  • hello

  • The phrase "think for yourself" doesn't mean that you should believe anything you want. Children should be taught to think LOGICALLY for themselves. We should use REASON when making decisions. People should be taught how to think, not what to think.

Do we stand upon the shoulders of giants? Yes. But independent, free-thinking minds progress humanity. Sometimes the social outcasts, the brilliant minds that are misunderstood and under-appreicated during their time, make a big difference.

  • Thank you for your response. I understand the concept behind what you are trying to convey; namely, that people "ought" to use the laws of logic and reason in order to come to cogent conclusions. And, though you disagree, there are countless of brilliant Christian thinkers (though you may think that is an oxymoron) who have done precisely that and come to opposite conclusions to yours. I guess we have to agree to disagree, don't you think?

  • AllSaintsReformed : Christian thinkers, like moslem thinkers and all others religious philosophers must bo looked at with suspicion of bias. Their mind is influenced by their dogma.

  • Your "absurd" questions (the 2nd and 3rd) really had nothing to do with the origninal issue: that Christianity (and all religions that I know of) require ignorance of its followers. Its a necessity when you want people to believe false claims supported by zero evidence.

You're just evading the issue. I said that Christians are described as sheep and a flock and I supported my claim. People shouldn't follow dogma. They should THINK critically for themselves.

  • "I've yet to come across being "ordered to be like little children and sheep" or to "be naive and destroy [my] reason." You must be among the majority of Xians who don't read the bible.

"Maybe you are aware of some inside information I have not been privy to" Yeah, I've read the bible.

"how is belief evidenced in your opinion?" I have no idea what you mean here.

What "worldview" are you talking about?

  • 1. I must've missed something in my reading. Would you mind directing me to specific biblical texts that state we are ordered to be like little children and sheep?

    2. I am interested in finding out how anything can be known. What methods can we use to come to the truth?

    3. I am interested in finding out what worldview out there makes sense out of reality, ethics, logic, etc.

    Thanks.

  • You've never heard of the relationship between God/Jesus and his followers described as the shepherd and flock? "Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." (Psalm 100:3) There are many others.

As far as your absurd question regarding how we gain knowledge, we use our five senses. We use common sense, logic, observation and science. We use our BRAINS. How else would you do it?

  • "Judeo-Christian" is merely a Zionist propaganda term.

Judaism is not the religion of the Old Testament.

Judaism is a religion based on the Babylonian Talmud.

  • very well made :)

  • This is just retarded

  • If you oppose retarded things, it is probably best to stay clear of YouTube.

  • Haha you make a very good point zaphod:)

  • Jesus said, "Love God (spirit of truth) with all your heart and love (treat equally) your neighbor as yourself. That statement is revolutionary in concept.

Jesus also said, "Let your answer be yes or no." The Devil is in the details and there are many shades of grey/gray..obviously, Jesus was a master of logic.

  • Why should we "love" an infantcidal, genocidal, raping, torturing maniac?

  • Are you saying infanticide genocide and rape are objectively wrong? If so, how could they be apart from an objective moral law thus implying a moral law giver? If you say God is ultimately unJUST you must imply an ultimate standards of what is JUST by which to say something is not JUST. But that ultimate standard of JUSTice is= to a theistic God.If they're not really objectively wrong then what are you saying? So where will you go next w your nonsensical argument?

  • Morality is a very complex issue and I don't claim to be an expert. All I'm saying is that human morality is not determined by an invisible man in the clouds. Morality is certainly not determined by Yahweh, the smiting, cursing, drowning, plague-sending, torturing deity of the bible. Your religion requires you to believe that those attrocities are "moral," but I choose to respect human life.

  • HA HA HA!! wow what an intellectual guy...

  • o'reilly is an irish piece of crap.

  • LOL Quality work mate! The real interview wasn't so much different... I think Mr. Bill was well aware that the longer he let Dawkins speak, the dumber Bill would look and therefore cut him off and broke him up at every oppurtunity. Still, all publicity is good publicity.

  • well isn't that just cute what you did w/ your video edit. that is adorable. keep up the adorable cute work......you bunch of cuties!!! your mommies will be proud.

  • Are you trying to make an intelligent argument?

  • sorry, I didn't even remember making a comment on this. Not even worth getting lured into the typical atheist twister match. You think yourself wise in your own eyes. You don't believe in God therefore it seems silly to keep hanging out on Christian forums just to bash. Don't you have better to do?

  • Does not having a belief in Allah, Zeus, Thor, Apollo, Yahweh, the Great Spirit or talking donkeys make me unwise?

  • Just because there are false gods doesn't mean that there is not a true God.

You know that deep down, when you see the complexity of how you were made, you know that you didn't come from a rock or from swamp oooz.

  • Ah, the "true" god...I guess that means YOUR god. Which god do you believe in? What evidence do you have for that god's existence?

Your "rock and swamp oooz" statement reveals your lack of understanding of basic science.

  • oh, I forgot you were there when life decided to come from non-life. I know the claims of evolution. I've seen the debates of people whose information you are borrowing.

  • No, you don't understand evolution. Evolution has nothing to say about the ORIGIN of life. That is a question for other fields of science.

  • Isn't there a book called the ORIGIN of Species? Didn't Darwin postulate that all life came from a single celled organism which he thought was a simple blob of gelatin?

  • Though some good things about Atheistm/Atheists though is that they have been a preventative to bad christian arguments and have showed a need for how christians are commanded to be intelligent (Love God with all your mind) and to have a ready rational defense for the faith which they claim to truly believe in contrast to any other view.

  • Christians are not commanded to be "intelligent." They're often ordered to be like little children and sheep. Christianity requires you to be naive and destroy your reason.

There is no rational defense for faith because faith is belief without evidence. No rational person believes things without evidence.

  • Yes please, somebody, do throw him in with Jesus, and lo, the tide comes up till the bubbles stop.

  • Very nice. In comparison with the full, original broadcast, you made O'Reilly come moderately close to sounding thoughtful and intelligent... I still can't understand, even after having seen the portion of the show with this 'interview' (fast forward all the way, baby), why Dawkins chose to be on there. He did seem properly amused, though, at what O'Reilly was gibbering at him about.

  • Nice. You pulled it off really well! The interview itself was so ridiculous to begin with...

  • Really nice edit! (It's begging for a well selected word from Dawkins to finish it off, though.)

  • I agree, if only O'Reilly had let him get a whole sentence out during the interview there might have been something to put in. Dawkins might as well have been strapped to a chair with his mouth duct-taped shut.

  • That is very true, in fact. Gagging with garbage - not a pretty sight.
