was.

  • Does anyone know my dad, Jimmy "Red" Borland, trumpet, (and vocalist in Stan Kenton's Pastels) ???

  • Hey.. Thanks for your message. I'm not quite old enough to know all the musicians, however I do know some of them. By the way, Larry Brooks was my Step-father. CHIP

  • Your audio track is great! Your listing of the trumpet section is wrong. Charley Spivak is not there. The short trumpet player in the middle is Larry Brooks. Thank you for putting this in Youtube.

  • Enjoyed the clip! The solo trumpets are Ziggy Elman and Chuck Peterson. The clarinet soloist is Heinie Beau. The tenor sax soloist is Don Lodice. Buddy Rich was in the band during this operiod. Can't help with the rest. By the way Moe Zudekoff changed his name to Buddy Morrow.

  • @5gramercy The drummer in the video is Moe Purtill....that is a fact.

  • This cersion was done for the MGM 1943's movie musical "Girl Crazy" a great arrangment it really out the "S" in Swing. the wind section is awesome
