No they explane it not that well, i am kinda new in this stuff, I want you to make a nother one and show how you did it on youtube. a totorial all the process needed.
Man I need to make one of these. Though I figure a rail gun is easier. Since with a coil gun you can shoot yourself in the foot if the waveform isn't regulated.
Wow Thats a lot of firepower for 300J Caps. With such a low voltage/high RC-time you can only fire pretty long and "heavy" projectiles.
I switched from 9,4mF@300V to 2,4mF@600V to shoot at higher speeds dramaticly decreasing the amount of impulse. Did you measure/calculate any speeds because I'm realy curious about the effectness in %.
you should use a smaller projectile man and a cool design around it

thats a mans gun, I have seen hundreds of crappy coilguns online, but this is the first to be better (or even close) to my own!

I love it ,it is so cool!!!!!! I really like your coil gun!
can you tell me the specification of the SCR which you used.
contact me please!

can you make a real totorial that you show how to make it PLZ!!! i live youuuuuu

You can find many coilgun tutorials with google.

If you are new to electricity, you must learn the basics. The coilgun have a pretty complex math, and this is a hard work, to make a tutorial for it.
omegalab 2 years ago
@omegalab Really these are as simple as electric motors often found in RCs, Now an EMP... that's interesting.

haha that's cool.
please tell me how to make the coil and capcacitor charge !
rendygaul 2 years ago
You might want to consider a multi-stage one to ramp the velocit without dramatically overheating or needing too much more power.

what's a coil gun
eglesnest123 3 years ago
coil guns r like guns
but they use electromagnetic energy to fire
steel nails, bbs, and other metal stuff real fast.

The schematic has a little mistake, the variometer graphic is not right in this form. Variac was used, this is a name mistake.
omegalab 3 years ago
Mains+variac.

muy buen video, con este tipo de cosas quiza a los jovenes les incentive mas el estudio de la fisica... congratulations... very good!!!!

your projectile looks wayyyyy too big, for that power id use one only 3 or 4cm long....that thing looks almost 20 lol
big5824 3 years ago
This voltage/capacitance ratio needs big projectiles, like this in the video.

300j @ 0,3farad and 50v...lol!
very good!! ;)

can you please tel my how a coil gun works
Niels00Niels 3 years ago
Well, it is an electro magnet with impulse operation.

Sorry i have no information about the effectness. But i will make a new one with 960J (0,3F @ 80V, or 0,075F @ 160V)
