love this version the best of all heard em all like the way bob presented this song during this concert an time at his best . an this song says it all . god bless bob
This is definitely Dylan. Bob always rearranged songs live, that's why I only own a handful of live recording cuz I find it disappointing. Its not like the band where they try to keep it original.
your the reason I'll be travelin on........this was soundtrac to best years of my freakin life.hitched to 80 johnny winter shows, 130 dead shows, muddy waters, the list goes on....I lived to teach my grandkids what great music is.......teach them folks...don't let rap define ANYTHING in this world...peace
@xDdoh no. rap is for the untrained ear, one that has no real concept of true musical tallent. rap is just loud vulgarity with a lousy beat, anybody with a windows media player could make. try playin a guitar and harmonica at once ;)
@FPAUTO I don't agree... I'm not talking about commercial shit that everyone hears on radio- I guess that's what you call rap and that is not rap for me.
@xDdoh Rap used to mean something completely different, didn't it? I refer here to Pete Seeger with his "English Is Crazy," saying "When I wind up my watch I start it, and when I wind up this rap I end it." But then came the cRap everyone thought they could do, and the more people tried to do it the worse it got.
@FPAUTO you're very uneducated on the world of hip hop and mixing music. hip hop is poetry put to music, go back and listen to hip hop from the early 90s or mid 80s to know what I'm talking about but PLEASE don't compare the shit you hear today to the classics. PS i love dylan
@ikoiko2631 how close minded of you. music is the manifestation of emotion. how can you say you know great music? you meant to say you know great music as long as it is YOUR music.
i dedicate this beaut to my little red rooster my twin soul flame, until the time is right again, remember all is going as planned though it may not seem that way at times, glad to make the connect, that in itself is a miracle, hey maybe next time it will be forever and will be a bit more finite..
@kimbotube59 this isn't a cover, its from the before the flood live album...its obviously bob, just listen to the harmonica playing...of course his voice sounds different to how it sounds on the record theres more than a ten year gap between this recording and the album (you should hear how he sings it now)
Yes, this is from Before the Flood, a live concert album featuring Bob Dylan and The Band. But this segment of the concert was Dylan solo and acoustic. You don’t hear The Band on this cut. However, it is a great album.
I think this work by Dylan is exceptional because he unleashes his voice, which, obviously, he has plenty of. People complain when he uses the high thin register, but obviously it's a choice, because here we have what Eddie Vedder basically copies, not that he isn't wonderful in his own right.
@SeanLawlorNelson It's no cover, it's on the album "Before the Flood," which I have - also, I was at the Oakland Coliseum in 1973 and saw him do this song in the acoustic set of the show. At the time I didn't care for the 'jazzed-up' versions of the songs he and The Band did, but then who am I to say. He's the artist and eh's made good choices. Surely a genius!
his harmonica playing is alot better than when he did the original recording... but the singing is better on the original... either way bob dylan is awesome.
This concert tour has something different about it. Dylan just let a part of his voice loose that had never been there before, but was only hinted at in Nashville Skyline. Perhaps it was the accident, the hiatus from performing, but something caused him to stop being a performance artist on this tour and to just be a singer. It sounds like he had just had a lesson from Johnny Cash and then walked on the stage and sang. Amazing.
@aduratovic7 Of course nobody will ever be like Bob Dylan and that is a good thing!! But there are some really amazing bands out there today. You need to just find them, indie bands are getting really good now. Most of them derive there influence from Dylan, The Beatles, and other great bands. They are the face of music today. Anything pop is dead. That is a direct fault of the 80's and late 70's.
Don't Think Twice, It's All Right sounds a bit like Simple Song of Freedom (Tim Hardin) which followed DTTIAR. The first few measures of both seem close in melody. The tempo of this Dylan song may vary from a given performance or cover, but the studio version is closer to the tempo of SSOF. Nevertheless, don't think twice: folk songs are often of a close or identical melodic cloth. That's all folks: a thread of common unity...
18, LA, US Gov experimental mescaline, scalped $75 tickets, loge seats looking at Bobby Z's piano, 2-13-74 LA Forum presents Bob Dylan and the Band....Priceless
@MyMoppet52 Really? I don't suppose you saw him in the 80s? I heard that he had some pretty hard times with the bottle and such then. I saw him back in '05, and he seemed to be in darn good form. You a big Bobhead too or no?
@hanshotfirst1138 I love Bob Dylan. I saw him in the early 80's I am guessing. He'd just gotten "saved" & written You have to Serve Somebody. He was in white sparkle clothes & just sang all new stuff. It wasn't what I consider 'Bob Dylan' for the price we had to pay. Saw him in early 90's after he won his grammy. He wasn't well or was trashed. I saw him with my daughter on the tour w/ Willie Nelson. We thought he had had a stroke & the lead singer was carrying him. They sounded alike. Bummer.
I hear you. But just remember that regret is the most usless emotion. It makes you live in yesterday, robs you of today and won't allow you to have tommorrow.
Life goes on for all of us and we have to live it as honorably and as best we can.
@woostergino I use to tell my buds. "Dude, it's Dylan. You can get wasted tomorrow." I guess your buds dropped the ball on ya. Sorry you miss it, man. It was freaking awesome. I'm going tonight in Bangor Maine. Dude's 70 and I'm 56. It should be quite a show.
